Description

Buying the Atlas SLP9K: What It Needs, What It Comes With, and Who It Suits

The SLP9K is a 9,000 lb full-rise scissor lift that collapses to 4" off the floor and goes up to 78". Those two numbers are the whole argument for it: full working height in a bay that cannot take columns, and almost nothing there when it is down.

Before any of that matters, though, there are two things your shop has to have — and one of them catches people out. The SLP9K needs a 220 volt single-phase supply on a 30 amp breaker, and it needs compressed air. The air is not an option. The lock release is air-actuated, the external air supply is not included, and without it the lift does not operate. If your bay has power but no air line, that is a job to plan before delivery, not after.

Will it fit, and will it run?

Work through this before ordering. Every figure comes from the manufacturer specification for this model.

  • Ceiling. The lift raises to 78" (6' 6") at the top of the platforms. Your ceiling has to clear that plus the height of the tallest vehicle you intend to lift, plus whatever headroom you want to work in. Measure to the lowest obstruction in the bay — a light, a door track, a heater — not to the highest point of the roof.
  • Floor area. Overall length 82" (6' 10") and maximum overall width 82" (6' 10"). Each lifting platform is 59" x 24", and the approach ramps are 11" x 24".
  • Collapsed height. 4", which is what makes it drivable-over and what makes it disappear when the bay is needed for something else.
  • Platform spacing. Adjustable up to 31" between the platforms, which is what lets one lift handle full-frame, unibody and truck lifting points.
  • Power. 220 volt +/- 5% (209-231 volts), single phase, on a 30 amp breaker. Have an electrician confirm the circuit before the lift arrives.
  • Air. 90-120 PSI, supplied externally. Not included with the lift.
  • Oil. 3-5 gallons of AW32 or AW46 hydraulic oil, not included. Buy it with the lift so installation is not held up by a fluid run.
  • Concrete. The slab requirement is specified in the installation manual for this model, linked further down this page. Verifying that your floor meets it — thickness, strength and condition — is the buyer's responsibility, and it is the one part of a lift installation that cannot be delegated.

If you intend to flush-mount rather than surface-mount, settle the recess with your concrete contractor from the manual before anything is cut.

Why a scissor instead of a two-post or a four-post

Most shops arrive at a scissor lift by elimination. A two-post wants ceiling height and leaves two permanent columns in the bay; a four-post wants floor length and leaves runways in place whether or not a car is on them. Both are wrong in a bay with a low roof.

The SLP9K removes the vertical structure entirely: nothing to walk around, nothing to open a door into, no column to work between. Down at 4" it is a low obstruction you can drive across, and flush-mounted it is a flat floor you can approach from any angle. The open-centre design is the other half of it — a solid-deck drive-on gives you a platform and nothing else, while an open centre exposes the underbody between the platforms, which is where the work is.

The lock system and the descent stop

The SLP9K carries 10 locking positions with an air-actuated release, engaged and disengaged automatically as the lift rises and lowers. Ten positions means there is a lock close to whatever height you actually want to work at, so nobody is tempted to work on hydraulics alone because the nearest lock was out of reach. And a lock that has to be remembered is a lock that gets skipped on the last job of the day; this one does not ask.

There is also a safety lowering limit switch worth knowing about before you use the lift. As the platforms come down to within 10 ½ inches of the ground, the descent stops on its own; to go the rest of the way the Down button has to be released and pressed again. That is deliberate. The last few inches are where a foot, a creeper, an air hose or a dropped tool ends up, and the pause forces a look before the lift closes.

Platform spacing and narrow-framed vehicles

The adjustable distance between the platforms — up to 31" — is what makes this a general-purpose lift rather than a car-only one. Full-frame vehicles, unibody cars and trucks all present their lifting points at different spacings, and a fixed-width drive-on cannot serve all three.

One honest caveat, which Atlas states itself: if the intended use is heavier vehicles with narrow frames, pickups and SUVs in particular, the Atlas Scissor Lift Support Bar Kit is strongly recommended. Treat it as part of the purchase rather than an upsell to consider later.

