When a CC36 shows flickering, incorrect colours, or the LED fails to cycle through the full colour spectrum despite the transformer being functional, the driver is the most likely cause and the correct component to replace.
Driver vs. Transformer — Understanding the Difference
The transformer steps down mains voltage to 12V low voltage. The driver then conditions that 12V power into precise signals that control the red, green, and blue channels of the colour-changing LED. A failed driver often produces symptoms that look like an LED failure — flickering, colour shifting, or cycling stopping mid-sequence. Testing by swapping the driver is the next step after confirming the transformer output voltage is correct. This genuine OEM driver is the correct specification for the CC36 housing.
