Description

Katool KT-T830 and KT-B750: the bay pairing built for stiff sidewalls

The reason to look at this combination rather than a cheaper one is the bead breaker and the arms either side of it. The KT-T830 uses a 186 mm stainless bead breaker cylinder and carries assist arms on both sides of the machine — the pair of powered helpers that hold a bead down and press a sidewall in while the mounting head does its work. On a run-flat, on a stiff-sidewall performance tyre, or on anything low-profile wrapped around an expensive alloy, those arms are the difference between a clean job and a marked rim, and they are the reason a shop buys a machine at this level instead of a bare-bones changer.

Paired with it is the KT-B750 wheel balancer, so mounting and balancing arrive as one purchase, on one delivery, running on the same 120V single-phase supply. For a shop adding tyre service, or replacing two aging machines at once, that matters more than it sounds: two machines specified as a pair cannot mismatch each other.

The bead breaker is the part that gets abused

Every tyre that comes off the rim goes through the bead breaker first, and it is the component doing the most violent work on the machine. A stainless cylinder body resists the corrosion that a shop environment guarantees — wet wheels, tyre soap, road salt in winter, brake dust in everything — and 186 mm of bore is a lot of force applied slowly and consistently rather than in a jolt. Slow and consistent is what separates a broken bead from a torn one.

Behind it, the pneumatic system is filtered and lubricated on the way in. Compressed air in a workshop carries water and grit; the filter takes them out and the lubricator meters oil into the air so the cylinders and valves stay serviced without anyone thinking about it. It is an unglamorous subsystem that quietly decides how long the machine lasts.

What actually protects the rim

Three separate parts do this job, and they are worth naming because a scratched alloy is the most expensive mistake in tyre service.

The clamping jaws are alloy steel, carburised to a depth of up to 1.1 mm and then quenched right through, which gives a hard outer face over a tough core — hard so it does not wear round on the clamping edge, tough so it does not crack under load. The jaws wear covers so the metal never contacts the rim directly. The mounting head is stainless steel, solution-treated and polished to a shape that follows the bead rather than fighting it, with a plastic cover between it and the wheel. And a spade cover shields the lever's contact point during the demount. All three are cheap consumable protection standing between a machine and a warranty claim on somebody's wheel.

The KT-B750 balancer

The balancer is dynamic, spinning the wheel at 180 rpm and reporting inner and outer corrections to ±1 gram, with a measuring cycle of about 7 seconds. It takes rims up to 30 in, wheel assemblies up to 880 mm across, centre bores up to 135 mm and wheel weights up to 65 kg. Its automatic measurement ruler enters the A and D values for you rather than asking the technician to read and key them, which removes the most common source of a bad balance: a mistyped distance.

Construction follows the same logic as the changer. The body is 3 mm steel, welded rather than bolted, because a balancer that flexes reads its own movement as imbalance. The pressure sensor sits on an integrated support with 8 mm bottom and side boards for the same reason, and the 36 mm shaft thread is quenched, which is the part that carries every wheel you will ever mount. Balance modes cover different rim types, the unit switches between ounces and grams and between millimetres and inches, and it runs its own fault diagnosis and two-sided self-calibration.

What your shop needs to supply

  • Power: 120V single phase for both machines. The changer's motor is 2.0 HP (1.5 kW) with pure copper windings; the balancer's is 0.25 kW.
  • Air: regulated compressed air up to 145 PSI for the changer's bead breaker, clamps and inflation.
  • Floor: flat, level concrete. The changer alone is 240 kg (529 lbs), and both machines should be bolted down as the manual specifies.
  • Room to work: allow space to walk a mounted truck tyre right around the changer's turntable, not just to stand at the front of it.

One honest note on the clamping range. Katool quotes it two different ways for this machine: the product description says 12 in to 22 in gripping from the outside of the rim and 14 in to 24 in from the inside, while the spec table on the same page says 12 in to 24 in outside and 14 in to 26 in inside. Both are printed here, because picking the wider pair would flatter the machine and picking the narrower pair would be a guess. If a particular rim size is the reason you are buying, message us and we will confirm the range against the plate on the machine before you order.

Perfect For

  • General repair shops adding tyre service that need mounting and balancing to arrive together and work together.
  • Independent tyre shops handling low-profile and run-flat fitments where assist arms are not optional equipment.
  • Performance and wheel specialists working on alloys where a mark on the rim is the whole job lost.
  • Mobile and fleet operations setting up a fixed workshop bay in one purchase.

Certification and standards

Katool's published data for this pairing does not name any third-party certification or listing, and we are not going to imply one that the manufacturer does not claim. In practice that rarely blocks a tyre-service purchase — third-party listings matter most on vehicle lifts, where a person works under a raised load. It can still matter to you: some insurers and some workplace safety policies ask for documentation on shop equipment generally. If yours does, ask us before you order and we will find out exactly what paperwork is available for these two machines rather than guess on a product page.

Shipping and delivery

Both machines travel as freight to the lower 48 states, and the cost is calculated against your address at checkout from the carrier's live rates. Freight means a truck and a crate, not a courier: the driver is not responsible for getting the machines onto your floor. A forklift is the straightforward answer for a 240 kg changer. If you do not have one, select terminal pickup and collect from the carrier's depot, where they load you. A residential address carries a residential fee, which is shown at checkout when you choose it.

Look the shipment over before signing. Crushed crate corners, cut strapping and a machine that has moved on its pallet are all visible in a thirty-second walk-round, and noting them on the bill of lading with the driver there is what makes a claim work. Photograph everything. After a clean signature the carrier's position is that it arrived undamaged.

Warranty

A written Katool warranty document covers this equipment; ask us and we will send the current copy before you buy. Whatever it says, do not strip a component before a claim is open — a dismantled pneumatic valve, cylinder or control board is treated as modified, and a replacement that would have been supplied becomes a negotiation. Photograph the fault, record the serial numbers from both machines, and call us first.
