The BF1900 FilterFalls provides a higher flow capacity and larger media volume than the BF1600, making it the appropriate waterfall filter for larger ponds. Its media kit is proportionally larger — the 19" × 17" format provides meaningfully more biological surface area than the BF1600 kit. This matters for ponds with higher fish loads, where the biological media must process a greater ammonia and nitrite input to maintain water quality. Fresh Matala media supports rapid recolonisation with beneficial bacteria after replacement, typically reaching stable nitrification within four to six weeks.

How to Use

Remove all old media from the BF1900 chamber. Install coarse media in the lower position, medium in the middle, fine closest to the waterfall weir. Return to service and allow 4–6 weeks for biological cycling. Clean media by removing each stage separately and rinsing with pond water — never use tap water or chlorinated water, which kills beneficial bacteria. Monitor ammonia and nitrite levels during the cycling period.
