Description
Ranger Truck Cone Kit: two pieces that replace a shelf of adapters
Truck wheel service usually stalls on centring hardware. A shop ends up with a drawer of cones, each covering a narrow band of hub bores, and the technician spends longer choosing one than mounting the wheel. This kit takes a different approach: a single double-sided truck cone covering hub sizes from 4.75" to 6.75", plus one aluminum backing plate spacer. Two pieces, and between them the majority of medium and heavy-duty truck wheels on the road — OE and aftermarket alike.
That coverage is the whole value. A cone that fits both ways round is two cones in one hand, and a range that wide means the guesswork disappears from a job where a badly centred wheel is not a cosmetic problem but a balance reading you cannot trust.
⚠ Check your balancer's shaft diameter before ordering
We have to be straight about something on this listing. Two different shaft sizes are published for this kit in our data. The product description says it fits a 36 mm shaft. The feature list on the same page says it fits Ranger balancers with a 40 mm shaft. Those are different machines, and a cone bored for one will not seat properly on the other.
We are not going to guess which is right, average them, or quietly print the one that sounds more likely — a cone that does not seat squarely on the shaft produces a wheel that is centred wrongly and balanced to a number that means nothing. Before you order, tell us which Ranger balancer you have and we will confirm the correct kit with Ranger for your machine. Call, text or chat with us; it takes a minute and it is the difference between the right part and a return.
Why centring matters more on truck wheels than car wheels
Balancing is a measurement of where mass sits relative to the axis of rotation. If the wheel is not centred on that axis, the machine faithfully measures the error you introduced and tells you to add weight to correct it — and the wheel then runs out of balance on the vehicle, because the vehicle's hub centres it differently. On a passenger wheel that shows up as a mild vibration. On a medium or heavy-duty truck wheel, with far more mass at a larger radius, the same centring error becomes a much larger force, and it works on tyres, bearings and steering components for as long as the wheel is in service.
A double-sided cone earns its place here because it presents two different bore ranges without a change of part, and the range it covers — hubs from 4.75" up to 6.75" — is the working span for most truck wheels a general shop sees.
What the backing plate spacer does
The aluminum backing plate spacer sets the wheel's position along the shaft. Truck wheels are deep, and without a spacer the assembly can sit too close to the machine's face for the clamping hardware to pull square. Getting that position right is what lets the cone do its job — the two parts in this kit work as a pair, which is why they are supplied as one.
Aluminum, rather than steel, keeps a part that gets handled on every wheel light enough to move quickly and soft enough that it does not mark the wheel face it bears against.
Perfect For
- Tire shops adding truck work to an existing passenger-car balancer.
- Fleet and municipal garages servicing their own medium-duty vehicles in-house.
- Commercial tire service where OE and aftermarket wheels arrive in the same day and one adapter needs to cover both.
- Any shop tired of a drawer of single-purpose cones and the time lost to picking through it.
What's in the Box
- One large double-sided truck centring cone, covering hub sizes 4.75" – 6.75"
- One aluminum backing plate spacer
That is the complete set as described. It is an accessory kit, not a balancer, and it does not include a shaft, a wing nut or a press plate.

Certification and documentation
This is mounting hardware for a balancer rather than a lifting device, so no independent safety listing applies to it and our data does not claim one. Ranger publishes a specification sheet and a warranty document covering it, both linked on this page. If your workplace requires documented equipment compatibility before an accessory goes into service, the shaft question above is the one to settle first — ask us and we will get it in writing.
Shipping and delivery
Shipping is to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your address rather than quoted on this page. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, shown before payment.
Look the carton over before signing for it. Note any damage on the delivery paperwork at the time — once a clean signature is given, carriers treat the delivery as intact. Photograph anything that looks wrong and contact us the same day.
Warranty
Ranger's warranty document for this product is linked on this page and governs any claim; we would rather you read it than a summary. If a cone or spacer arrives damaged or does not seat correctly on the shaft it was supplied for, stop using it and contact us — do not attempt to machine, grind or otherwise modify a centring component to make it fit. A modified cone cannot be trusted to centre a wheel, and it will not be covered.
