Description
AMGO 408-HP: the parking lift you can put a full-size truck under
The two letters at the end of the model number are the whole point. On AMGO's standard 8,000 lb parking lift the maximum underneath height is a little under six feet. On the 408-HP it is 82 15/16″ - which our own product overview rounds to 83″ - and the lift stands 96 5/8″ overall. That is the difference between storing a low car underneath and parking a full-height SUV or crew-cab pickup under it, which for most buyers is the entire reason to own a parking lift.
The second thing worth knowing: this lift is offered with a 1.0HP motor running on ordinary 110V/60Hz, as well as a 2.0HP unit on 220V/60Hz. A garage with no 220V circuit and no appetite for an electrician's invoice can still run it. It is slower on 110V, and the published cycle times are set out below.
Will It Fit?
Hold these against your own building before you order. Measuring is the buyer's responsibility, and a four-post that does not fit is an expensive thing to send back.
- Ceiling. The lift is 96 5/8″ tall. What decides the job is that plus the roof of whatever you park on top — measure the vehicle going up there, not the one underneath.
- Clearance underneath. 82 15/16″ maximum, the locks holding at 79 13/16″. Use the locking figure when you work out what parks below — the locks are where the lift rests.
- Floor length. 207 1/4″ overall including ramps — just over 207″ of bay to allow for. The crossbeams measure 166 7/8″ outside edge to outside edge.
- Floor width — confirm this one. Published figures differ: the specification sheet gives 102 1/2″ overall; the product overview gives 109 5/8 inches. Plan against the larger and confirm with us if your bay is tight. Width between the posts is 92 7/8″, which governs whether a door opens once the vehicle is up.
- Runways. 37″ between them, 74 3/8″ across the outside edges.
- Drive-through. 81 11/16″ between the carriages.
- Drive-on height — contested. 6 1/16″ minimum on the specification sheet; our overview says 6 1/8″; AMGO publishes lower than either. Low enough on any of the three for a normal car, but confirm before you buy this lift for a low one.
- Power. 1.0HP on 110V/60Hz, or 2.0HP on 220V/60Hz, on a dedicated circuit in place before the lift is stood up.
- Concrete. The slab thickness and strength the anchors require are in the installation manual. Read it before you order; if you do not know what your floor is, core it.
Lifting time: check the figure that matters to you
It is slower on 110V, and published figures for how much differ. The specification sheet quotes 98 seconds on 110V and 46 seconds on 220V; the product overview quotes 83 seconds and 31 seconds for the same two configurations; AMGO's current specification gives a single lifting time rather than a 110V/220V pair. Three sources, three readings, and the gaps are wider than rounding — so we do not put cycle speed forward as a reason to buy this lift. The shape of the decision is not in doubt, though: on a lift used to park a car once a day, cycle time matters far less than not having to rewire a garage.
Two further figures on this page differ from AMGO's current specification: the maker publishes a lighter gross weight than the pair shown below, and a lower minimum height — the drive-on clearance. Each reading is given in the tables against the source that publishes it, so you can see exactly what you are planning against.
Confirm the minimum height and the gross weight with us in writing before you commit to a low-clearance drive-on or book equipment to unload the crates. The first decides whether your car reaches the ramp; the second decides what has to be in the yard on delivery day.
A concealed lock control, released from one place
AMGO's safety lock control device is a patented concealed design with a manual single-point release. The mechanism is not exposed to the dust, grit and road salt a garage floor accumulates — what usually kills a lock linkage over a decade — and all four locks are freed from one position rather than one column at a time. On a lift whose job is to hold a vehicle up for weeks rather than minutes, that deserves more attention than the capacity figure.
Double-S columns and back-to-back installation
The columns use a double-S profile rather than a plain box section. Folding steel into more corners buys stiffness without buying thickness — the principle that makes a corrugated panel stiffer than a flat one — and on a parking lift that stiffness keeps the runways from working out of level over years of standing loaded.
The 408-HP also supports back-to-back installation, the feature nobody explains. Two lifts share a run of floor nose to nose instead of each needing its own clearance, so a deep garage holds four vehicles in the footprint of two. If that is the plan, tell us before you order — it changes the layout to measure for.
Perfect For
- Home garages storing a truck or SUV underneath - what the extra underneath height was designed for.
- Collectors doubling a deep garage, particularly back-to-back.
- Garages without 220V, thanks to the 110V motor option.
- Light service work - brakes, exhaust, tyres, undercarriage.
What is in the crate
- Four double-S columns and two non-slip platforms
- Foldable drive-in ramps, standard
- AMGO ETL certified power unit, standard rather than optional
- The patented concealed safety lock control device with manual single-point release
- Aero-standard cables and the hydraulic cylinder
- A pull rope, standard
Not supplied: anchors are specified in the manual, and the electrical circuit and slab work are yours. Drip trays, a caster kit or a rolling jack are worth discussing before you order.

Certification, stated plainly
The claim AMGO makes here is precise and worth reading precisely: the power unit is ETL certified and arrives that way as standard — a genuine third-party electrical safety certification covering the power unit. It is not a safety listing covering the complete lift, and the product data we hold does not claim one. For a home garage and most independent shops the distinction never comes up; it does for some insurance policies, fleet and municipal operations, and jurisdictions whose code names a specific listing. Find out what your insurer or inspector requires before you order.
Shipping and delivery
The 408-HP ships by freight truck within the lower 48, with the freight quoted live against your address at checkout. Four columns, two runways and a set of ramps make a long, heavy load, and getting it off the trailer is the receiver's job: a forklift with the capacity and reach for a runway crate, or a collection from the carrier's local terminal. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout.
Inspect the load before you sign. Sight along the runway edges for bends, check the ramps and column ends for crush damage, count the crates against the paperwork, and write what you find on the bill of lading with the driver still there. Photograph it too. Once you sign clean, the carrier holds proof that everything arrived intact.
Warranty
AMGO warrants the structural, hydraulic and electrical parts on separate terms; ask us for the current written terms before you buy if the detail matters. Our claims process is at mechanicsuperstore.com/pages/warranty-claims.
One warning applies to every hydraulic lift whoever built it. If something fails, do not take apart the power unit, a cylinder, a cable assembly or a lock mechanism before a claim has been opened — a disassembled component is treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover. Photograph the fault, take the serial number off the column, and call us first.
