Description

A tire bay in one order: R745 changer, DST30P balancer, and the weights to run them

The reason this is sold as a package rather than three line items is the third item. Shops that buy a changer and a balancer almost always discover on commissioning day that they cannot balance anything, because the wheel weights are on a separate order from a separate supplier. This package includes a bulk supply of adhesive steel tape weights — 1,400 pieces of them — so the bay works the day it is installed rather than the day the weight order lands.

The two machines are chosen to match each other rather than to impress separately. The R745 changer covers ordinary passenger work, and the DST30P balancer is built around speed: it calculates the minimum weight adjustment for a clean balance in about six seconds.

The R745: an entry-level changer that knows what it is

There is a real difference between a machine that is cheap and a machine that is scoped. The R745 is scoped. It is a swing-arm tire changer with a 21" capacity, built for rapid wheel service on ordinary passenger wheels, spare tires and trailer tires — the work that makes up the overwhelming majority of a general repair shop's tire volume.

What that means in practice is that it does the routine job quickly and does not carry the cost of features aimed at run-flats and stiff low-profile sidewalls. If your work is commuter cars, light trailers and seasonal changeovers, those features would sit unused while you paid for them. If your work is regularly large-diameter performance fitments with sidewalls that fight back, this is not the machine for that, and it is better to know that here than in the bay.

The swing-arm layout is part of the same logic. The arm moves aside to clear the wheel instead of requiring clearance for a tilting mechanism, which keeps the machine's working envelope tight — useful when the changer is going into a bay that already has a job to do.

The DST30P: speed measured in floor-to-floor time

Balancer specifications are usually quoted as accuracy. The number that actually governs a shop's throughput is floor-to-floor time — wheel on, spin, weight placed, wheel off — and that is what the DST30P is designed around. It reads the assembly and calculates the minimum weight adjustment needed for a clean balance in roughly six seconds.

Two consequences follow, and the second is the one that compounds. The obvious one is throughput: on a four-wheel balance, seconds saved per spin become minutes saved per car and hours across a week. The less obvious one is the phrase "minimum weight adjustment". A balancer that consistently asks for less weight is a balancer that costs you less in consumables, leaves less mass hanging on the customer's wheel, and produces a tidier result on an alloy where every additional weight is visible. Chasing a balance by adding weight until the display goes quiet is the habit this machine is built to make unnecessary.

The shaft is 40 mm. That is the figure to check against any adapters, cones or flanges you already own, because a mismatched shaft diameter is the one incompatibility that cannot be worked around.

The weights, and why 1,400 of them is the right quantity

The package includes a combination of black and silver Quick-Peel adhesive steel tape weights on rolls: 1,400 pieces at 0.25 oz each, 1/2" wide, 22 lbs. of weights in total. Both finishes are supplied because the right one depends on the wheel — silver disappears on a bare or machined alloy, black disappears on a painted or dark-finish wheel, and a weight the customer cannot see is a weight nobody complains about.

Steel rather than lead is worth a sentence of its own. Lead wheel weights are restricted or banned in a growing list of jurisdictions and are an environmental liability wherever they are still legal, because they end up on roadsides. Steel avoids that entirely. And adhesive tape weights let you use only as much mass as the balance calls for, placed exactly where it belongs, instead of stepping up to the next available clip-on size.

Perfect for

  • General repair shops adding tire service, where tire work supports the main business rather than being it.
  • Rural and small-town garages handling passenger cars, spares and trailer tires as everyday work.
  • Seasonal changeover work — winter and summer sets on ordinary passenger wheels.
  • New shops fitting out a bay, where buying changer, balancer and consumables together removes three decisions and one delay.

Before you order

Two checks, both quick. First, the electrical supply: confirm with us the exact configuration each machine ships in and have your electrician confirm the outlets are where the machines will stand, because a package arriving into a bay with one usable socket is a package that waits. Second, the shaft: if you already own cones, flanges or adapters, check them against the balancer's 40 mm shaft before ordering rather than after. Both of those are the buyer's responsibility and both take one phone call.

Certification and compliance, stated honestly

The product data we hold for this package claims no third-party safety listing for either machine, and we are not going to imply one. Some insurers, fleet contracts and local jurisdictions require shop equipment carrying an independent test-house listing — a document issued by an outside laboratory, which is a different thing from a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity. If that is a box you have to tick, check exactly what wording your paperwork uses before you order, and ask us if you want help matching a requirement to a machine.

Shipping and delivery

This package ships as freight within the lower 48 states, and it is more than one crate — a changer, a balancer and a carton of weights. Unloading is arranged at your end: a forklift, a loading dock with a pallet jack, or a collection you make from the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery is a different service from a commercial dock and carries a residential fee, which checkout quotes live at the time you order. Check the crate count against the paperwork before you sign, inspect for damage, and write anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. On a multi-crate delivery the commonest problem is not damage, it is a missing crate, and that is only easy to resolve if the count was checked at the kerb.

Warranty

Coverage follows the manufacturer's published warranty documents for these products, and we will send you the current versions before you order if you ask. Do not dismantle a pneumatic cylinder on the changer or open the balancer's shaft or sensor housing to investigate a fault before a claim is raised. Stripping the component removes the evidence a claim is assessed on and usually ends the coverage on the exact part you were trying to save.
