Description

Quincy 573DS80VCA23 QP Pro 7.5 HP, 80-Gallon Pressure Lubricated Two-Stage Air Compressor (230V, 3-Phase)

Here is the specification worth buying this machine for, and it is an unglamorous one: a spin-on oil filter. The QP Pro is pressure lubricated by a gerotor oil pump, and once you have pressurised oil moving through a circuit, you can filter it. That turns compressor maintenance into something a technician already knows how to do, and it stops wear metal from circulating through the bearings until the next drain interval. Quincy pairs the arrangement with a claim of up to 15% longer life than a splash-lubricated unit.

This is the 230V three-phase build of the QP Pro, on an 80-gallon vertical receiver, running a two-stage cast-iron pump to 175 PSI.

Maintenance You Can Actually Keep Up With

Most compressors get neglected for a predictable reason: the maintenance is awkward, so it slips. Draining a crankcase, cleaning a screen and refilling by guesswork is a job nobody schedules. Changing a spin-on filter and topping up against a sight glass is a five-minute task on a checklist.

An oil sight glass is fitted, so the level is a glance rather than a dipstick and a rag, and a low level is visible to whoever walks past rather than to whoever last did an inspection. Between the filter and the glass, the two most common causes of premature pump death, dirty oil and low oil, become things you notice.

How the Oil Gets Where It Needs to Be

The gerotor pump is a positive displacement design driven off the crankshaft, so it delivers a fixed volume of oil per revolution to the crankshaft, bearings and rods. Compare that with splash lubrication, where a dipper throws oil upward and distribution depends on level, angle and speed. Under a long duty cycle the difference shows up as bearing temperature, and bearing temperature is what decides whether a pump reaches its rated service life.

That circuit is the reason a pressure-lubricated compressor tolerates being asked to run for extended periods. It is also why the filter exists at all, and why this machine is specified in shops where the compressor cannot be the thing that stops work.

Valves, Gaskets and the Cooling Path

Reed valves are stainless steel with valve bumpers that control how far each reed lifts, because uncontrolled lift is what fatigues and cracks a reed. Stainless also resists the corrosion that condensate drives, which is a real failure mode in a humid shop. The cylinder and head gaskets are graphite, holding their seal through the heat cycling a two-stage pump goes through every start and stop.

Cast-iron cylinders feed a high-efficiency fin and tube intercooler, and an electronically balanced fan-type cast-iron flywheel pushes cooling air across the intercooler, cylinders and heads. Interstage cooling is what makes a two-stage machine efficient rather than merely complicated: the second stage receives dense, cooled air instead of hot, expanded air, so it reaches 175 PSI with less work and drops much of the moisture out before the tank.

Will It Fit?

Vertical tank, small footprint, considerable height. Allow 37" by 24" on the floor and 74" of clearance, and add headroom above that for belt and head access. The machine weighs 720 lbs and wants a flat, level, load-bearing slab.

Power is 230V three-phase. It is hard-wired, not plugged in, and it is not interchangeable with the other voltage builds of this same compressor. A magnetic starter is included. Quincy directs the breaker selection to a certified electrician rather than publishing a figure, since the right device depends on conductors, distance and code. Verify your service at the panel, and treat electrical supply, siting and permits as the customer's responsibility.

Perfect For

  • Established repair shops on a 230V three-phase service that run air all day.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops with a scheduled preventive maintenance programme.
  • Machine shops and fabricators who would rather change a filter than rebuild a pump.
  • Buyers replacing a splash-lubricated compressor that did not survive its workload.

What's in the Box

The compressor arrives complete on its tank: pressure-lubricated two-stage cast-iron pump, gerotor oil pump, spin-on oil filter, oil sight glass, 7.5 HP motor with belt drive and guard, fin and tube intercooler, cast-iron flywheel, magnetic starter, and the 80-gallon vertical receiver. Distribution piping, a disconnect, air treatment and downstream filtration are not supplied.

Certification, Honestly

Quincy's data for this unit lists an ASME marking on the receiver and a CSA marking with it. Those are two different certifications answering two different questions, and it is worth being clear about which is which: the pressure vessel certification concerns the tank's construction and inspection under a pressure vessel code, while the electrical marking concerns the motor and controls. One does not stand in for the other, and neither describes your installation.

Check the data plate on the machine itself once it arrives. That plate, not a web page, is what an inspector, an insurer or a safety officer will read. If a specific listing is required by your local code, your lease or your insurance, confirm it against the plate before the unit is wired in.

Shipping and Delivery

Ships by freight carrier within the lower 48 states. It weighs 720 lbs and travels standing on a pallet, which means a forklift, a loading dock, or a pickup you have arranged at the freight terminal. A residential delivery carries a residential fee.

Do the inspection while the driver waits. Tall crates take knocks: check the shroud and guards, check that the tank has not shifted in its bracing, look for oil on the pallet, and note every mark on the bill of lading before signing. Damage discovered after a clean signature is very hard to recover.

Warranty

The machine is covered by a 1-year factory warranty, which Quincy extends to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty when its conditions are met. Those conditions are handled at purchase, generally requiring the matching maintenance kit to be bought at the same time and the compressor to be registered with the manufacturer. The supplied warranty documentation holds the definitive terms.

Do not disassemble the pump, motor or starter before a claim has been raised and inspection arranged. It is the fastest route to having a good claim turned down.
