Description

Atlas BP12000X Commercial-Grade Baseplate 2-Post Lift

Most 12,000 lb two-post lifts are overhead lifts: the cables and equalisation run through a beam across the top, and that beam sets a ceiling requirement most commercial garages simply do not have. The BP12000X is a baseplate lift. The hydraulics and equalisation run through a plate across the floor instead, and the whole structure stands 10' 2 1/2" overall — which is how a heavy-truck-capable lift ends up in a building that could not take an overhead one.

The second decision worth knowing about before you order is that the BP12000X can be installed at two different width settings. The wider setting takes broader trucks and trailers and makes driving between the columns realistic; the narrower one keeps the footprint tight. That choice is made at installation, so it is worth making deliberately.

Will It Fit?

Four things decide this, and all four are yours to verify before the lift ships.

  • Ceiling. Overall height is 10' 2 1/2". Allow working clearance above that for the vehicle you intend to raise, not just for the lift.
  • Floor width. 12' 5 3/8" at the narrow setting or 12' 10 1/2" at the wide one, outside to outside. Between the columns you get 9' 10 1/8" or 10' 3 1/2" of inside space, and a drive-through of 8' 7 5/8" or 9' 1".
  • Concrete. A minimum of 6" of concrete at a 3000 psi rating. This is not a guideline. A baseplate lift transfers its load into the slab through the anchors, and a thin or weak pour is the single most dangerous shortcut available on a lift installation.
  • Power. 220 volt single phase, with a 30 amp breaker recommended. This needs an electrician and a circuit, not an extension lead.

Confirming slab thickness and strength, ceiling clearance, floor width and the electrical supply is the customer's responsibility. If you do not know what your slab is, core it or ask someone who can tell you — every other number on this page is meaningless without it.

Oversized Columns, and What "Commercial Grade" Actually Refers To

The columns measure 8 3/4" x 14" in 6mm steel. That combination — a large section in genuinely thick wall — is where a lift's rigidity comes from, and it is the difference a technician feels rather than reads: a heavy vehicle at full height on an under-specified column produces flex and movement that undermines confidence long before it becomes a safety issue.

The carriages carry rubber guards to protect the vehicle's doors, and the whole structure is powder coated rather than wet painted, which in a working bay means brake fluid and solvent spills wipe off instead of soaking in.

Three-Stage Symmetric Arms and Single-Point Lock Release

All four arms are three-stage and symmetric, which is the arrangement that lets the same lift take a compact car and a long-wheelbase truck without swapping anything. Three stages means more telescopic reach in the same stowed length, so the pads reach inboard lifting points on a wide vehicle and still retract clear on a small one. Automatic arm restraints engage as the lift rises to stop an arm rotating out from under a vehicle.

Lock release is single-point: one control releases both columns together. On a lift with independent releases the operator walks around the vehicle and releases each side in turn, and any asymmetry there is a moment where the vehicle is supported unevenly. One control, both sides, is a genuine safety design decision rather than a convenience.

Lifting is by dual hydraulic chain-over cylinders. Chain-over drives the carriage through a chain running over a sheave on the cylinder, which halves the cylinder stroke needed for a given lift height — the reason a lift this tall can be this compact.

Perfect For

  • Commercial garages with limited ceiling height that need genuine 12,000 lb capacity — the exact case this lift exists for.
  • Truck and van service, using the wide width setting and the included truck adapter set.
  • Fleet workshops running mixed vehicles where one lift has to cover everything from a sedan to a box van.
  • Tyre, brake and general repair shops that want an open top for tall vehicles.

What's in the Box

  • Both columns, baseplate, carriages and three-stage symmetric arms
  • A free 12 piece truck adapter set — four each at 2", 3" and 6"
  • Mounting hardware
  • Rubber guards on the carriages

Not included: hydraulic oil. The lift takes 3 to 5 gallons of AW32 or AW46, and it does not ship with any — order it with the lift or have it on the shelf for installation day. Concrete anchors and the electrical work are also yours.

Certification, Stated Plainly

Atlas does not publish an independent third-party safety listing for the BP12000X, and we will not imply that it carries one. The distinction is worth having in front of you: under a third-party scheme an outside test laboratory validates the design and audits the manufacturing plant, and the lift carries that body's label. Without it, the lift is sold against the manufacturer's own specification and load rating.

For many private and independent shops that makes no difference to anything. It becomes decisive when an insurer, a fleet or municipal contract, or a local building or workplace code requires a listed lift by name — a requirement that cannot be satisfied after the fact. Check yours before you order. If a listing is a condition of your insurance, say so and we will show you what qualifies rather than sell you this one.

Shipping and Delivery

This ships by freight to the lower 48 states. The freight cost is quoted live at checkout against your actual address rather than pulled from a table, so what you see is what this crate costs to your door on the day you order.

Plan the unload before the truck arrives. The driver brings the shipment on a trailer and is not obliged to help get it off. A forklift, a dock, or a few people with an engine hoist and a plan all work; nothing works if the decision is made while the driver is standing there. Terminal pickup is the alternative — collect it yourself from the freight terminal with a truck and a trailer. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee.

Then inspect before you sign. Walk the crate with the driver, photograph anything crushed, punctured or shifted, and write what you found on the bill of lading before he leaves. A clean signature closes the door on a damage claim; a noted one keeps it open. It takes two minutes and it is the most valuable two minutes of the whole delivery.

Warranty

Atlas warrants the BP12000X for 5 years structural and 2 years hydraulic, parts only. The structural term covers the columns, carriages and arms; the hydraulic term covers the power unit, cylinders and associated components. Parts only means the replacement is supplied and installation labour is yours.

Two things protect a claim, and they cost nothing. First, install it properly: anchor into concrete that actually meets the 6" and 3000 psi requirement, and keep the paperwork. Damage traced to an inadequate slab is not a manufacturing defect and will not be covered. Second, do not disassemble anything you intend to claim on. Photograph the fault in place, stop using the lift, and call us before a cylinder or a lock assembly comes apart — a stripped component with the failure evidence gone is the most common reason a valid claim is refused.
