Description

Atlas Garage PRO8000EXT-L + RJ35 jacks: the long one, and the one truck it still will not take

The PRO8000EXT-L exists because of wheelbase. Set against the standard Garage PRO8000 it is 20 inches longer, 3 inches wider and 14 inches taller, and against the EXT it keeps the extra height while adding the length. What that buys is straightforward: the runways are long enough for almost every long-wheelbase pickup on the road, which is exactly the vehicle that will not sit properly on a standard hobbyist four-post lift.

Here is the part most listings leave out, and it is better read now than measured later. It will not take a dually. Not because of capacity — it is rated at 8,000 lbs — but because the dual rear wheels are simply too wide to pass between the column lock assemblies. That is a geometry problem, and no amount of careful driving solves it. If your truck has four rear tires, this is not the lift, and we would rather tell you on this page than sell you a freight shipment you have to send back.

Will It Fit?

A longer lift wants a longer garage, and measuring it is the buyer’s job. Check every one of these before ordering — the length figures in particular are where a bay that looked fine turns out not to be.

  • Floor length. Overall length including the approach ramp is 222″ (18′ 6″), of which the ramp itself is 37″ (3′ 1″). The runways are 185″ (15′ 5″) long, and the columns stand 14′ 8 1/2″ apart. Allow room to walk past the ends as well.
  • Maximum wheelbase. 173″ (14′ 5″). Measure your truck centre-of-front-wheel to centre-of-rear-wheel and compare it directly to this figure.
  • Ceiling. The columns are 8′ 2 1/2″ tall. Add the vehicle going on top, and check the garage door track and any opener before you commit — with a lift this tall the door mechanism is usually the first thing to conflict.
  • Working height. Lifting height at the top of the runway is 84″ (7′), with 6′ 6 1/2″ of clearance beneath the runways.
  • Floor width. 108″ (9′) overall without the motor, 9′ 8 1/2″ with it. Clearance between the columns is 98″ (8′ 2″), and drive-through, measured outside of tire to outside of tire, is 84″ (7′). That last number is the dually figure — check it against your rear track.
  • Track width. Runways sit 38″ (3′ 2″) apart, or 34″ (2′ 10″) between the rails, each 22″ wide including the rails and 18 3/4″ of actual driving surface, 4 1/2″ thick.
  • Power. 110V with a 30 amp breaker required.

Extra length is not free, and it is worth understanding the trade

Every inch of runway you add is an inch of garage you cannot use for anything else, and this is where four-post buying decisions usually go wrong. A shorter lift that will not hold your truck is useless; a longer lift that leaves you unable to walk round the front of it is a daily irritation you signed up for permanently.

So work it the other way round. Start from your vehicle’s wheelbase against the 173″ (14′ 5″) maximum, then check that the 222″ (18′ 6″) overall footprint leaves you the access you actually want, then look at the ceiling. If the wheelbase fits a shorter model in the range, take the shorter model — the extra length here is engineering aimed at a specific problem, not a general upgrade.

Free-standing, portable, and what the double lock does

Despite its size this is a free-standing lift on an included caster kit with polyurethane wheels, so it can be rolled aside rather than living permanently where it was assembled. The runways are diamond plated for grip, and the safety system is a lock ladder with double locks and a single-point release — one control drops all four corners together instead of leaving the lift to come down unevenly.

The working habit that follows is the same on every four-post lift and is worth repeating because it is the one that matters: raise past the height you want, then lower onto the locks and let the steel carry the load before anything goes underneath. Hydraulics do the lifting; the locks do the holding.

The two RJ35 jacks, and the adapters that come with them

A four-post lift supports a vehicle on its tires. That is what you want for storage and for anything under the floor, and it is exactly wrong the moment a wheel needs to come off. The two RJ35 sliding bridge jacks included here run along the runways and pick the vehicle up by its frame instead, so the wheels hang clear.

Each jack is rated at 3,500 lbs and is hand-pump operated — nothing to plumb, nothing to wire. Their width adjusts from 2′ 5 1/2″ to 5′ 4 3/4″, which is what lets them span these runways and others besides, and the arms adjust to reach the vehicle’s real lifting points rather than the nearest convenient bit of underbody. Each comes with a 4-piece truck adapter set, two each of 1.5″ and 5″ heights on a 1.5″ peg — on a pickup, that reach is often what makes the difference between a usable lifting point and a bent sill. Minimum height with the pad above the runway is 3 1/2″, maximum raised height 11″ bare or 17 1/4″ with adapters, and each jack weighs 350 lbs.

Perfect For

  • Pickup and SUV owners whose vehicle is too long for a standard hobbyist four-post lift.
  • Home garages doubling as workshops — the jacks make wheels-off work practical rather than theoretical.
  • Vehicle storage where the item parked on top is a full-size truck rather than a car.
  • Small commercial and fleet bays needing an extra lift for light service and staging.
  • Not for dually pickups — see the opening. Talk to us about alternatives before ordering.

What’s in the Box

  • Four plastic drip trays, four wheel stops and two rubber wheel chocks.
  • Two RJ35 sliding bridge jacks, each with its 4-piece truck adapter set.

Certification, stated honestly

Our data for this lift does not carry an independent North American lift safety listing, and we would rather put that on the page than leave it to be assumed. In a private garage it is rarely a factor. It becomes one where an insurer, a landlord or shared-premises agreement, or a local inspection regime requires equipment carrying a recognised third-party listing. If any of those apply, get the requirement in writing from whoever is imposing it, then talk to us before ordering rather than after the freight has moved.

Shipping and Delivery

The lift and both jacks travel as freight inside the lower 48 states. This is heavy, crated equipment: you will need a forklift or a loading dock at the delivery address, or you can collect from a warehouse instead, with locations listed further down this page. Residential delivery is available and carries a fee, quoted live at checkout rather than printed here because carrier pricing moves.

Inspect the shipment before signing. Count the crates against the paperwork, look for crush damage, punctures and shifted banding, and write anything you find onto the bill of lading while the driver is still in front of you. Once you have signed a clean receipt the carrier’s record says everything arrived intact, and a claim after that is a much harder case to make.

Warranty

The lift is covered for 2 years structural and 1 year hydraulic, parts only. Each RJ35 jack carries a 1 year parts-only warranty. Parts only means a covered component is supplied and the labour to fit it is not.

If something fails, get in touch before you start taking it apart. A stripped or half-rebuilt component is very hard to assess and disassembly is one of the most reliable ways to lose a claim that would otherwise have been honoured. Photograph it, leave it alone, and call us.
