Description

Quincy QP Pro 10 HP, 120 Gallon Vertical Two-Stage Air Compressor, 208V 3-Phase

Almost every reciprocating air compressor on the market is splash lubricated: the crank dips into the sump and throws oil around the crankcase, and gravity does the rest. This one is not. The QP Pro carries a Gerotor positive-displacement oil pump that feeds pressurised oil to the crankshaft, the bearings and the connecting rods - the same principle a car engine uses, and for the same reason.

That is the difference worth paying for here, and it is what separates this machine from its QT MAX stablemates. Everything else is familiar: a 10 HP motor on 208 Volt 3-phase supply, a two-stage pump with cast iron cylinders and aluminum heads, and a 120 gallon vertical receiver rated to 175 PSI.

A note on the model number before you order

Our own product data carries two codes for this machine. The description heading and the specification block both give 5103DS12VCA20; a paragraph inside the same description gives 3103DS12VCA20. We have not been able to settle which is current from the data we hold, so we are showing you both rather than picking whichever looks more likely. If your quote, your purchase order or your electrician paperwork references a particular code, send it to us and we will confirm the exact build before anything ships.

What pressure lubrication actually buys you

Splash lubrication works, and it works well enough that most of the industry uses it. Its weakness is that oil delivery depends on speed and on angle. At start-up, before the crankcase is properly wet, the bearings run drier than they should; under sustained heavy load the oil film is thinnest exactly where the loads are highest.

A pressure system does not have that problem. The Gerotor pump is driven mechanically and delivers oil at pressure from the first revolution, straight to the bearing surfaces, whatever the load. Practically, that shows up as a machine which tolerates hard duty and frequent starting better than a splash-fed equivalent, and it is also why this line gets a spin-on oil filter. Once you have oil under pressure you can usefully filter it, the way you filter a car engine. A splash system has nowhere to put a filter.

The maintenance consequence is agreeable. Oil and filter changes are a job you already know how to do, and there is an oil sight glass on the machine, so a five-second look tells you the level before every shift.

Airflow, and why we are not printing a number

Quincy rates this pump delivered air at 175 PSI, and the figure is recorded in our specification block. It is stored there as a bare number with no unit attached, and we have a firm rule about that: we do not publish a performance figure whose unit we cannot verify in our own data. So we will not print an airflow number on this page that we might have to correct later.

Ask us and we will confirm the delivered air for this exact build in writing before you order. If the sizing is marginal for your tool list, that written answer is what you want anyway - a number on a web page has never yet settled an argument about a body shop air supply.

Will it fit

The vertical layout is the one to choose when floor space is scarce. This unit occupies roughly 40 inches by 30 inches and stands about 75 inches tall, weighing 850 lbs. That is a modest footprint for 120 gallons of storage - the price is height, so measure your ceiling, and measure any door, roller shutter or overhead track it has to pass under on the way in.

The pad must be level and solid. Eight hundred and fifty pounds sitting on four feet will find every high spot in a floor and work the mounts loose over a season. Leave clearance all round for cooling air and for access to the drain, the sight glass and the belt guard. Confirming the floor, the clearances and the route in is the customer responsibility, and it is a ten-minute job with a tape measure.

Power

This build is wired for 208 Volt 3-phase service - the supply you typically find in an older light-industrial building or a strip-unit shop rather than a house. A magnetic starter is fitted. Quincy declines to publish a breaker size and instead records the requirement as consult a certified electrician, which is the correct answer: conductor size depends on the length of your run and on local code, and neither is something a catalogue can know.

Perfect For

  • Busy independent service shops where the compressor starts and stops all day and the lubrication system is the part under real stress.
  • Fabrication shops with a tall bay and no floor to spare.
  • Light manufacturing already supplied with 208 Volt 3-phase power.
  • Owners who maintain their own equipment and would rather change a spin-on filter than gamble on a splash system.

Not the right choice for a home garage: there is no 3-phase supply in a house, and this is 850 lbs of machine before you have run a single line of pipe.

What Is In The Box

A factory-assembled unit - pressure-lubricated two-stage pump, motor, belt drive and guard mounted on the 120 gallon vertical tank, with the magnetic starter fitted and the spin-on oil filter and sight glass in place. Quincy warranty documentation comes with the machine.

You will still need: the electrical supply run and disconnect, shop pipework beyond the 3/4 inch tank outlet, downstream filtration or drying if your work needs it, isolation pads, and spare oil and filters for the first service. No aftercooler or air dryer is fitted to this model.

Certification, stated honestly

The manufacturer certification line for this unit names an ASME tank and UL and CSA marks. Those apply to the equipment as built. They do not certify your installation, and nobody should read them that way.

Whether your feeder, disconnect, overcurrent protection and ventilation satisfy code is a question for your electrician and your local inspector, decided on your floor and not in a catalogue. If an insurer or an authority having jurisdiction wants documentation, ask us and we will get the manufacturer paperwork to you before you commit, rather than leaving you to find a gap at inspection.

Shipping and delivery

This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Deliveries to a residential address carry a residential fee. A commercial address with a dock or forklift costs less, and collecting from the carrier terminal costs less again.

Unloading is on you. The truck delivers to the kerb; getting 850 lbs off the trailer needs a forklift, a dock or a plan. If you have none of those, choose terminal pickup and bring suitable equipment.

Check the machine before you sign for it. Look over the crate, the tank, the pump and the motor, and record anything you find on the bill of lading in front of the driver. Signing a clean receipt and calling later is the one thing that turns a straightforward freight claim into an argument.

Warranty

This model carries a 1-year factory warranty from Quincy. The warranty documentation shipped with the unit sets out what is covered and what registration is required; ask us if you want it in advance of ordering.

Whatever the fault, do not dismantle the pump, the motor or the starter before the claim is opened. An opened unit is extremely hard to warrant, however obvious the problem looked at the time. Call us first, keep every part you removed, and take photographs.
