The specification that decides this purchase is not the capacity, it is the storage size. When the shell comes off, the BCS-3000 comes apart into two packages: one 15" x 15" x 25" and one 4" x 4" x 32". A cart that stores in a corner is a cart a shop will actually own; a cart that cannot be broken down occupies a bay footprint permanently whether it is carrying anything or not.

What it gives up to do that is height adjustment — the deck is a fixed 22". What it keeps is the useful part: a 3,000 lbs rating, 8" x 2" HD poly casters, and adjustment from 38" to 65" in both width and length, so it still sizes to the body rather than the other way round.

• The body. Width adjusts 38" to 65" and length adjusts 38" to 65". Measure the supporting structure of the shell or section you intend to carry, not its overall bodywork.

The casters do more work than they look like they do

8" x 2" HD poly caster wheels are oversized for the load, and they are the reason a loaded shell crosses a shop floor smoothly. Large-diameter poly rolls over expansion joints, extension cords and dropped hardware instead of stopping dead at them — the sudden stop is what jolts a body on its supports. Poly also resists flat-spotting when a loaded cart stands in a corner for six months, which is precisely what a restoration cart does.

Powder coat, and the environment it lives in

The frame is powder coated. A body cart spends its life among blasting media, primer overspray, solvent and damp shells, and a chipped painted frame in that environment rusts at the chip and then transfers that rust to the next panel it carries. Powder coat is what keeps a cart presentable enough to put a finished shell back onto.
