High-Density Rigid Filter Mat for Pond and Waterfall Filters

The Aquascape High Density Rigid Filter Mat is a coarse mechanical filtration medium that captures large solid particles in pond biofilters and waterfall filter boxes. High-density foam traps more material per pass than lower-density alternatives, making it the right choice as a first-stage mechanical filter in high-load ponds with heavy fish stocking or large debris inputs.

Coarser Filtration for High-Load First-Stage Use

In multi-stage filter setups, the high-density mat goes first in the flow path to capture the bulk of solid waste before water reaches finer biological or polishing media. Its rigid form holds shape under flow without collapsing against the filter housing walls, maintaining even water distribution across the filter chamber. Clean it by rinsing in pond water rather than tap water to preserve any beneficial bacteria that colonise it over time.

How to Use

Install in the filter housing's first-stage chamber, upstream of finer media. Rinse every 2 to 4 weeks in the season by removing the mat and hosing it down with pond water or a gentle spray (avoid tap water to preserve bacterial colonisation). Replace annually or when the mat compresses permanently and no longer springs back after cleaning.

Ideal for heavily stocked koi ponds, large water garden systems, and any pond filter setup where a coarse first-stage mechanical mat reduces the load on downstream biological media.