Perfect For

  • Shops with a ceiling height problem that still need a vehicle at full working height rather than knee height.
  • Service areas where the floor has to stay clear — flush-mounted, the bay goes back to being a bay.
  • Tire, brake, exhaust and general underbody work, where the open centre earns its keep every day.
  • Home and enthusiast garages with 220 volt power, an air compressor already installed, and a low roof.

What is in the box

Included: heavy duty rubber lifting blocks, mounting hardware, the separate self-contained control panel with the electric/hydraulic power unit housed inside it, locking approach ramps, and grease zerk fittings at each hinge point.

Not included, and needed: the external air supply, and 3-5 gallons of AW32 or AW46 hydraulic oil.

Not included, and recommended for narrow-framed trucks and SUVs: the Atlas Scissor Lift Support Bar Kit.

Certification, stated honestly

The SLP9K is listed as CE certified. That is a European conformity marking — a manufacturer's declaration against European directives. It is not the same document as a North American third-party lift safety listing, and it is not a substitute for one.

For most buyers that distinction never comes up; for some it decides the purchase. If your commercial insurance policy, a fleet contract, a franchise standard or your local jurisdiction specifically requires a third-party safety listing for lifting equipment on your premises, verify that requirement before you buy — not after the lift is anchored to your floor. Ask us and we will tell you exactly what documentation this model carries.

Shipping and delivery

The SLP9K ships as freight to the lower 48 at a shipping weight of 2,400 lbs, and the carrier charge is calculated live against your delivery address during checkout rather than estimated in advance.

Because it is freight, delivery is to the kerb and you have to be able to take it off the truck — a forklift, a telehandler or equivalent, and the people to handle a crate at that weight safely. If you do not have that, take terminal pickup instead. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee.

Inspect the crate before you sign. Look for punctures, crushing and shifted banding, and write anything you find onto the bill of lading before the driver leaves. A note on the BOL at the door is what a freight claim is built on; damage reported after a clean signature is a much harder conversation.

Warranty

Atlas covers the SLP9K with 1 yr structural and 1 yr hydraulic warranty, parts only. Read that as it is written: parts are covered for that period, labour is not.

If you have a problem, contact us before you take anything apart. A cylinder, a power unit or a lock assembly that has already been stripped down is very difficult to claim on. Photograph the fault, note the model and serial, keep any failed parts, and call.

Questions about ceiling height, your slab, or whether your air supply is up to it? Talk to us before you order — a lift that does not suit the building is an expensive thing to discover on delivery day.

Atlas SLP9K Full-Rise 9,000 lb Capacity Scissor Lift

The Atlas® SLP9K full rise scissor lift combines an extremely low lift platform height and a 78 inch full rise scissor jack system. The SLP9K full rise lift is the perfect above ground lift for those customers with ceiling height restrictions and the need for “enough lift” to raise pick-up trucks. This lift is also perfect for those service shops that want to avoid the cluttered look of dozens of vertical lift columns.

The Atlas® SLP9K can also be flush mounted. The flush mounted scissor lift gives the service area a “clean look” and also provides a “flat surface” which can be driven over from any angle, making it easy to position the vehicle over the lifting platforms.

The 31″ adjustable distance between the lift platforms of the Atlas® SLP9K scissor lift can accommodate a full frame, uni-body, or SUV (truck) lifting points. It is highly recommended that you purchase the Atlas® Scissor Lift Support Bar Kit if the intended use is for lifting heavier vehicles (pickup trucks and SUVs) with narrow frames.

The separate control panel may be conveniently positioned to allow easy access for the operator. The 220 volt (single phase) electric/hydraulic power unit is housed inside the metal control panel box. The push button controls activate the raising and lowering of the lift. The sophisticated 10 position air actuated lock system is automatically engaged and disengaged as the lift is being raised or lowered. The lift has a safety lowering limit switch. Once the lift platforms are lowered to within 10 ½ inches of the ground, the lift automatically stops its descent. The Down button needs to be released and depressed again to allow the lift to go down completely.
