Champion LVR07PDRHS-12 — 10 HP Duplex Rotary Vane, 120 Gallon Horizontal Tank

This is a rotary vane machine, and that is the fact everything else on this page hangs off. A vane airend has very few moving parts and it turns slowly — 1,760 RPM, direct driven, no belts to tension and no reciprocating mass hammering itself apart. That is why the LV and LVR series is rated for 100% duty cycle applications and why the manufacturer talks about 100,000+ operating hours without an expensive airend change or refurbishment. A piston compressor asked to run continuously is a piston compressor being worn out; this one is doing what it was designed for.

The LVR07PDRHS-12 is the duplex configuration: two compressor and motor assemblies on one 120 gallon horizontal tank, with a lead and lag system that shares the running between them. It arrives with a starter included.

What lead and lag actually buys you

A duplex package is not simply a bigger compressor. The lead and lag control alternates which machine starts first, so the two units accumulate hours evenly instead of one doing all the work and aging twice as fast as its twin. That evens out service intervals and means both airends reach the end of their life at roughly the same time rather than staggered by years.

It also changes behaviour at part load: when demand is light one compressor covers it and the other stays idle, and when demand climbs the second joins in. And when one machine is down for service, the shop still has air. For anyone whose work stops when the air stops, that redundancy is usually the reason a duplex gets specified at all.

Slow speed is the reliability story

Compressor life is largely a function of how fast things move and how hot they get. Running direct drive at 1,760 RPM means no belt to slip, glaze or need re-tensioning, and it means the airend is turning at a speed where oil films behave and heat is manageable. Fewer moving parts is the mechanism by which a machine reaches those operating-hour figures.

The controls match the philosophy. Start and stop is simple, with an hour meter and a test-off-auto switch, and there is deliberately no microprocessor. That will read as a limitation to some buyers and as the entire point to others: no controller to fail, no firmware, no screen to go blank on a Sunday, and a machine any competent electrician can work on.

Air quality and servicing

Oil carryover is quoted at less than 3 ppm, which matters if the air feeds spray equipment, pneumatic controls or anything downstream that objects to oil mist. The oil capacity is large and the filtration is generously sized, and both of those exist to lengthen service intervals rather than to look impressive on a datasheet — a machine that needs attention less often is a machine that actually gets its attention.

Servicing is deliberately ordinary: spin-on and spin-off oil filter and separator, an easy-access air filter, and a minimised list of consumable parts. On a duplex you buy two of every service item, so a short consumables list is worth twice as much here.

Will it fit your shop?

Plan the floor space first. The package is 76.1 in. long and 49.8 in. high, on a horizontal tank, and it weighs 1,210 lbs — so it needs a flat, solid floor and a route into the building that can take a pallet of that mass. It is a tank-mounted unit, not a floor-mounted airend, so it lands as one assembly.

Electrically it is a three-phase machine, offered across the 208-230/460/573 range at 60 Hz. Do not size the supply from this page: have a certified electrician specify the circuit and the protection for the voltage you actually have, because a duplex draws its starting current twice and the answer is not simply double a simplex figure.

Working pressure runs from 100 to 150 psig and the air outlet is 3/4 in. NPT. Confirming power, floor, clearance for service access and the delivery route is the customer's responsibility, and we would much rather work through it with you before the order than after the truck arrives.

Two figures to confirm before you order

Published figures for this machine's air delivery differ. The product description states up to 72.8 cfm, which is the figure at 100 psig. A separate specification field records 73 CFM — almost certainly the same measurement rounded, but not the same number. At 150 psig the specification list gives a lower delivery figure again, which is normal for any compressor; it is not printed here because it is not attributed as clearly as the other two.

Noise figures differ in the same way. The series is described as being as low as 65 dBA, while the specification entry for this particular duplex build records a higher noise level than that — which stands to reason, since a duplex has two machines in it. If either the delivery figure at your working pressure or the noise level in your building is going to decide the purchase, ask us and we will get the numbers confirmed for this exact configuration before you commit.
