A pump turning at 1,750 RPM and a 100% duty cycle rating are the same fact stated twice. Compressor pumps wear out through heat and friction, and both scale with speed. Spin a small pump fast and you can quote impressive output from a cheap machine — but it runs hot, it needs to stop and cool, and its duty cycle tells you so. Turn a large cast-iron pump slowly and it makes its air with less heat, less noise and less wear, which is precisely why this one carries a continuous 100% duty rating rather than a percentage that has to be managed. Slow and continuous is the expensive way to build a compressor and the cheap way to own one.

460V, and what it does to your installation cost

Quincy lists the amp draw for this build at 14 A. That is a small number for a 10 HP machine, and it is entirely down to the supply voltage. Current determines conductor size, conduit, breaker and disconnect, so a 460V installation is materially cheaper to wire than the same compressor on a lower-voltage supply. If your building already distributes 460V, this is the version to buy. If it does not, buy the version that matches the service you have rather than installing a transformer to feed one machine.

What continuous duty actually asks of the rest of the machine

A duty rating is only as good as the cooling behind it. Here that means a high-efficiency fin-and-tube intercooler between the two compression stages, so the second stage never has to work on hot air, and a mounted air-cooled aftercooler downstream of the pump that drops the discharge temperature before the air enters the receiver. The aftercooler has a second benefit worth as much as the first: cooling the air condenses its moisture at the machine, where a drain can take it, instead of in your shop piping. A compressor rated to run continuously will move a great deal of water over a shift, and where that water ends up is a design decision, not an accident.

Protection is straightforward and worth listing plainly: a magnetic starter with thermal overload for the motor, a low-oil shutdown for the pump, an oil sight glass so the level can be read without stopping anything, and a spin-on oil filter that turns an oil service into a short job.

Will It Fit?

• Footprint. 30" wide by 40" deep. The vertical receiver is what keeps a 120-gallon machine down to that.
• Height. 75" overall — the dimension to check first. Look at ceiling height, overhead services, lighting and door tracks above the spot you have in mind.
• Weight. 850 lbs over a small area. Level slab, and anchoring is strongly advisable on a tall machine.
• Power. 460V three-phase at a listed 14 A. Quincy publishes no breaker size and directs buyers to a certified electrician; conductor run, ambient conditions and local code decide it.
• Air outlet. 3/4" from the tank.
• Drainage. Plan it. A continuously running machine with an aftercooler produces condensate steadily, and the drain on a vertical receiver sits low.

The slab, levelling, anchoring, the feed, the disconnect, the air main and the condensate route are all the customer's responsibility, and the electrical work belongs to a licensed electrician.

No air dryer is fitted to this unit. Anchoring hardware, shop piping, filtration, regulators, disconnect and electrical feed are not included. Check the crate against its packing list on arrival.

Certification, Honestly

Our record lists the receiver against the ASME pressure-vessel code and lists CSA among the marks carried by this unit. Those are worth having and they are also worth reading precisely: a vessel code stamp certifies the construction and testing of the tank, not the assembly around it, and one mark is not a substitute for another. Where an insurer, a fleet policy or a local authority specifies a listing for permanently installed equipment, establish exactly which one and check it against this machine's data plate before purchase. We will look at the factory documentation with you if that helps.

Before You Order — Please Confirm

• Lubrication method. Published descriptions of the oil system differ: the package is marketed as fully pressure lubricated and the feature list agrees, while one specification field records it as splash lubricated. Ask us and we will confirm the lubrication method with the factory before you order.
• Automatic tank drain. Published records differ here too: the description and one specification record credit this unit with an electronic automatic tank drain, while another records none. On a machine rated to run continuously this is worth settling before you order, not after.
• Air delivery. No CFM figure is published above, because the figure available for this build carries no verifiable unit of measure and we will not repeat a sibling model's figure in its place. Contact us and we will supply the factory rating.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states, free of charge. The unit ships palletised at 850 lbs and stands tall, so a forklift, a dock or terminal pickup at the carrier's depot is required — two people and a tailgate is not a plan. A residential address carries a residential fee, added to the freight quote. Inspect before signing: tank shell, feet, guards, gauges and cooler, and put anything you find on the bill of lading with the driver present. Tall palletised freight takes knocks that flat freight does not, so this is worth doing properly.

Warranty

The unit carries a 1-year factory warranty, extending to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty on the terms in Quincy's warranty handbook. The handbook governs, and the extension has conditions attached — read them before you count on the longer period.

Finally, the advice we give on every machine of this kind: if a fault appears, call us before the pump is opened. A stripped unit is very often an unclaimable unit, and that is an avoidable way to turn a covered failure into an expensive one.
