Description

The cabinet on the XT300 is fine-grained galvanized steel, chosen to resist rust in the kind of building this heater actually lives in — damp, dusty, salted in winter, and nobody’s idea of a clean mechanical room. It is a small specification with a long consequence: the appliance hangs in the shop air for its whole service life, and the cabinet is what stands between that air and everything inside it.

This is the largest heater in Lanair’s XT series, pushing out up to 300,000 BTUH, supplied here as Package 4 with a wall-vent chimney kit sized for a 16' eave.

Three details that show where the design effort went

The XT series is Lanair’s most advanced line, and three features tell you what they were optimising for. The burner is a high-performance XT unit that the manufacturer states burns more efficiently than any of their previous burners. The fan is internal rather than bolted to the outside of the cabinet, which is a noise decision — a shop heater that drones is a shop heater somebody switches off. And the louvers are adjustable and lockable, so the air is aimed at where people work and stays aimed there rather than drifting back to a factory setting.

None of those change the heat output. All three change whether the heater is pleasant to work under, which is what determines whether it gets used the way it should be.

Burning what you already pay to remove

The fuel list covers used crankcase oil up to 50 wt, used synthetic oil, used automatic transmission fluid including synthetic ATF, and #1 and #2 fuel oil. In practice that means the drain oil, the transmission service and the diesel can all end up in the same tank — and every gallon burned is a gallon you are not paying a hauler to collect. With fuel prices unstable and disposal costs climbing, that double saving is the argument Lanair makes for the XT series, and it is a fair one.

The chimney kit, itemised

Value packages are usually described in generalities. This one is not, so here is exactly what is listed for the 16' eave wall-vent kit:

  • 1 chimney cap
  • 1 (24") Class A chimney pipe
  • 1 (36") Class A chimney pipe
  • 1 storm collar
  • 1 roof flashing, 0/12-6/12
  • 1 finishing collar
  • 1 (14") slip connector
  • 4 (24") black pipe
  • 1 black tee pipe with cap
  • 1 roof support bracket
  • 1 (90°) elbow

Two honest observations about that list. It is specified for a 16' eave, so if your eave height differs the kit is the part of this package to talk to us about before ordering, not after. And although this package is labelled as the wall-vent option, the list includes roof flashing and a roof support bracket — components associated with a roof penetration. We are not going to explain that away. Tell us your intended vent route and we will confirm the exact kit with Lanair in writing before anything ships.

Will it fit, and will your structure carry it?

The XT300 hangs from the building at 630 lbs, so the first conversation is structural and it should happen before the order rather than after. Hang it where the burner and the service points can actually be reached; heat rises perfectly well from a sensible height, and an unreachable heater is an unmaintained one.

The cabinet measures 36" x 46" x 48" (height x width x depth). The flue is 8" Class A pipe, exiting from the top or the side. Electrical supply is 120 V at 20 Amps, and the burner needs compressed air at 2 CFM and 15-18 PSI while it fires — modest, but continuous, so confirm your compressor is not already running at its limit. Verifying structure, clearances, the vent route and local permitting is the buyer’s responsibility.

One note on ducting: the XTD series is specified as ductable, while this XT model’s specification sheet answers that question with “Call”. If distributing heat through ductwork is part of your plan, ask us first — do not assume it, and do not let an installer assume it either.

Two figures from the manufacturer’s table are deliberately absent above: the fuel input rate and the axial fan rating. Both appear in our data as bare numbers whose unit exists only in a column heading, and a specification worth quoting is one worth quoting with its unit attached. Both are on the manufacturer’s specification table further down this page — and if either is decisive for you, ask us and we will confirm them properly.

Perfect For

  • Large workshops and warehouses up to the rated 10,000 square feet.
  • Fleet shops and quick-lube operations producing waste oil in volume all year.
  • Buildings with a 16' eave, which is what this package’s chimney kit is specified around.
  • Damp or dusty premises, where the galvanized cabinet is doing real work.

Certification and compliance

Lanair states that all of its units are UL listed. We are passing that on as the manufacturer’s claim, because it is theirs to make and yours to verify — and with a fuel-burning appliance you may well have to. Installation normally requires a mechanical permit, and inspectors ask to see listing documentation for the specific model. Ask us before you buy and we will get the current paperwork from Lanair so you have it in hand rather than chasing it mid-inspection. Local rules on burning used oil differ by jurisdiction, so check yours as well.

Delivery and inspection

This is a freight shipment to the contiguous United States (the lower 48 states). Plan how a heavy crated appliance comes off the truck — forklift, loading dock, or terminal pickup, which is often the simplest answer. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee; a commercial address is usually easier for a unit this size.

Inspect the shipment before signing for it. Check the cabinet and louvers for dents, look over the burner housing, and count the chimney cartons against the list above, because a missing carton found at delivery is a very different conversation from one found on installation day. Note anything wrong on the bill of lading while the driver is present.

Warranty

Warranty is handled through our warranty claims page. Do not take the unit apart before the claim is open — photograph the fault, keep the packaging if transit damage is a possibility, and contact us first. Keep your cleaning and service records as well; on oil-fired equipment a documented maintenance history is regularly what settles a warranty question.
