Description

Ranger RFJ-3000AL 1.5-Ton Aluminum Racing Floor Jack

Ranger RFJ-3000AL: the 41 lbs billet jack built for people who carry it more than they use it

A pit crew, a track-day driver and a mobile tech all have the same problem — the jack has to travel. The RFJ-3000AL is Ranger's answer at the light end of the range: aircraft-grade billet aluminum, rated 3,000 lbs (1.5 tons), and light enough that moving it is a one-handed job rather than a chore you plan around. The current listing puts the jack itself at about 41 lbs, and that figure, not the capacity, is what decides whether it lives in your trailer or stays in the shop.

It is the smaller sibling of Ranger's larger aluminum racing jack, and the trade is deliberate: less capacity, less mass to lift into a vehicle, and the same low nose that gets under a car with an aggressive front lip.

Will It Fit Under Your Car?

Three measurements decide this, and all three are published.

  • Entry height 3.5" (89 mm). That is the top of the pad with the jack fully collapsed. Measure the clearance at the jacking point you actually intend to use — on a lowered car the pinch weld is usually lower than the sills or the splitter.
  • Maximum lift 17.5" (445 mm). Enough travel to bring a wheel clear of the floor and get rated stands underneath before anyone reaches in.
  • Footprint 24" (610 mm) long by 11.5" (292 mm) wide. A narrow chassis is easier to place between a wheel and a garage wall, and it is the reason this jack fits in a corner of a trailer rather than needing its own bay.

Surface matters as much as clearance. The jack has to roll toward the car as the arm sweeps up, so it needs flat, solid, level ground — assessing the floor, the slope and the surface is the customer's call before lifting, and no jack specification can do it for you.

Check which weight figure you need before you order

Two weights are published for this jack and they describe different things. The specification table gives a shipping weight of 46 lbs. (20 kg), which is the packed carton; the product listing describes the jack itself as approximately 41 lbs. A gap of that size is what packaging normally accounts for, and the two figures come from separate sources. If the bare weight is decisive for you — a weight limit in a race trailer, a shipping allowance, a lifting restriction at work — confirm the net figure with us in writing before you order and we will get it straight from Ranger.

Speed, and where it comes from

Rapid lift on this jack is not a marketing adjective, it is a pump design. A dual-plunger assembly with roller-cam plungers moves more fluid per stroke and loses less of your effort to friction, so the saddle meets the vehicle in a handful of pulls instead of a long series of them. When a jack is being used between sessions, or against a customer waiting in the lobby, that difference is the whole reason to own this one.

The release is a universal-joint design rather than a simple on-off valve. The value of that is control on descent: a U-joint release lets the operator feed the vehicle down at a chosen speed and stop it partway, which is how you set a car onto stands without a bang. Sudden descent is the failure mode that damages sills and startles the person crouched beside the car.

Aluminum, sealed hydraulics, and long service life

Billet aluminum is chosen here for mass, but its second job is corrosion. Trailer floors, wet paddocks and salted winter roads are hard on steel; an aluminum chassis simply does not care. The ram is alloy plated because it is the wear surface the seals ride on, and the hydraulics are double sealed so that airborne grit and moisture stay outside the system. A sealed unit is a low-maintenance unit — you inspect for seepage rather than routinely servicing it.

A built-in safety overload valve limits what the jack will attempt. It is not a licence to guess at vehicle weight; it is the backstop that prevents an over-capacity lift from becoming a structural event. Use the vehicle's published weight and its manufacturer-specified lift points, and keep the load centred on the saddle so the jack lifts straight rather than trying to twist.

Perfect For

  • Track days and club racing — the jack goes in the trailer with the spares and comes out ready to work.
  • Home garages with sports cars, where entry clearance is the specification that matters and a heavy steel jack is a nuisance to store.
  • Mobile service and roadside work, where every tool has to be lifted in and out of a vehicle by one person.
  • Shops needing a second, light jack to sit beside the main one for quick corner lifts.

What's in the Box

A complete assembled jack with its handle. Ranger's data for this model does not list stands, chocks or adapters as included, so assume they are not. Do not put anything under a vehicle held only by this or any other jack — stands are a separate purchase and a non-negotiable one.

Certification, described rather than badged

Our data for this jack includes a manual, a specification sheet and a warranty document, and they are linked further down the page. It does not include an independent laboratory's safety listing. Those are different kinds of paperwork: a manufacturer's specification sheet states what the maker says the product does, while a third-party listing is an outside body testing and certifying it, and only the second satisfies the rules some insurers, fleet policies and workplace safety programmes impose on lifting equipment. If you are buying against such a requirement, check it with us first — we will get the answer from Ranger in writing instead of guessing.

Shipping and delivery

This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. A residential address carries a residential fee, which appears at checkout before payment. Collection is available at the Ranger pickup locations shown below if that is easier than a delivery window.

Check the carton at the kerb, not after the driver has gone. Any crushing, tearing or oil staining should be written on the paperwork before you sign, because a clean signature closes most carrier claims on the spot. A photograph and a same-day message to us is all we usually need to put it right.

Warranty and service

Ranger's warranty document for this product is on this page and it is the version that governs; we do not paraphrase it here because a paraphrase is what people end up arguing about later. The one practical rule: do not open the hydraulic assembly before you contact us. A sealed unit that has been taken apart is usually outside coverage, and a jack that drifts down under load, feels spongy or weeps oil is exactly the case the warranty exists for. Call, text or chat and we will take it from there.
