Almost every shop compressor at this capacity stands upright. This one lies down. The QT Pro 4103DS12HCB23 mounts its pump and motor on a horizontal 120-gallon receiver, and the result is a machine that measures 78" long, 28" wide and only 55" tall. That height is the whole argument for it: a 120-gallon vertical tank needs serious headroom, while this one slides under a mezzanine, a storage rack, a hoist beam or the low ceiling of a converted garage bay. If you have wall length but no vertical clearance, the tank orientation is the reason to shortlist this model over a taller one of identical output.
The machine itself is conventional industrial equipment in the good sense: a splash-lubricated cast-iron two-stage pump, belt driven from a 230V three-phase motor turning at 1,750 RPM, with a rated pump life of 50,000 hours or more. Nothing about it is clever. It is built to run every working day for a very long time.
Why 1,750 RPM Matters More Than the Horsepower Figure
Two compressors can both claim 10 HP and wear out on completely different schedules, because the number that kills a pump is not power, it is speed. Direct-drive consumer units spin their pumps at motor speed and rely on the duty cycle staying low. This one is belt driven and turns at 1,750 RPM, which keeps piston speed down, keeps bearing loads gentle and keeps the oil cool enough to stay oil. Lower running temperature is what preserves rings, valves and gaskets, and it is also why a slow pump is noticeably less unpleasant to stand next to for an eight-hour shift.
Lubrication is splash type, drawing from an extra-capacity oil reserve. A larger sump means the oil is asked to do less work per gallon of air: it takes longer to heat up, longer to shear down and longer to reach the point where it needs changing. Combined with the cast-iron cylinders and an aluminium head, that is the package Quincy rates for a 50,000 hour service life.
Two Stages and the Intercooler Between Them
A two-stage pump compresses air in two bites. The large first-stage cylinder does the coarse work, then the air passes through a high-efficiency finned intercooler before the small second-stage cylinder finishes the job up to 175 PSI. That intercooler is not a detail. Air leaving the first stage is hot, and hot air is bulky, so a second stage fed hot air has to work harder for the same pressure. Cooling it first raises efficiency and drops a large share of the water content out of the stream before it ever reaches the tank, which is exactly the moisture that would otherwise sit in your lines and rust your tooling.
Starter, Rods and Tank Safety
A magnetic starter is fitted as standard, and on a three-phase machine that matters twice over. It gives the motor thermal overload protection, so a stalled or overloaded motor trips rather than cooks, and it means the compressor restarts under contactor control instead of slamming across the line. The connecting rods are a two-piece design; fewer parts in the reciprocating assembly is fewer things to loosen, and it makes a rebuild a realistic job rather than a scrap decision.
The receiver is an ASME certified tank fitted with a pressure relief valve and a discharge connection. Tank outlet is 1", which is worth knowing before you buy pipe: undersized shop piping will throttle a compressor of this output no matter how good the pump is.
Will It Fit?
Plan for a footprint of 78" by 28" and a height of 55", plus working room at both ends for the drain, the outlet and the belt guard. The unit weighs 850 lbs, so it wants a flat, level, load-bearing floor and it is not something you reposition on a whim.
Power is the part that catches people out. This is the 230V three-phase version. It will not run on single-phase service, and it is not the same machine as the higher-voltage variant. Quincy does not publish a fixed breaker size for it and instead directs you to a certified electrician, which is the honest answer, because the correct overcurrent device depends on your feeder length, conductor sizing and local code. Confirm your available service and have the circuit specified before the compressor arrives. Site preparation, electrical supply and permitting are the customer's responsibility.

Certification, Honestly
The receiver is an ASME certified pressure vessel, and that is the certification that matters most on a tank of this size. The manufacturer's data also lists a CSA marking alongside it. Read those as two separate documents covering two separate things: a pressure vessel certification says the tank was built and inspected to a boiler and pressure vessel code, while an electrical safety marking covers the motor and control side. Neither one is a statement about the other.
Always verify the markings on the unit's own data plate when it arrives, because that plate is the document your inspector, insurer or plant safety officer will actually look at. If your jurisdiction, your insurance policy or your employer's standard requires a specific listing, confirm the requirement against the plate before installation rather than after.
Shipping and Delivery
This compressor ships by freight carrier to the lower 48 states. At 850 lbs on a pallet it is not a parcel and it will not come on a van, so you need a forklift, a loading dock or an arranged terminal pickup to take it off the truck. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee.
Inspect the shipment before you sign. Walk the crate, look for punctured cardboard, bent guards, oil on the pallet and a tank that has shifted in its bracing, and write any damage you find on the bill of lading before the driver leaves. A signed clean bill of lading makes a freight damage claim very difficult to pursue afterwards.
Warranty
The compressor carries a 1-year factory warranty, which Quincy extends to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty when the qualifying conditions are met. Those conditions are set by the manufacturer and typically involve buying the matching maintenance kit at the time of purchase and registering the unit with Quincy, so handle both at the point of sale rather than later.
One warning that applies to every warranty claim on equipment like this: do not disassemble the pump, the motor or the starter before the claim is filed. A unit that has already been opened is very often declined, and photographs of a sealed machine are worth more to your claim than any amount of diagnosis you do yourself.
