One more thing worth knowing while we are here: no low oil shutdown is fitted on this build, though several vertical models in the same family do have one. It does not make this a lesser machine, but it does mean the oil sight glass is there to be used — put a check on the maintenance schedule and keep it.

Will it fit, and will your panel take it?

Horizontal machines trade floor area for headroom, and that is the entire argument. A duty cycle rating describes how much of an hour a compressor may spend compressing. A machine rated at half duty is designed to rest; run it continuously and you are outside its design envelope, whatever it says on the tank. A 100% duty rating means the machine can run continuously without a required off period.

That matters if your demand is steady rather than peaky — a spray booth partway through a job, a blast cabinet, a production line, a busy tyre bay in the summer. It is also why the pump is built the way it is: cast iron cylinders holding tolerance when hot, industrial-class bearings, a balanced counter-weighted crankshaft and a large fan-shaped cast iron flywheel angled to drive cooling air over the pump. Graphite cylinder and head gaskets keep the seal through heat cycles, and two-piece connecting rods keep the number of moving parts down.

The motor is a capacitor start industrial unit with built-in thermal overload, running at a lower speed than a general-purpose motor of the same rating. Slower means cooler, quieter and cheaper to run, and it is the reason a machine like this can be asked to work all day without complaint.

The current copy states UL and CSA approval on the electrical components, our certification field adds ASME for the receiver, and the copy describes the machine as built in the U.S.A. Those are the claims the data carries and we will make no others. What we do not hold is a third-party safety listing for the completed machine as an assembly — a different document from a component approval, covering different ground. If an insurer, an inspector or a corporate standard requires that, raise it with us before you order and we will ask the manufacturer for the certificate rather than assume one exists.

Shipping and Delivery

Shipped freight within the lower 48, priced live at checkout for the address you enter. At 740 lb, and 70" long, this is a proper freight item: arrange a forklift or a dock, or collect from the carrier's terminal, which many customers find quicker than scheduling a delivery window. Residential addresses carry a residential fee.

Inspect the shipment while the driver is still on site. Check the crating, the length of the tank shell, the gauges and the starter enclosure, and note any damage on the bill of lading before you sign. Once a clean receipt is signed, the carrier's position is that the machine arrived in perfect condition.

Warranty

A 1 year factory warranty applies. Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" extension requires the EWK-3 maintenance kit to be purchased with the compressor and the unit to be registered at www.quincycompressor.com, and it brings on-site and labour service with it; the warranty document is on the manual tab of this listing. The kit cannot be added later, so mention it while ordering.

If a failure occurs, contact us and open the claim before anything is dismantled. A pump that has already been taken apart is, in practice, a pump that is no longer covered.
