The Aquascape Signature Series 400 Pond Skimmer Filter Mat is a factory-specification replacement filter pad for the Signature Series 400 skimmer. Positioned behind the debris basket in the skimmer water chamber, the filter mat provides mechanical filtration by capturing fine particles that pass through the debris basket before water reaches the pump. When the mat becomes saturated with debris and cannot be cleaned to acceptable flow, replacing it restores skimmer performance and reduces pump strain.

Second-Stage Mechanical Filtration in the Skimmer

The filter mat is the second barrier between surface debris and the pump. Fine particles, algae strings, and plant material that pass through the basket mesh collect in the filter mat over time. A heavily fouled mat restricts flow to the pump, reducing waterfall height and causing the pump to work harder at reduced output. Replacing the mat annually or when cleaning no longer restores adequate flow keeps the skimmer performing at its rated capacity.

How to Use

Open the skimmer lid and remove the debris basket. Lift the existing filter mat from the mat rack or frame inside the skimmer chamber. Insert the new mat into the rack with the correct orientation, following the existing mat position as a reference. Replace the debris basket and close the lid. Rinse the new mat in pond water before first use if the mat has a strong manufacturing odour. Clean the mat by hosing off accumulated debris every four to six weeks during active pond season.
