Product Description
A steel bench that arrives with its tool storage already attached
The iDeal PWB-TC-1600-BLK is a bolt-together steel work bench with a lockable two-drawer tool cabinet built into the frame, finished in black powder coat. The detail worth leading with is the material. The bench is formed from 2.54 mm steel and the top carries a 2″ retaining fence on three of its four sides. A thick deck plus a raised lip is what separates a bench you can hammer on, clamp to and set a cylinder head down on from a bench that dishes under a breaker bar and lets dropped hardware roll onto the floor.
It is one unit, not two. You are not buying a bench and then shopping separately for a rolling cabinet to park underneath it, and there is no gap between the two for sockets to disappear into. Rated to support 1,600 lbs, it is aimed at a technician who wants a permanent, fixed station rather than a mobile cart.
Will it fit your space?
Plan on a footprint of 60″ wide by 28″ deep, standing 34.75″ high. The tool cabinet takes up 26.25″ wide by 16″ deep by 10″ high of the volume beneath the top, so the remaining under-bench space is open for a stool, a parts bin or a compressor tank. The fully adjustable leveling leg stands are the reason this bench works on a sloped or trowel-marked shop floor: you level the top to the work, not to the concrete.
Two things are worth measuring before you order rather than after. First, the wall run: at 60″ the bench needs a clear span plus room for a stool and for anything you plan to store at the ends. Second, the approach: the crate has to reach the room it is going into, which means checking door widths, corners and any step at the threshold. Confirming that the bench fits the room, and that the route to the room is clear, is the buyer's responsibility, and it is the single most common cause of a delivery going wrong.
Why the steel gauge and the fence matter more than the look
2.54 mm is a real structural thickness rather than a sheet-metal skin over a frame. On a bench top, gauge decides two things a spec sheet rarely spells out: how flat the surface stays after a few years of impact work, and whether a vise bolted through the top pulls the deck up around the fasteners. A thicker top spreads that load into the frame instead of concentrating it under the mounting plate.
The 2″ retaining fence on three sides is the feature people appreciate a month in. It is not a styling line. It stops a rolling bearing, a spring clip or a drain plug from leaving the bench when you push a part across the top, and it gives you something to butt long stock against when you are marking or cutting. The open fourth side is deliberate — you still need one edge you can clamp to and slide heavy work off.
The cabinet is part of the structure, and it locks
The two drawers sit in a cabinet welded and bolted into the bench frame rather than hung off it, so loading the drawers does not twist the top. Both drawers lock. In a shared bay, a lock is the difference between personal tooling that stays where you left it and tooling that quietly migrates; in a home garage it is the difference between a garage anyone can walk into and one where the expensive metrology stays put.
Bolt-together assembly, and what that means for you
The bench ships knocked down and bolts together with hand tools. That has a real advantage over a welded bench beyond the freight cost: a knocked-down bench goes through a standard doorway in pieces, so a basement shop or an upstairs mezzanine is possible where a welded unit simply is not. Budget an unhurried hour or two, a socket set and a second pair of hands for setting the top on the frame.
Measure the top before you plan the run
Published figures for the work surface differ by half an inch. The feature list describes it as 59.5″ x 27.5″; the specification table further down this page gives the table top work area as 59″ wide by 27.5″ long. Half an inch is immaterial if the bench is going against an open wall, and it is not immaterial if you are fitting it into a fixed alcove or lining it up with an existing run of cabinets. If that half inch decides your layout, ask us to confirm the top width in writing before you order — we will take the measurement straight back to iDeal.
Perfect for
- The home garage that has outgrown a folding table — a fixed, level, lockable station for engine work, carburettor and brake rebuilds, and general assembly.
- The one-bay professional shop — a tear-down bench beside the lift, with the tools that live at that bench locked into it.
- A dealership or fleet service area — a repeatable station that can be specified and bought again as bays are added.
- Any shared space — a workshop, club garage or teaching bay where the lockable drawers do real work.
What is in the box
The bench, the two-drawer lockable tool cabinet, the adjustable leveling leg stands and the assembly hardware, finished in black powder coat and shipped knocked down for bolt-together assembly. Nothing else is claimed as included, and we would rather say that plainly than let a photograph imply a vise or a drawer liner that is not in the crate.

Ratings and listings, stated plainly
The 1,600 lbs support figure is the manufacturer's own rating for this bench. No third-party safety listing is claimed for it by iDeal, and we do not imply one. That is normal for shop furniture rather than a shortcoming — third-party listing schemes in this trade cover lifting equipment, not benches. If your insurer, your employer's equipment policy or a local inspection regime asks for a listed bench, get the requirement in writing and send it to us before you order so we can tell you honestly whether this unit answers it.
Shipping and delivery
This bench ships by freight to the lower 48. Freight is quoted live at checkout for your address, so the figure you see is current rather than a number baked into a page. You must be able to take the shipment off the truck — a forklift, a few strong people, or a pallet jack and a dock — or you can choose to collect from the carrier's local terminal instead. A residential delivery carries a residential fee, which is shown before you pay. When the truck arrives, look the crate over before you sign: note any tear, crush or shift on the delivery receipt, photograph it, and tell us the same day. A receipt signed clean is very hard to argue with afterwards.
Warranty
This bench is covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty. We publish the current terms, the exclusions and the claim procedure on our warranty claims page rather than paraphrasing them here, because the terms are the manufacturer's to set and a summary that drifts out of date helps nobody. If a warranty term is part of your buying decision, ask us to confirm it in writing before you order. One practical warning: if something is wrong, do not disassemble or modify the unit before you talk to us. A part that has been taken apart is usually outside the claim, and photographs of the fault as found are the fastest route to a resolution.
