Description

Quincy 553DS80VCA46 QP Pro — 5 HP Two-Stage, 80 Gallon Vertical, 460V 3-Phase

Start with the voltage, because on this listing it is the only thing that can go badly wrong. This build is wired for 460V 3-Phase. It is not a dual-voltage machine and it is not field-convertible on a whim; if your distribution board delivers a lower three-phase voltage, the identically named compressor in the matching voltage is the one you want, and we will swap you across before the order goes out. Buildings with 460V distribution — older industrial plants, larger fabrication shops, anywhere with big motors already installed — get a real benefit: the higher the supply voltage, the lower the current for the same work, so conductors, contactors and protective devices are smaller and cheaper on a long run.

Under the paint it is Quincy's QP Pro pump: fully pressure lubricated, cast iron cylinders, aluminium heads, 5 HP motor, an 80 gallon vertical ASME receiver and a factory magnetic starter.

Please confirm the part number with us

This listing carries two model codes. The title and specification block read 553DS80VCA46; the page's own web address reads 353DS80VCA46. On a three-phase machine the part number encodes the voltage, so this is not a typographical curiosity — it is the field most worth getting right. Send us the code from your quotation or purchase order before you order and we will have the manufacturer confirm the build, the voltage and the starter before anything ships.

You will also notice no air delivery figure below. Published figures for it differ, and CFM is what a compressed air system is designed around, so ask us before you order and we will hand you the manufacturer's rated delivery at your working pressure in writing.

Siting and supply

Upright tank, so plan for height: 74" of clear space, plus enough above and around for the pump, the oil fill and a spanner. The base occupies 37" by 24", and the machine weighs 680 lb, which is a genuine consideration for the route in as well as the final position.

On the electrical side, our record deliberately does not name a breaker size — it says consult a certified electrician. That is the right answer at 460V in particular, where the protective device, the disconnect and the conductor sizing all depend on the run length and what shares the board. Have that priced before delivery day, not after.

Ceiling height, doorways, floor loading, ventilation and the supply itself remain the buyer's responsibility to verify. We will talk any of it through, but the survey is yours.

The pump: oil under pressure, not oil thrown around

QP Pro machines are built around a gerotor positive displacement oil pump. Rather than a dipper flinging oil up from the sump, the pump moves a measured volume every revolution and pushes it through drilled passages to the crankshaft, the bearings and the rods. A spin-on filter cleans the oil on the way, which is the half of bearing life that pressure alone does not fix. The manufacturer's stated result is up to 15% longer life than a splash lubricated unit, and the design intent is smooth, continuous running rather than short bursts.

That matters most in exactly the buildings that have 460V: places where the compressor is expected to be part of the plant, not an appliance, and where a pump rebuild costs a shift of production as well as the parts.

Heat, valves and vibration

A fin and tube intercooler sits between the compression stages, cooling the air before it reaches the second stage. Compressing cooler air takes less work and produces a lower discharge temperature, and lower temperatures are what keep valves alive. Those valves are stainless steel reeds with bumpers controlling their lift, so they neither corrode nor hammer themselves flat.

Sealing is by graphite cylinder and head gaskets, which hold up through repeated heat cycling far better than paper. The cast iron flywheel is electronically balanced and fan shaped, so it does two jobs at once: it smooths the pulses from a two-cylinder pump, and it drives cooling air across the intercooler, cylinders and heads.

Be aware of what is absent. This model has no aftercooler. Air leaves the receiver warm and carrying moisture, so any drying has to happen downstream. If the air is going anywhere near paint, instruments or a plasma table, plan filtration and a dryer into the budget and let us quote them with the machine.

Perfect For

  • Industrial plants already distributing 460V 3-Phase and adding shop air.
  • Fabrication and machine shops running long, steady demand rather than short peaks.
  • Multi-bay service operations where downtime costs more than the pump did.
  • Any building with a long cable run to the compressor location, where higher voltage keeps the installation cost down.

What's in the Box

One complete compressor: pressure lubricated two-stage pump with gerotor oil pump and spin-on filter, cast iron cylinders, balanced flywheel, fin and tube intercooler, 5 HP motor, magnetic starter, and the 80 gallon vertical tank. Dryers, filters, pipework, hose and the electrical installation are separate — ask and we will quote them together.

Certification, stated plainly

The certification field on this product reads ASME, UL and CSA, and that is the extent of what we will claim. Those cover the receiver and the electrical components. We hold no third-party safety listing for the assembled machine, and it would be dishonest to let a component approval stand in for one. If a plant standard, an inspector or your insurer wants a listing on the complete unit, raise it with us before you order and we will go and ask the manufacturer for the document.

Shipping and Delivery

This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Plan the unload before the truck arrives: 680 lb needs a forklift or a dock, and if you have neither, collecting from the carrier's terminal is usually simpler and quicker than booking a residential delivery, which carries a residential fee.

When it lands, inspect it in front of the driver. Look past the shrink wrap at the tank, the gauges and the starter enclosure, and record anything questionable on the bill of lading before signing. Once the paperwork is signed clean, the carrier's position is that it arrived undamaged.

Warranty

The machine carries a 1 year factory warranty. Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" extension is available where the EWK-6 maintenance kit is bought at the time of purchase and the unit is registered at www.quincycompressor.com, and it brings on-site and labour service with it. Full terms are in the warranty document on the manual tab. The kit cannot be added afterwards, so decide while you order.

If something fails, log the claim before anyone reaches for a spanner. A pump that has been opened is, in almost every case, a pump that is no longer covered.

Return policy

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.
