Description

Quincy 473DS80HCB46 QT Pro — 7.5 HP, 80-Gallon Horizontal Two-Stage Air Compressor, 460V 3-Phase

This one exists for a specific building. If your plant is fed at the higher three-phase distribution voltage rather than at the level a small commercial unit gets, this is the version of the QT Pro 7.5 HP that belongs on your floor — a motor wound for 460V 3-Phase, on the same cast iron two-stage pump and the same 80-gallon horizontal receiver as its lower-voltage siblings, rated for a 100% duty cycle.

Buying the right one is not a preference. The winding is fixed at manufacture. A 460V machine on a lower supply will not develop its power and will trip or stall; a lower-voltage machine on 460V destroys itself immediately. Have the supply measured at the panel and matched to the nameplate before anything is ordered.

Two things to confirm with us first

We are not publishing an airflow figure for this build. The specification feed behind this page carries a delivered-air number for the pump family, but for this particular model it arrives without a unit attached, and a bare digit is not a rating. Its siblings on other voltages are documented cleanly and this one is not, which is exactly the situation in which a seller should say so rather than copy across the neighbour's number. Ask us and we will get the delivered air at pressure from Quincy in writing before you order. The maximum pressure of 175 PSI is solid.

The web address of this page carries a different code from the model number shown above, 473DS80HCB46, which is also what our specification record holds. Send us the number printed on your quote and we will match it to the build before anything ships.

What the higher supply voltage does for you

For the same work, a motor on a higher supply voltage draws proportionally less current. Less current means smaller conductors, smaller protection and less voltage drop over a long run from the panel to the machine — and in a large building, the run from the panel to the compressor room is frequently long. That is the whole practical argument, and it is an installation-cost argument rather than a performance one: the compressor itself does exactly the same job as the lower-voltage builds of the same pump.

What we will not do is print a current draw or a breaker size. Quincy's own sheet for this model says to consult a certified electrician, and there is a good reason for that: the correct protection depends on the starter, the conductor run and your local code, not on a number in a catalogue. A magnetic starter is supplied with the machine.

Built to run continuously, not to keep up

The 100% duty cycle rating is the specification that separates a machine like this from a hardware-store compressor with a similar sticker. There is no prescribed rest period. The design that makes that possible is entirely mechanical: a two-cylinder cast iron pump turning slowly on a belt drive, a finned tube intercooler between the stages that strips out the heat of first-stage compression before the second stage sees it, an aluminum head to shed what is left, and a large balanced cast iron flywheel that both smooths the firing pulses and drags cooling air across the assembly.

The details underneath are what make the hours: industrial-class bearings, graphite gaskets that keep sealing when hot, and stainless steel reed valves that resist the corrosion the condensate inevitably brings. Quincy quotes a pump service life in excess of 50,000 hours for this family. That number assumes the oil is changed and the intake filter is looked after — it is a design life, not a promise you can ignore.

Will it fit, and what does it need?

The receiver lies down, so the machine occupies a strip about 70" long and 23" wide and stands roughly 47" tall. That height is the reason people choose this layout: it goes under a mezzanine, under racking, and below a roller-door track, and it puts the belt guard, the sight glass and the drain at a height you can reach standing up.

It weighs about 740 lbs. Sound, level concrete, room around it for air to move, and no enclosing it in a sealed cupboard — heat is what shortens a compressor's life more than hours do. The tank outlet is 3/4". Confirming the supply, providing the circuit and disconnect, and providing a floor rated for the weight are the buyer's responsibility, and we would far rather answer questions before delivery than after.

Perfect For

  • Industrial plant and larger workshops fed at the higher three-phase voltage.
  • Manufacturing and fabrication where the compressor runs most of the shift.
  • Fleet, transit and municipal garages with a long cable run to the compressor room.
  • Any site replacing a worn unit on an existing high-voltage circuit.

What is in the box

The compressor complete: cast iron two-stage pump, finned tube intercooler, belt drive and guard, heavy-duty industrial motor, magnetic starter, gauges, oil sight glass and the 80-gallon horizontal tank. Not fitted on this build: air dryer, aftercooler and electronic drain valve. Piping, hose, point-of-use regulation and any air treatment are separate.

Certification, stated plainly

Quincy lists ASME for the pressure vessel and UL and CSA for the electrical components. The current product information on this page also states that the electrical components carry UL and CSA approvals, so the two sources agree. Those marks cover the tank and the electrics; they do not cover your installation, and they are not a substitute for an inspection of a pressure vessel in your building or for whatever your insurer requires. Check the requirement against the data plate before you buy, and we will supply what the manufacturer publishes.

Warranty

Cover is a 1-year factory warranty, extending to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty under Quincy's programme. That extension is conditional — registration of the unit, and on several models a maintenance kit bought at the same time — and we will put in writing exactly which conditions attach to this model before you order. If a failure occurs, leave the pump intact until the claim is agreed; a dismantled pump cannot be assessed and the claim usually dies with it.

Freight and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states, on a pallet. You need a forklift or pallet jack at the receiving end; if you have neither, terminal pickup with a trailer is straightforward and we will set it up. Delivery to a residential address is possible and carries a residential fee. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout.

Before the driver leaves, look the machine over — tank, guard, motor, gauges and pallet — and write any damage on the bill of lading. A clean signature is very difficult to argue with afterwards.
