AMGO BP-12: 12,000 lbs of two-post lift that stands 122 1/2″ tall

The reason to look at the BP-12 is its overall height of 122 1/2″ — just over ten feet, for a lift rated at 12,000 lbs. That is what a base-plate design buys you. With no overhead beam tying the columns together, the structure stops not far above the carriage travel, and a capacity normally needing a tall commercial bay fits a garage with an ordinary ceiling.

The second thing worth knowing: the distance between the columns is a decision you make at installation, not a number you inherit. The BP-12 sets up at either 118 1/8″ (3000 mm) or 123 1/2″ (3137 mm), and that choice changes both the vehicles it takes and the floor it needs.

What a base plate gives you, and what it costs

In a base-plate lift, the hydraulic and cable runs that synchronise the two columns cross the floor inside a plate you drive over, rather than through a beam over your head. Make that trade deliberately.

What you gain: a much lower structure — 122 1/2″ overall — no beam above the vehicle, and no overhead assembly to install or align.

What you give up: a completely clear floor. The plate is driven over every time, which matters for floor jacks, transmission jacks and anything else you roll across the bay. Neither design is better in the abstract; your ceiling and your floor decide it.

The lift is chain-driven, with aircraft-quality cable used for synchronisation, and it is held by a dual locking system with a single-point safety release that unlocks both columns at once. That reads like a convenience feature and is really a safety one — the alternative is walking around a loaded lift releasing one column, then the other.

Two column spacings, and how to choose between them

Set at 118 1/8″ (3000 mm) between the columns, the lift's overall width is 145 3/8″ and the drive-through clearance is listed on this page as 105 1/4″. Set at 123 1/2″ (3137 mm), overall width becomes 150 3/4″ and the drive-through clearance is listed as 110 5/8″. Both drive-through figures are disputed — see the note below.

The difference sounds like nothing until a wide-bodied pickup must be centred between the columns with its doors still openable. Take the wider setting for full-size trucks, the narrower one if floor width is tight and your work is mostly cars. Decide before installation — the columns are anchored to the slab.

Arms, pads and the parts that wear

The BP-12 carries four three-stage arms, which telescope from the pinch welds on a short car to the frame points on a long-wheelbase truck without swapping hardware. Automatic arm restraints lock each arm once the vehicle is set, so nothing swings out from under a load. Minimum pad height is listed on this page as 4 3/4″ (disputed — see below); it decides whether a low car can be driven over the arms at all, so it is worth confirming.

The carriages ride on self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene sliders and bronze bushings. The value is not the material name — a lubrication schedule that depends on somebody remembering gets skipped, and worn sliders show up as a judder. A detachable foot guard and tool tray keep the base of each column clear.

Will it fit?

Check these against your building before you order. Verifying the site is the buyer's responsibility, and it is where lift purchases come unstuck.

• Overall height: 122 1/2″. Measure to the lowest obstruction over the bay — lights, door track, heater — not the roof peak.
• Overall width: 145 3/8″ or 150 3/4″, by column spacing.
• Drive-through clearance: as listed on this page, 105 1/4″ or 110 5/8″ on the same basis (disputed — see below). Measure your widest vehicle including mirrors.
• Lifted height: 72 27/32″ on the pads, 81 27/32″ with extension adapters; lock heights 70 1/2″ and 79 1/2″.
• Clearance under the arms: 68″ at maximum rise.
• Minimum pad height: 4 3/4″ as listed on this page (disputed — see below).
• Slab: a two-post lift puts its whole load into two patches of concrete, and the base plate has to sit flat. The installation manual states the required thickness and strength. Get an old, cracked or unknown floor assessed before the lift ships.
• Power: a 2.0 HP, 220V single-phase unit. Confirm the supply with us before the electrician is booked.

Three numbers here that the maker publishes differently

AMGO's currently published specification for the BP-12 does not line up with the sheet this page is built from on three points.

• Drive-through clearance, at both column settings. The manufacturer publishes a narrower gap than the pair above, at both settings. If a wide-bodied truck is the reason you are buying, measure for that.
• Minimum pad height. The manufacturer publishes a lower minimum than ours — in the buyer's favour on paper, but still a figure two parties describe differently.
• Gross weight. The manufacturer publishes a heavier crate than our displayed figure, and the shipping weight we hold on file is lower again. The practical question is what you need on site to unload it.

Neither side is asserted; sheets drift apart over years of republication and we cannot settle it from here. Confirm the drive-through clearance in writing before you commit the column spacing — that spacing is anchored into the slab, and it is the one thing on this lift you cannot change afterwards.

Certification, and what it actually certifies

The BP-12 is CE approved and certified, and AMGO states it meets or exceeds European Standard EN-1493. Neither is a North American third-party listing: a CE marking is the manufacturer's own declaration of conformity against European directives, for a European market. It is not the same document as an independent third-party lift safety listing and does not stand in for one. For most private buyers that never comes up; for a few it decides the purchase, because some insurance policies, fleet operations and jurisdictions require a third-party listing by name. Shipping and delivery

The BP-12 moves as freight within the lower 48, and the rate is pulled from the carrier for your address at checkout rather than printed here — a number baked into copy goes stale.

Sort the unload out first. The columns come off a standard trailer deck with a forklift or not at all, and getting the freight to the ground is the receiver's responsibility. Terminal pickup hands that job to the carrier's own equipment, and AMGO collection points are listed further down this page. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, shown at checkout. Inspect with the driver on site: bent column ends, torn wrap, cut banding or a load that has clearly moved goes onto the bill of lading before your signature.

Warranty

AMGO covers this lift with five years on steel components, three years on hydraulic parts and two years on electrical components. One habit protects those terms: do not take apart a power unit, cylinder, valve, hose, chain or lock assembly before a claim is open. Photograph the fault, take the serial number from the column, and call us first.
