Description
iDEAL TC-400M-B-PL230-K-BLK: the assist arm is the reason this configuration exists
Anyone who has fought a stiff-sidewall powersport tyre knows the moment: the bead is broken, the tool is in place, and you need a third hand to hold the tyre down in the drop centre while the table turns. Without one, the bead climbs back out and you start again. The TC-400M-B-PL230-K-BLK is supplied with the assist arm, and that arm is the third hand — it presses and holds the tyre where it needs to be so one person can mount a low-profile or stubborn cover without help and without levering hard enough to mark a rim.
The base machine underneath it is a full powersport changer: a 5,500 lbs bead breaker, electric table rotation, and a swing-arm column that clamps wheels from 6" to 24" outside, up to 37" in diameter and 10" wide.
Why an assist arm changes the work, not just the speed
It is tempting to file an assist arm under convenience. It is not, for two reasons.
The first is damage. Most rim marks happen when a tyre will not stay in the drop centre and the person fitting it compensates with force on the bar. Hold the tyre where it belongs and the leverage needed falls away, which is why an assist arm and the machine's plastic clamps solve the same problem from two directions.
The second is that some tyres are genuinely not a one-person job without it. Stiff sidewalls, tight-fitting covers on narrow rims, and anything low-profile can defeat a bare changer no matter how good the operator is. If your shop is one or two people, that is the difference between taking the job and turning it away.
The bead breaker
Powersport tyres are small and frequently seized. A cover that has been on a quad for six seasons can be bonded to the rim hard enough that no amount of standing on it will help. The breaker on this machine develops 5,500 lbs of force, which moves that class of tyre without drama and without heating anything up with a hammer.
The clamps holding the wheel while that happens run on double-acting pneumatic cylinders — powered in both directions rather than air one way and spring the other, so the grip is firm and consistent and the release is positive. A wheel that shifts in the jaws mid-job is the most common way a rim gets damaged on a changer.
Supplies you need before it can be used
- Compressed air at 125 psi working pressure. The clamping and the bead breaker are pneumatic, so the compressor is not optional and it is not a detail — an undersized one makes a capable machine feel slow and weak. Check what your compressor actually delivers, under repeated demand, before you order.
- 110V, 15 amp, single phase. Electric table rotation runs from a normal socket. No three-phase, no special circuit.
- Space. We do not publish a footprint for this model. If the bay is tight, ask us for the installation drawing before you buy — we would rather send it than have you measure from a product photo.
Confirming the air supply, the electrical socket and the space is the buyer's responsibility.
Loading, clamping and inflating
The column uses a swing arm design, so it moves aside rather than tilting back, and the wheel loads and unloads on a short repeatable path. Four adjustable clamps cover the full 6" to 24" range, and they are faced in plastic so a finished or polished rim is not scored by the machine that is supposed to be servicing it.
For inflation there is a hand-held inflation gun, so seating and setting pressure is done at the machine with the wheel still clamped. The changer also arrives with a regulator, oiler and water trap — the air preparation set. It is worth fitting all three from day one: the regulator holds the working pressure steady, the oiler keeps the pneumatic cylinders lubricated, and the water trap keeps condensate out of them. Skipping them is the usual reason a pneumatic changer feels sticky after two winters.
Perfect For
- One and two-person motorcycle shops, where the assist arm decides which jobs are possible.
- ATV, side-by-side and scooter service across a wide spread of wheel sizes.
- Powersport dealerships doing prep and warranty work at volume.
- Track-day and race support, where stiff covers and fast turnarounds are routine.
What's in the Box
Per the manufacturer's feature list: the changer with the assist arm, the swing arm column, four adjustable plastic clamps on double-acting pneumatic cylinders, the bead breaker, electric table rotation, the hand-held inflation gun, and the regulator, oiler and water trap. An air line to the machine, mounting hardware and any balancing equipment are bought separately.

Certification, stated plainly
There is no record in our data of an independent third-party listing for this machine, and we prefer to say so rather than let silence imply otherwise. The distinction is real: a manufacturer stating that its own product complies with a standard is not the same document as an independent listing issued by an outside body, and certain insurers and workplace inspectors recognise only the latter. If your premises are inspected or your policy names a standard, establish precisely what is required and ask us to confirm what this model holds before you place an order.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, lower 48, quoted live at checkout so the figure reflects today's rates rather than a number typed into the page. It crates up at 530 lbs, so decide how it comes off the truck before it ships — a forklift or a pallet truck with a dock, or terminal pickup and a trailer if the delivery address has no equipment. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee; mention it when you order so the quote is right the first time. Look the crate over before signing: impact damage, punctures, the count. Write anything you find on the bill of lading, because that note is what any later claim depends on.
Warranty
The manufacturer's warranty covers this changer, and the terms in force are on our warranty claims page — deliberately the only place we quote them, since a term length copied into a description ages badly. If something fails, leave it assembled until the claim is agreed: photograph the fault, photograph the serial plate, and speak to us first. And drain the water trap regularly — a large share of early pneumatic faults are moisture, not manufacture.
