Wheel weight clips are not universal, and they were never meant to be. Fit a clip cut for one flange profile onto another and one of two things happens: it will not seat at all, or, worse, it seats loosely and comes off somewhere on a motorway.

Seat the clip squarely on the flange rather than at an angle, then set it with a proper wheel-weight hammer or clip tool — not with whatever is nearest on the bench. The aim is a clip that is fully home along its length, with no gap between the clip and the flange at either end. A weight that is only half seated is the one that leaves.

Once the correction is on, spin the wheel again and confirm the machine agrees with you. That final check is what catches a weight that has shifted during fitting, and it takes a few seconds. When you remove old weights, take the opportunity to clean the flange: built-up brake dust and old adhesive under a clip stops it bearing properly.
