Description
Challenger 44060X Heavy-Duty 4-Post Chain-Driven Lift
The X is the long one. Within Challenger's heavy-duty four-post family — a range that runs from 30,000 lb to 60,000 lb capacity and from 310″ to 430″ of maximum wheelbase — this model sits at the top of the wheelbase scale at 430″, in a machine that occupies roughly 46 ft of floor front to back. If what you are trying to get onto a lift is long rather than merely heavy, that single dimension is the reason to look at this model instead of a shorter one at the same capacity.
Wheelbase Is the Spec That Decides This Purchase
Capacity gets the headline and wheelbase does the work. A tandem-axle truck, a bus, a long-chassis service body or a tractor unit with a sleeper can sit comfortably inside a lift's weight rating and still be impossible to position, because the front wheels reach the end of the runway before the rear wheels are on. There is no adjustment to make when that happens.
Measure your longest regular vehicle hub centre to hub centre — that is the figure a lift is rated on, not the bumper-to-bumper length — and compare it with 430″. Then measure bumper to bumper as well, because the vehicle has to fit the building even where it overhangs the runways.
Drive-On, Anti-Skid Runways
The runways are 32″ wide and diamond-plated, with matching approach ramps. On a four-post the runway is a road surface: the vehicle drives on under its own power, often on a wet tire, sometimes at an angle, sometimes with a driver who cannot see the runway edge from a high cab. Runway height is 14″, and the gap between them adjusts from 36″ to 58″ — or 43″ to 53.5″ with rolling jacks fitted. Set that spacing deliberately for the track widths you service rather than leaving it where the installer left it.
The Synchro-Power System and the Lock Column
The lift uses dual heavy-duty cylinders with lever controls, so power reaches the front and rear variably or in synchrony. The reason that matters is load distribution: a refuse packer, a boom truck or a concrete mixer carries a very large share of its mass over one axle group, and feeding the ends differently is what keeps an unevenly loaded vehicle level on the way up.
Ten lock positions are provided on the 40K to 60K models — a headroom argument rather than a safety-margin one, since it means parking the vehicle at a height that suits the job instead of the nearest notch. A single-point air-actuated release then disengages all four column locks together.
Confirm the Rated Capacity Before You Order
Published figures for the lifting capacity differ. The product title and the lifting-capacity field both state 60,000 lbs. The detailed specification block published with this product states 50,000 lbs — and that block is headed with a different model number, 44050X, which points to it having been drawn from the sibling model.
Both figures appear above exactly as published, each attributed to its source rather than reconciled into one. The dimensional figures on this page are corroborated by this product's own individual spec fields and we are confident in them. The rated capacity is the one number to confirm with us in writing before you order — call, text or chat and we will get it from Challenger. On a machine at this level nobody should be buying capacity from a web page anyway.
Will It Fit?
Overall height is 92″. Maximum rise at the top of the runway is 73″, so your ceiling has to clear the runway height, the rise and the tallest vehicle you intend to raise, plus room to work above it — measure to the lowest obstruction, which is usually a light fitting, a door track or a heater, not the roof deck.
The lift is 17 ft 1.25″ wide overall with 144″ between the inside faces of the columns, 410″ between the columns front to back, and 46 ft of overall length. Listed overall weight is 16,575 lbs. Power is the item to settle first: the motor is listed at 15HP, three-phase, on a supply range topping out at 460V. This is not a single-phase lift and it is not something to discover after delivery. Our data does not state a concrete thickness or slab strength for this model, so ask us for Challenger's foundation specification before you pour or drill anything — we would rather send you the document than have you guess. Confirming ceiling height, floor area, slab and electrical supply is the buyer's responsibility, and on a lift this size it is the whole project.
Perfect For
- Heavy truck and fleet shops running long wheelbases — this is the model in the family for length.
- Municipal and refuse operations, where axle loads are lopsided and the synchro-power controls earn their place.
- Bus and coach maintenance, subject to checking wheelbase and building length.
What's in the Box
The lift is supplied with diamond-plate anti-skid runways and approach ramps, the dual-cylinder synchro-power system with lever controls, the column locks with single-point air-actuated release, and black columns — the only colour offered on this model. Rolling jacks are an option, available from 15,000 lb to 35,000 lb, and are not included; if you intend to fit them, order them with the lift, because the runway spacing is set differently when they are present.

Certification, Stated Plainly
Our data for this lift does not record an independent third-party safety listing, and we are not going to imply one. That is a more consequential omission on a vehicle lift than on most equipment: some insurers, many fleet and municipal safety policies, and some local jurisdictions require a lift to carry a recognised third-party safety listing before it may be installed or used, and a purchase order can be refused on that basis after the equipment has arrived.
So find out first. Send us the exact wording — from your insurer, your safety officer or your local authority — before you order, and we will put it to Challenger. Better a phone call now than a dispute after delivery.
Shipping and Delivery
This lift ships by freight to the lower 48 states, free of charge.
At a listed 16,575 lbs the receiving arrangements are a project, not a formality. Unloading is the receiver's responsibility, and components of this size need suitable lifting equipment and hard standing to set them down clear of the truck — arrange it before the delivery is booked. If your site cannot handle it, take terminal pickup instead. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added at checkout when you select it.
Inspect before you sign. Count the columns, runways and hardware against the paperwork, photograph anything bent, gouged or shifted, and write it onto the bill of lading in plain words. A clean signature says the shipment arrived complete and undamaged, and unpicking that afterwards is very hard on freight of this value.
Warranty
The manufacturer's warranty applies, and our claims process is on the warranty claims page of this site. The term and covered components are deliberately not restated here — the document supplied with the lift governs, and a summary in a description goes out of date and is then quoted back at us. Ask and we will send the current one before you order.
One warning on every lift we sell: do not dismantle a suspect cylinder, lock or power unit before a claim is open. A component already taken apart cannot be inspected for the cause of failure, which is a routine reason for a claim to be refused. Photograph it, record what the lift was doing and what was on it, and call us first.
