iDEAL PSB-PSMTD: the mixing table that rolls, with the masking station built into it

Most paint-room benches are fixtures. This one is not: at 78 lbs on 3" poly casters, the PSB-PSMTD is designed to be pushed to where the work is — alongside the booth, next to the car being masked, back against the wall when the floor is needed. The feature that pays for itself is on top of it: two tape and paper masking dispensers, so the masking materials travel with the mixing surface instead of living on a separate stand at the other end of the shop.

Will It Fit?

• Footprint. 46.5" wide, 21.75" deep, 32" tall overall. Compact enough to sit beside a booth door without blocking it.
• Working height. 32" at the table. Check it against your existing bench — you will be mixing standing up, and a bench at the wrong height ends up used for storage.
• The floor it will roll on. 3" casters are the practical constraint here. They deal with a sealed, level shop floor easily; a rough, broken or heavily sloped surface is what defeats a caster that size, and a rolling bench that will not roll is just a bench.
• Weight and assembly. 78 lbs shipped, and iDEAL states that minor assembly is required — so allow a little time on arrival rather than expecting to use it out of the crate.

Why masking dispensers on the bench change the workflow

Masking is not one job done once. It is done, checked, adjusted, and done again after the panel is prepped. Two tape and paper dispensers mounted on the same unit as the mixing top mean the technician stops walking — and a shop's real losses to layout are never one long walk, they are two hundred short ones. Having the dispensers travel with the bench also means the masking materials end up next to the vehicle, which is where the tape is actually pulled.

The gun holder and the catch basin

The dual spray gun holder is fitted with a catch basin underneath it. That is a small thing with a specific purpose: a gun set down after spraying or after a flush drips, and where it drips is either into a basin or onto a floor that someone will then walk paint across. Two holders let you park a colour gun and a clear gun, or a gun and a cleaning attachment, without either one going on the table top.

Stainless, because of what cleans it

The unit is built from heavy-duty stainless steel. In a mixing area the deciding factor is not load, it is chemistry: the solvents that clean the bench are the ones that will strip a painted finish, and once a painted bench is through its coating it starts corroding and shedding into the work.
