Quincy 571CS80VCA QP Pro 7.5 HP, 80-Gallon Pressure Lubricated Two-Stage Air Compressor (230V, 1-Phase)

This is the one you can actually power. The QP Pro family is otherwise three-phase, which rules it out for most independent shops, home garages and leased units that never had three-phase brought to the building. The 571CS80VCA is the 230V, 1-phase build, and it puts a pressure-lubricated, gerotor-fed industrial pump on a supply an ordinary electrician can deliver.

Quincy is also unusually specific about what that supply has to be. Across the rest of this family the published breaker requirement is "consult a certified electrician". For this single-phase unit the manufacturer names a figure: an 80-amp breaker. That is a number worth taking seriously before you buy, because it is a substantial circuit and not every panel has the capacity spare.

Check Your Panel First

Single-phase motors draw considerably more current than three-phase motors of the same output, which is exactly why the breaker requirement is what it is. Before ordering, work out three things with your electrician: whether the panel has an 80-amp breaker position free, whether the service entrance and busbar can carry the additional load alongside everything else in the building, and what conductor size the run from the panel to the compressor needs over its actual length.

If the answer is that the panel needs upgrading, that is far better discovered now than on the day a 720 lbs machine arrives on a pallet. This is hard-wired equipment fitted by a licensed electrician; site preparation, the circuit and any permits are the customer's responsibility. A magnetic starter is supplied with the compressor, providing thermal overload protection for the motor.

Industrial Lubrication on a Single-Phase Supply

The reason to go to the trouble is what the pump is. A gerotor positive displacement oil pump, driven from the crankshaft, feeds pressurised oil to the crankshaft, bearings and rods on every revolution, rather than relying on a dipper to throw oil around the crankcase and hope. Quincy states the benefit as up to 15% longer life than a splash-lubricated unit. A spin-on oil filter sits in the same circuit and captures wear metal continuously, and an oil sight glass makes the level a glance instead of a job.

Very little else on a single-phase supply is built this way. Most 7.5 HP single-phase compressors are splash lubricated, which is fine in short bursts and marginal under sustained load. This one is specified to be run.

Two Stages, and the Cooling Between Them

The pump is cast iron with an aluminium head, belt driven, and it compresses in two steps to a ceiling of 175 PSI. Between the low-pressure and high-pressure cylinders the charge passes through a high-efficiency fin and tube intercooler, with an electronically balanced fan-type cast-iron flywheel driving cooling air across the intercooler, cylinders and heads.

That interstage cooling is not decoration. Hot air is expanded air, so a second stage fed uncooled air burns power moving heat rather than making pressure. Cooling first raises efficiency and condenses out a large share of the moisture before it can reach the receiver, which is the water that otherwise ends up in your lines, your tools and your paint.

Valves and Gaskets

Reed valves are stainless steel and run against valve bumpers that limit lift. Reeds fail from uncontrolled lift and from corrosion, so those two choices address both. The cylinder and head gaskets are graphite, chosen because they keep sealing through the heat cycling a compressor imposes on the joint every time it starts, loads and stops.

Will It Fit?

The 80-gallon receiver is vertical, so it takes 37" by 24" of floor and 74" of height, and weighs 720 lbs. Measure the ceiling, then add clearance above for head and belt access. It needs a flat, level, load-bearing slab, and enough room at the base to reach the drain without lying on the floor.

Certification, Honestly

Quincy's data for this compressor lists an ASME marking on the receiver and a CSA marking alongside it. They cover different ground and should not be read as one endorsement: the pressure vessel certification concerns the tank's construction and inspection under a pressure vessel code, while the electrical marking concerns the motor and control equipment. Neither addresses your circuit, your panel or your installation.

That distinction matters more on this model than on its three-phase siblings, precisely because the electrical demand is higher. Verify the markings on the unit's own data plate when it arrives, and have the installation signed off by whoever your jurisdiction, insurer or landlord requires. Where a specific listing is a condition of cover, check it against the plate before the machine is connected.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight carrier, lower 48 states. At 720 lbs on a pallet this is not a parcel delivery: you need a forklift, a dock, or a terminal pickup arranged ahead of time. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, which is worth budgeting for given how many buyers of the single-phase version are having it delivered to a home shop.

Inspect it before you sign for it. Look for damaged guards, a tank that has shifted against its bracing and oil on the pallet, and write every finding on the bill of lading in front of the driver. Once you have signed clean, recovering transit damage is largely down to goodwill.

Warranty

The compressor is covered by a 1-year factory warranty, extending to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty when Quincy's conditions are satisfied. Those conditions are set at the point of sale and generally require the matching maintenance kit to be purchased with the compressor and the unit to be registered with the manufacturer, so handle both at the time of order. The warranty documentation supplied with the machine carries the full terms.

If something goes wrong, open the claim before you open the pump. Equipment that has been disassembled before inspection is routinely declined, no matter how obvious the fault was.
