The Oase FiltoClear 5200 (gen 3) 42 W UVC ballast regulates the current that powers the mid-range UV lamp in your pressure filter. When the ballast degrades, UV output drops even with a new bulb installed — algae returns and water turns green despite an apparently functioning filter. A non-starting or flickering lamp almost always points to the ballast.
Consistent UV Output
The electronic ballast delivers the exact voltage and frequency the 42 W lamp needs for peak germicidal performance. An aging ballast may still light the lamp but at reduced intensity, which is enough for algae spores to survive the UV chamber. Replace the ballast whenever you install a new UV lamp for maximum effectiveness.

Installation
Disconnect the filter from power. Open the ballast housing, unplug the old unit, and slide in the replacement. Reconnect the wiring harness, close the housing, and restore power. The lamp should illuminate steadily — if it flickers, check the lamp and quartz sleeve for damage.
