Description

Atlas Garage PRO8000 Portable 8,000 lb. 4-Post Car Lift

The thing that separates the Garage PRO8000 from most four-post lifts is that it never has to be bolted to your slab. It is a free-standing design, and the caster kit with polyurethane wheels is included in the box rather than sold as an accessory — so the lift is something you position, park a car on, and then push into a different corner of the garage when you need the floor back. It runs on an ordinary 110 volt circuit with a 30 amp breaker, which means no electrician and no new circuit to run.

Capacity is 8,000 lbs, on diamond-plated steel runways, with a single-point lock release and a lock-ladder double-lock safety system. It is bought for two jobs: storing one car above another, and giving a home mechanic somewhere to work that is not a jack and a pair of stands.

Who Atlas Says This Lift Is For — and Who It Is Not For

Better said before you buy than after. Atlas publishes the Garage PRO series as designed and built for homeowners and restoration shops, and states that these lifts are not designed for use in commercial repair shops where they would be raised and lowered several times a day. That is the manufacturer's own positioning, and it is why the word "Garage" is in the model name.

Marketing copy in circulation for the PRO8000 has described it more broadly, as suiting professional garages as readily as home users. Where the two differ, the manufacturer's statement about its own duty rating is the one to plan around. Buying for a bay that will cycle a lift many times a day? Ask us in writing first and we will point you at the commercial-duty models instead.

Will It Fit?

Four-post lifts are returned over ceiling height more than anything else. Measure first.

  • Column height 83" (6' 11"). Your ceiling has to clear the columns, then clear whatever sits on the runways at full rise.
  • Lifting height to the top of the runway 72". Add the height of the vehicle going up there, plus a hand's width — that is the ceiling stacking really needs.
  • Clearance under the runways 67". Your standing room underneath, and generous for a car parked overhead.
  • Overall width with the motor 115" (9' 7"). Measure wall to wall; the power unit sits proud on one side.
  • Overall length with the approach ramp 17' 2 3/4". The ramp alone is 37" (3' 1") and needs floor in front of it to line the car up straight.
  • Runway length 13' 9 3/4", maximum wheelbase 12' 9 1/2". Check your longest vehicle against the wheelbase figure, not the overall car length.
  • Power: 110 volt, 30 amp breaker required. Required, not recommended.

Measuring the room, the door, the ceiling and the route in is the customer's responsibility. We will talk it through first and that conversation costs nothing. A lift that will not stand up in the space you own is the one problem here that cannot be fixed after delivery.

Free-Standing and Portable: What That Actually Buys You

A bolted-down lift is a permanent alteration to a building — fine in a shop you own outright, a serious problem in a rented unit, on a slab you would rather not drill, or in a garage that has to go back to being a garage when the house sells. Free-standing means the PRO8000 stands on its own footprint, and with the included caster kit — polyurethane wheels, so they roll on a finished floor without marking it — you can move the whole lift and the storage bay it creates. It can also travel with you.

The Lock System, and Why Single-Point Release Matters

The PRO8000 uses a lock-ladder design with a double lock safety system: as the runways rise, mechanical locks engage at fixed positions and the vehicle's weight rests on steel rather than on hydraulic pressure. Hydraulics raise the lift; steel holds it.

The release is single-point. On lifts without it an operator walks each column to disengage its lock — slower, and the moment mistakes happen: one lock released, one not, and the platform tries to come down unevenly. One handle, all four locks. The runways are diamond plate, a grip surface first — you walk on it, often with oil on your boots.

Perfect For

  • The home garage double-parking — one car stored above another, the job this lift is built around.
  • Collectors and restoration work, where a car sits up for weeks and gets worked on rather than cycled.
  • Renters and anyone unwilling to drill the slab, because nothing here is anchored.
  • Detailing, storage and maintenance — fluids, exhaust, underbody, brakes.
  • Not a high-cycle commercial repair bay, per the manufacturer's own duty statement above.

  • Caster kit with polyurethane wheels
  • Steel approach ramps

Two figures are deliberately absent. Published sources give two different drive-through widths and two different clearance-between-columns figures for this lift, so neither is printed here rather than one being picked for you. If either is the dimension your garage turns on, ask and we will confirm it against the factory drawing in writing before you order.

Certification, Stated Plainly

Atlas publishes no independent third-party safety listing for the Garage PRO8000 and we will not imply one exists. The distinction worth understanding is between an outside laboratory that tests a lift design against a published standard and audits the factory building it, and a manufacturer stating conformity on its own authority. This lift is sold on the second basis.

For most home users that is not a live issue. It becomes one when somebody else is asked to accept the risk: an insurer, a landlord's lease conditions, a fleet contract, or a local jurisdiction with its own rules for vehicle lifts. If any apply to you, confirm the requirement before you buy — we would far rather answer the question than process a return.

Shipping and Delivery

Ships by freight carrier within the lower 48, quoted live at checkout against your actual destination rather than a national average. Atlas lists this part number as freight prepaid; where that and your checkout total appear to disagree, ask us in writing and we will settle it before the order goes through.

Freight is curbside: the truck arrives and getting the crate off is the buyer's job. The published shipping weight is 1,800 lbs, so arrange a forklift, a dock or terminal pickup first. Treat that as the manufacturer's figure and confirm it with us in writing before booking equipment — other weights for this model circulate as placeholders rather than measured crate weights, and hiring the wrong machine for the morning is an expensive mistake. Residential delivery carries a residential fee.

Inspect the crate before you sign. Photograph anything wrong, write the damage onto the bill of lading while the driver is standing there, and keep your copy. That note is the difference between a claim processed and a claim argued.

Warranty

The PRO8000 carries 2 years structural and 1 year hydraulic coverage, parts only — parts supplied, labour to fit them yours.

One note that saves warranty calls: Atlas publishes a separate cylinder bleeding procedure to be carried out immediately after installation, on top of the manual. Trapped air is the most common reason a brand-new four-post lift rises unevenly or creeps, and it is not a fault. Ask us for that document with your order and do it on day one.

If something does fail: leave it assembled. Photograph the fault in place, note what the lift was doing and what was on it, and call before anything is taken apart. A component that arrives already dismantled has lost the evidence the claim depends on.
