Description

Schulz 7580HV30X-1 V-Series 7.5 HP 80-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor (230V 1-Phase)

Most two-stage cast-iron compressors assume you have three-phase power. A great many shops do not - independent garages in leased units, farm workshops, home fabricators with a decent panel - and the usual advice is to settle for a single-stage machine. This model exists to avoid that trade. It is a genuine two-stage, solid cast-iron, belt-driven pump running on ordinary 230V 1-Phase power.

The practical result is a compressor that will hold 175 PSI, run cool, and be repairable in ten years, in a building that has nothing more exotic than a single-phase 230V circuit.

What single-phase power asks of you

Single phase is convenient, but it is not free. For the same 7.5 HP output, a single-phase motor draws considerably more current than a three-phase one would and takes a bigger inrush when it starts. Two things follow.

First, this needs its own circuit, correctly sized, with the right breaker type - not a spur off something else. Second, voltage drop over a long run matters more than most people expect; a motor starting at the far end of an undersized cable is a motor being slowly damaged. Schulz publishes no amp figure and no breaker size, referring both to a certified electrician, and that is genuinely the right answer here rather than an evasion - the correct sizing depends on your service, your distance and your code. Establishing that your supply can carry the machine, and having the circuit installed properly, is the buyer's responsibility.

Will it fit?

The unit is 56" long, 23" wide and 45" tall, and it weighs 625 lbs. That is a compact horizontal package by two-stage standards. The 23" width will pass a standard doorway with room to spare, and at 45" tall it sits below eye level, out of the way of shelving and lighting. It still needs a level slab and enough surround to reach the belt guard, the sight glass and the tank drain.

Do not let the modest size mislead you about handling. 625 lbs is well beyond what a couple of people can walk across a floor; plan on a pallet jack at minimum, and a route without a step in it.

Two stages, and an after-cooler as standard

A two-stage pump compresses the air, cools it between cylinders, then compresses it again. Doing the work in two smaller bites is what allows a sustained 175 PSI without the cylinder temperatures that shorten the life of a single-stage machine. The V-cylinder layout leaves space between the cylinders and carries deep fins so the block sheds heat; the valves are Swedish steel, the main bearings are oversized, and the components are CNC machined.

An after-cooler is fitted on this model, which is not universal at this size. It cools the air before the tank, so a large share of the moisture drops out at the compressor into the tank drain rather than travelling down your hose to a gun. There is no air dryer and no electronic drain valve, so draining the receiver stays a manual job - and the outlet is a 1/2" connection, which is what you plumb from.

Lubrication is splash with a sight glass; there is no low-oil shutdown. Check the glass on a routine.

Perfect For

  • Single-bay and two-bay shops without three-phase service.
  • Serious home and hobby workshops with a 230V 1-Phase panel and room for a real compressor.
  • Farm and ranch workshops where the supply is what it is and will not be upgraded.
  • Leased units where the landlord will not bring in new service.

What is in the box

Only what the manufacturer states is included: the compressor and its 80-gallon horizontal receiver, a WEG electric motor, the V-Series solid cast-iron two-stage pump, an after-cooler, a magnetic starter, a pressure gauge, an oil sight glass, notched belts inside an enclosed guard, and powder-coated components. No air dryer, no electronic drain valve, no hose, no piping and no electrical work.

Certification, stated plainly

This compressor carries the ASME code stamp on its air receiver and safety valve. That is a pressure-vessel certification and a real one, but it is narrow by design: it addresses the tank and its relief device. It is not a third-party safety listing of the assembled electrical product, and it does not answer an electrical inspector's question about the installation. If an insurer or a workplace policy specifies a named listing for powered equipment, check that wording against the machine before purchase rather than assuming a pressure-vessel stamp satisfies it.

Shipping and delivery

Freight shipment to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for your destination. 625 lbs on a pallet still means a truck and still means you unload it: forklift, dock, or collect it yourself from the carrier's terminal, which is often the simplest option for a small shop. Delivery to a residential address is available and carries a residential fee added at checkout. Look the shipment over before you sign - shell, feet, guard, gauge - photograph anything doubtful, and write the damage onto the bill of lading while the driver is present. A signature on a clean receipt is very difficult to walk back. Schulz pickup is offered in Acworth, GA; reach us by phone, text or chat - 866-774-7743.

Warranty

Schulz covers the unit for 1 year and the pump for 2 years, consumer or commercial. If a fault appears, raise the claim before anything is taken apart - a dismantled pump usually ends the cover and always removes the evidence. Note the serial number when it arrives, store it with the invoice, and keep a short written record of oil changes and belt tension checks.
