Description
Quincy 553DS80VCA23 QP Pro — 5 HP Pressure Lubricated Two-Stage, 80 Gallon Vertical, 230V 3-Phase
The QP Pro line exists for one reason, and the manufacturer states it as a number: a fully pressure lubricated pump is claimed to give up to 15% longer life than a splash lubricated equivalent. That is the whole argument for this machine over the cheaper vertical sitting next to it in the catalogue. A gerotor positive displacement oil pump feeds oil under pressure to the crankshaft, the bearings and the rods, and a spin-on filter keeps that oil clean on the way. Nothing is left to a dipper and gravity.
The package is a 5 HP motor on 230V 3-Phase supply, an 80 gallon vertical ASME receiver, cast iron cylinders with aluminium heads and a factory magnetic starter.
One thing to check with us first
The part number. Two model codes are attached to this listing. The product title and the specification record both read 553DS80VCA23; the web address of this page reads 353DS80VCA23. The live part number is worth settling in writing, because a wrong code on a purchase order becomes a wrong machine on a truck. Send us the code from your quote before you order and we will confirm the exact build with the manufacturer.
No air delivery figure is printed on this page either. Published figures differ between the specification record and the summary text supplied with this listing, and CFM is the number people size a whole compressed air system around. Ask us before you order and we will get you the manufacturer's rated delivery at your working pressure in writing.
Will it fit, and can you feed it?
Vertical tanks buy floor space at the cost of headroom, and this one needs 74" of clear height plus room above for the pump and for you to get at the oil fill. On the floor it takes 37" by 24", and the assembled weight is 680 lb, which is worth knowing before you plan a route across a tiled showroom floor or over a threshold.
Power is 230V 3-Phase. The specification record does not state a breaker size and instead says to consult a certified electrician — correct advice, because the right protective device depends on the cable run, the ambient temperature and the rest of the load on that board. If your building only has single-phase power, this is not the machine for you and we will happily point you at the single-phase version of the same size instead.
Checking ceiling height, access, floor loading and the incoming supply is the buyer's responsibility. Ask us anything, but we cannot survey your building from here.
What pressure lubrication actually changes
Every compressor pump has to get oil onto the same handful of surfaces: the main bearings, the big ends, the wrist pins and the cylinder walls. A splash system does that with a dipper that throws oil upward as the crank turns. It is simple and it is fine, until the machine runs hot, runs at an angle, runs on a cold start, or simply runs for years.
A gerotor pump removes the variable. It moves a fixed volume of oil per revolution, at pressure, through drilled galleries straight to the surfaces that need it. Oil arrives at the same rate whether the pump is cold or at working temperature. That is what sits behind the manufacturer's claim of up to 15% longer life, and it is why this pump is specified for continuous, smooth running rather than intermittent duty.
Cooling, sealing and balance
Between the two compression stages there is a high-efficiency fin and tube intercooler holding tight tolerances. It drops the interstage air temperature so the second stage never has to squeeze hot gas, which lowers the discharge temperature, cuts the work the motor does and extends valve life measurably. The reed valves themselves are stainless steel with valve bumpers, so they resist corrosion and their lift is controlled rather than left to slam.
Graphite cylinder and head gaskets hold their seal through those heat cycles, and the cast iron flywheel is electronically balanced — a balanced flywheel is not a vanity item on a machine bolted to a shop floor, it is the difference between a compressor you can hold a conversation next to and one that walks its feet loose.
Note one thing this model does not have: there is no aftercooler on this build. Air leaves the tank warm and wet, and moisture removal is a job for your downstream filtration and dryer. If you are feeding a paint booth, budget for that separately and ask us to spec it.
Perfect For
- Three-phase workshops running long shifts, where the pressure lubricated pump earns back its premium in hours.
- Automotive service floors with several bays drawing at once.
- Light manufacturing and assembly lines needing a steady 175 PSI supply.
- Shops with limited floor area and the ceiling height to go vertical.
What's in the Box
The complete compressor package: pressure lubricated two-stage pump, spin-on oil filter, gerotor oil pump, cast iron cylinders and balanced flywheel, fin and tube intercooler, 5 HP motor, magnetic starter and the 80 gallon vertical receiver. Not included: an air dryer, filtration, piping, hose and the electrical installation. We can quote any of those alongside the machine.

Certification, stated plainly
Our certification field for this product names ASME, UL and CSA. We will repeat that and no more. Those are receiver and component level claims; our data holds no third-party safety listing covering the assembled machine, and the two are not interchangeable documents. Where an insurer, a local authority or a corporate standard asks for a listing on the complete unit, tell us before ordering and we will ask the manufacturer for the certificate instead of assuring you it exists.
Shipping and Delivery
Shipped by freight within the lower 48. Your rate is calculated live at checkout for your postcode, so nothing is estimated. Someone at your end has to be able to take 680 lb off a truck — forklift, dock, or collect it from the freight terminal yourself, which is frequently the least painful option. A residential address attracts a residential fee.
Do the inspection while the driver is still there. Crating, tank, gauges, the motor shroud. Write any damage onto the bill of lading before you sign; a clean signature is treated as confirmation that the machine arrived perfect.
Warranty
A 1 year factory warranty applies, extending to Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" cover. The manufacturer requires the EWK-6 maintenance kit to be purchased with the compressor and the unit to be registered at www.quincycompressor.com; the extended cover then includes on-site and labour service. The warranty documentation is on the manual tab of this listing. Because the kit cannot be added later, mention it while you are ordering.
If a fault develops, do not strip the pump before the claim is open. Diagnosis by disassembly is the single most common way a valid claim gets refused.
