Description
Champion LV04PDRHS-12 Duplex Rotary Vane Air Compressor, 120 Gallon Horizontal
This is a duplex machine, and that single word is the reason to look at it. Instead of one pump doing all the work, the LV04PDRHS-12 carries two complete rotary vane airends, each with its own TEFC electric motor, feeding one 120 gallon horizontal receiver. The mounted starter panel holds two starters plus an alternator, so the two halves take turns rather than one carrying the shop while the other sits idle.
It is rated 5 HP with delivery of 39 CFM and a working pressure of 100 PSI. Rotary vane construction with a cast iron airend, direct drive and a slow 1760 RPM running speed makes it a quiet machine to stand next to, which is why this series turns up in body shops, dental surgeries, laundries, packaging lines and cabinet shops as often as in service bays.
Why duplex changes the ownership maths
A single-pump compressor has one failure mode that stops everything: the pump. When it goes down, so does every air tool, every lift and every spray gun in the building until a service engineer arrives. A duplex unit keeps half its capacity when one side is out. That is not a redundancy claim we are inventing for marketing purposes; it is simply what two airends and two motors on one receiver physically means.
Alternation is the quieter benefit and probably the bigger one. The panel's alternator swaps which side leads, so run hours accumulate evenly instead of one pump ageing at twice the rate. Over a working life that is the difference between two pumps reaching a rebuild together on a planned shutdown and one reaching it unannounced on a Tuesday morning. For a shop whose demand swings between light and heavy through the day, it also means only one side needs to run for the light part of the day.
Rotary vane, and what 3 ppm oil carryover buys you
A reciprocating pump makes air in pulses; a vane airend makes it continuously, with a rotor turning inside a cast iron housing and the vanes riding out against the bore. Fewer reciprocating parts, no pulsation to damp, and no belt to tension or replace because the motor drives the airend directly.
The number that matters downstream is oil carryover, quoted at 3 ppm. Every lubricated compressor puts some oil into the air stream, and where that air ends up decides how much you care. Air going into an impact gun does not mind. Air going into a spray booth, a paint line, a packaging machine or a dental line minds a great deal, and every part per million you do not have to strip out is filtration you do not have to buy, maintain and replace. The airend is factory filled with CS300 vane diester lubricant, which is the fluid the carryover figure was measured with, so use it rather than a generic compressor oil.
High temperature safety shutdown protection is standard. A vane airend depends on its lubricant film, and a machine that trips on temperature instead of pushing on is a machine that gets a service rather than a replacement.
Will it fit, and what does it need?
The unit is roughly 72 inches long and weighs about 845 lbs, so it wants a solid, level floor and a route in that can take a pallet of that weight. Leave clear air around the motors and the airends: these are TEFC motors and they cool by moving air across the frame, so pushing the machine hard against a wall works against it. The receiver has a 1/2 inch outlet for your shop main. Oil capacity is 1 gallon, so plan a drain pan and somewhere to put used fluid.
Confirm your power before you order. The description for this unit offers 208-230/460 Volt 3 phase, and the phase field on our record reads three phase, but a second spec field on the same product reads single phase. Those cannot both be right for the machine that turns up on your dock, and we are not going to guess which one to print. Ask us to confirm the phase and voltage of the exact build before you place the order, and have your electrician confirm what your building actually has. Getting this wrong is a returned freight shipment, not a five minute fix.
Overall width, height and doorway clearance are not recorded in the data we hold, so we have not invented figures for them. If the install is tight, ask and we will pull them from the factory drawing.

- Shops that cannot stop and want half capacity available rather than none when a pump is down.
- Noise-sensitive premises such as dental practices, labs and workshops attached to occupied buildings.
- Packaging, laundry and light production lines with a long, steady duty day rather than short bursts.

Certification, stated plainly
Our product record for this compressor does not list any third-party safety listing or pressure vessel stamp. That is a description of our data, not a verdict on the machine. If your insurer, your local building inspector or a workplace safety audit requires a particular listing or stamp on the receiver, name it to us and we will check it against the factory paperwork before the order goes in. We will not badge this page with a mark our own records cannot support.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, within the contiguous United States. At around 845 lbs on a pallet this is not something a parcel carrier will take, and freight is priced live at checkout for the address you enter rather than averaged across the country.
Offloading is on you. Have a forklift ready with capacity comfortably above the shipping weight, or select terminal pickup and collect it with your own equipment. Deliveries to residential addresses attract a residential fee, shown in the checkout quote before payment. Before you sign the driver's paperwork, look the pallet over for a bent tank foot, a cracked motor fan cover, torn wrap or fluid on the deck, and record anything you see on the bill of lading with photographs. Once it is signed clean, the carrier's position is that it arrived undamaged.
Warranty and support
Warranty terms and the claim procedure are set out on our warranty claims page. The one thing that reliably kills a good claim is stripping the machine first: leave the airend, the motors and the panel assembled, report the fault, and wait for instruction before anyone starts removing parts. If you want the phase question above settled before you buy, call, text or chat with us on 866-774-7743.
Return policy
Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.
