The Oase FiltoClear 3400 (gen 3) 24 W UVC ballast is the electronic component that regulates electrical current to the UV lamp. If the ballast fails, the UV lamp will not illuminate — meaning algae and pathogens pass through the filter untreated. A flickering or non-starting UV lamp is the most common symptom of ballast failure.
Restores UV Clarification
The ballast converts mains power to the precise voltage and frequency the 24 W UV lamp requires for optimal output. An underperforming ballast reduces UV intensity before it fails entirely, so replacing it proactively when you notice reduced water clarity — even with a new bulb installed — is good practice.

Installation
Disconnect the filter from mains power. Access the ballast housing, unplug the old ballast from its connector, and remove it from the mounting bracket. Plug in the new ballast, secure it in the bracket, and restore power. The UV lamp should illuminate immediately — if it does not, inspect the lamp and quartz sleeve.
