Description

Industrial Gold DCI1023E120H-P — Duplex Air Compressor, Two 10 HP Pumps, 120 Gallon

This is not a big compressor. It is two compressors sharing one 120 gallon tank, and that distinction is the entire reason to buy it.

A duplex unit puts two complete 10 HP pump-and-motor sets on a single receiver and alternates between them. Two consequences follow, and both are worth real money in a shop that cannot stop.

Redundancy. When one pump goes down — a valve, a belt, a motor — the other one keeps the shop in air. You lose capacity, not production. On a single 20 HP machine, the same failure closes the bays until the engineer arrives. If you have ever sent technicians home because the compressor died on a Tuesday, that is the argument in one sentence.

Halved duty cycle. Alternating means each pump runs roughly half the hours the shop demands. Reciprocating compressors wear per stroke, so two pumps sharing the work last far longer than one pump doing all of it — and on light-demand mornings only one pump needs to start at all, instead of a large motor cycling on and off against a fraction of its capacity.

Delivered air is 35 CFM at 175 PSI, alternating.

Order the right voltage — this one is on you

This machine is built for three phase supply and is available as either 208-230 or 460 Volt. It is not switchable after the fact by flicking something: you must specify the voltage at the time of order.

That single line is the most important sentence on this page. Three phase is not available in most domestic buildings, so confirm what your unit actually has before you order, and confirm which of the two three-phase voltages is at your panel. Industrial Gold's own specification declines to state an amp draw or a recommended breaker, and records both as "consult a certified electrician" — which is the correct answer rather than an evasion, because the conductor size depends on your run length, your voltage and your local code. Take that instruction literally. Get the electrician involved before the order, not after the pallet arrives.

A magnetic starter is fitted, so motor overload protection is part of the machine.

Will it fit?

Plan for a horizontal tank and a wide footprint. The recorded dimensions are 86" wide, 30" long and 50" high, and the machine weighs 1,800 lbs.

Read that width again before you clear a corner for it — over seven feet, plus the working clearance you need at both ends to service two pumps rather than one. That last part is the layout mistake people make with duplex machines: they fit the footprint and then discover that changing a belt on the far pump means moving the compressor. Leave access on both sides.

The floor needs to be level, solid and able to carry nearly a ton on a small number of contact points. Vibration pads are supplied with the machine, which is a meaningful inclusion at this weight — a duplex compressor with two crankshafts running is a genuine source of structure-borne noise, and pads under the feet are the simplest fix there is.

The engineering worth paying for

The specification of the pumps themselves is unusually detailed for this class, and a few items are worth pulling out of the list.

Bearings on both ends of the crankshaft, with needle bearings and rod inserts on the connecting rods. Supporting the crank at both ends resists the flex that eventually goes oval on a hard-worked pump, and rod inserts mean a rebuilder can service the bottom end rather than replacing it.

Swedish steel disc and spring valves. Valves are the part of a reciprocating compressor that fails first, because they flex millions of times per shift. Valve steel grade is therefore not a detail — it is the wear item you will be buying again, and a manufacturer naming the steel is a manufacturer expecting to be checked.

TEFC motors — totally enclosed, fan cooled. In a workshop full of grinding dust, brake dust and mist, an open-frame motor is an air filter with windings in it. Enclosed motors are the difference between a five-year motor and a fifteen-year one.

Cast iron pumps, a beltguard aftercooler and heavy duty air filters handle heat and intake quality; a centrifugal unloader takes the load off the motor at start; a low oil switch shuts the machine down before a dry pump destroys itself; and an automatic tank drain gets the condensate out without anyone remembering to. Steel flex discharge lines absorb the movement between a running pump and a fixed tank, and the belt guards are fully enclosed.

Perfect for

  • Multi-bay service shops and tyre operations where the compressor stopping means the business stopping.
  • Body shops running booths and sanders continuously, where sustained delivery matters more than peak pressure.
  • Light manufacturing and fabrication on three phase supply with a long working day.
  • Anyone who has already lost a day to a single large compressor failing, and does not intend to do it twice.

Certification, stated honestly

The specification claims UL electrical components — that is a statement about the electrical parts used in the build, and it is what the manufacturer says, so it is what we repeat.

What our record does not contain is a stated pressure-vessel certification for the 120 gallon receiver, or a third-party safety listing for the assembled machine. We are not going to imply either by writing an acronym the data never mentions. On a vessel this size that gap is worth closing before you buy rather than after: if your insurer, your local inspector or your company's equipment policy requires documented tank certification, ask us and we will get written confirmation from the manufacturer before you commit.

Shipping, pick-up and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states, and at 1,800 lbs on an oversized pallet this is a machine that needs planning rather than a delivery slot. You will need a forklift rated for the weight, or a dock and a pallet truck, and a route into the building wide enough for a seven-foot footprint. If you cannot receive it, terminal pickup with a suitable trailer is the sensible alternative. Residential delivery carries a residential fee.

One correction to this listing: the pick-up line on this page names a warehouse in Acworth, Georgia under a different brand's name. We have left the location visible because it may well be right, but treat it as unconfirmed — check pick-up availability with us before you plan a collection rather than driving to a site on the strength of a mislabelled line. Call, text or chat with us on 866-774-7743 and we will confirm where this specific unit ships from.

When it does arrive: inspect it on the trailer, note any damage on the bill of lading with the driver present, and photograph the pallet before it is broken down. On a machine of this value a clean signature over a damaged crate is an expensive mistake.

Warranty

1 year consumer warranty and 1 year commercial warranty, as recorded in the specification. The warranty claims process for this brand runs through our own warranty claims page rather than a manufacturer portal, which in practice means you talk to us first.

The usual and important caveat applies with extra force on a duplex machine: do not disassemble a failed pump, motor or valve assembly before the claim is opened. The failed part normally has to be inspected as it failed. And because one pump can be down while the other keeps running, there is a real temptation to quietly carry on and deal with it later — do not. Report it, keep the evidence, and let the surviving pump work while the claim proceeds.
