Description

Atlas Platinum PTC300 Rim-Clamp Tire Changer with Assist Arm

On most swing-arm tire changers in this class, the bead-pressing arm is a separate line on the quote. On the PTC300 it is not. The left-hand bead pressing and bead lifting assist arm arrives in the crate, mounted to the same column, as standard equipment — and that single decision is the difference between a machine one technician can run all day and a machine that needs a second pair of hands every time a stiff-sidewall tire comes through the door.

Everything else is the configuration high-volume tire shops already know: swing arm, extra-large star-shaped turntable, air-operated jaws, electric drive, and a bead-inflation system built into the column. The Platinum line is Atlas's Italian-designed wheel-service range, and the PTC300 is sold as one complete machine rather than a base unit with a page of options.

Will It Fit — and What Do You Have to Supply?

Floor space is rarely what stops this machine going in. Two other things are.

  • Air. The jaws and the bead breaker are air-operated, and the machine expects a supply in the 120–145 PSI range. That compressor is not included and is not part of the shipment. If your shop air is marginal, sort that out before the changer arrives, not after.
  • Power. The turntable motor runs on 110 volt, so it takes an ordinary single-phase shop outlet. No three-phase service, no transformer, no electrician on the schedule.
  • Getting it off the truck. Shipping weight is 620 lbs. That is a forklift, a dock, or a very well-organised group of people.

Confirming your air supply, your outlet and the route from the truck to the spot on the floor is the customer's responsibility. We can tell you what the machine needs; only you can tell us what your building has.

What It Will and Will Not Clamp

A rim-clamp changer holds the wheel two ways, and the two ranges are different — which is why the spec sheet quotes both. Clamping on the outside of the rim, the jaws cover 10" to 24". Clamping from the inside — the method you use on wide, expensive or delicate alloy rims where you do not want a jaw touching the outer face — the range moves up to 12" to 26". The jaws take large plastic covers, which come with the machine.

The overall envelope is a 43" maximum tire diameter, with the bead breaker able to work a wheel up to 15" wide. Between them those two figures decide whether a given light-truck or oversize passenger tire is in scope. If most of what you turn is large-diameter alloy on low-profile rubber, the internal clamping range is the number to check first.

Why the Bead Breaker and the Turntable Are Specified the Way They Are

The bead breaker develops 6,924 lb of force through an anodized aluminium cylinder. The material choice is worth a sentence: a bead breaker cylinder spends its whole life cycling under load in a wet, salty, rubber-lubricant environment, and anodizing gives the bore a hard, corrosion-resistant surface instead of a painted one that eventually pits and starts chewing seals. It is the sort of component decision that shows up three winters later rather than on day one.

The turntable runs at 7 RPM. That sounds slow next to a hand tool and it is deliberate — a rim-clamp table trades speed for torque, because the moment that matters is the one where a hardened bead is being walked over the mount/demount head and a fast table simply tears rubber. Low speed with high torque is what lets an operator watch the bead and stop.

The Beadblaster, and Why It Is Built In

Seating a stiff or run-flat bead needs a large volume of air delivered instantly, and the usual workaround is a separate inflation tank parked next to the machine. The PTC300 has the Beadblaster system integrated into the column with the inflator box and gauge already fitted, so the tool is on the machine rather than across the bay. That removes the most common cause of a two-person tire job in a one-person shop.

Perfect For

  • Independent tire shops running mixed passenger and light-truck work, where the assist arm pays for itself in the first month of run-flats.
  • General repair shops adding tire service in-house instead of subcontracting it.
  • Dealership service departments that need consistent, rim-safe handling of alloy wheels under warranty.
  • Serious home and collector garages with real shop air, where damage-free mounting on expensive wheels matters more than throughput.

What's in the Box

Atlas ships this one fairly complete, which is the reason to compare total cost rather than headline price:

  • Left-hand bead pressing and bead lifting assist arm
  • Metal mount/demount head with replaceable plastic inserts, plus multiple spare inserts
  • Column-mounted inflator box with gauge
  • Filter / regulator / lubricator
  • Tire tool
  • Lube bucket with brush
  • Set of large plastic jaw covers
  • Plastic cover for the bead breaker shovel

Atlas stocks replacement parts and wear items for this range, which for a machine with consumable inserts and covers is the practical difference between a five-year machine and a ten-year one.

Certification, Stated Plainly

Atlas publishes no independent third-party safety listing for this machine, and we are not going to imply one exists. It is worth understanding what that does and does not mean. A third-party listing is a scheme in which an outside test laboratory audits both the design and the factory and the equipment then carries that body's label; a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is a different document produced by the maker itself. This machine is sold on the manufacturer's specification.

For most tire and general repair shops that has no practical consequence — wheel-service equipment is not usually covered by the listing schemes written for vehicle lifts. Where it can matter is with an insurer, a fleet or municipal contract, or a workplace inspector who asks for documentation on guarded rotating equipment and compressed-air systems. If you know you have a requirement like that, ask us before you order and we will get you whatever the manufacturer publishes, rather than you finding out after the crate is open.

Shipping and Delivery

This ships by freight to the lower 48 states. The freight cost is quoted live at checkout against your actual address rather than pulled from a table, so what you see is what this crate costs to your door on the day you order.

Plan the unload before the truck arrives. The driver brings the shipment on a trailer and is not obliged to help get it off. A forklift, a dock, or a few people with an engine hoist and a plan all work; nothing works if the decision is made while the driver is standing there. Terminal pickup is the alternative — collect it yourself from the freight terminal with a truck and a trailer. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee.

Then inspect before you sign. Walk the crate with the driver, photograph anything crushed, punctured or shifted, and write what you found on the bill of lading before he leaves. A clean signature closes the door on a damage claim; a noted one keeps it open. It takes two minutes and it is the most valuable two minutes of the whole delivery.

Warranty

The PTC300 carries a 2 year parts-only warranty. "Parts only" is a phrase worth reading properly before you buy: the manufacturer supplies the replacement component, and the labour to diagnose and fit it is yours. On a machine like this that is a fair trade — the wear items are inserts, covers and seals that a competent technician changes on the bench — but it is not the same as an on-site labour warranty and it should not be assumed to be.

One rule matters more than any other if you ever need to claim: do not disassemble the component first. Photograph the fault in place, note what the machine was doing when it happened, and call us before anything comes apart. A part that arrives stripped, with the failure evidence gone, is the most common reason a genuinely valid claim gets refused.
