TOPDON BT600 Battery Tester with Built-In Thermal Printer
The BT600 prints. That is the feature to buy it for, and it is not a convenience — it is a commercial argument. A tester without a printer produces a technician's opinion. A tester with one produces a dated slip of paper with the battery's measured condition on it, handed across the counter while the customer is still standing there. One of those sells a battery honestly and defuses an argument. The other invites the customer to go and get a second opinion.
The printer is built into the tool itself, not a separate Bluetooth unit to charge, pair and lose. All you need to keep in stock is printer paper.
Read this before you order: which tests cover 24 V
We would rather be clear about this up front than have it discovered in a truck bay. The BT600 is described for 12 V and 24 V systems, but the coverage is not uniform across all three of its tests. Cranking tests and charging tests support 12 V and 24 V lead-acid batteries. The battery test itself is performed on 12 V batteries.
For a shop working cars and light commercials that distinction never arises. For heavy-duty work it very much does, so read it against the vehicles you actually service, and ask us if you need it confirmed against a specific application before you commit.
A 3.5 inch colour screen, and why size matters here
The display is a 3.5 inch colour screen. On a battery tester that is a meaningful upgrade over the two-line monochrome panels this class of tool traditionally shipped with: a full result set — measured cranking capacity, state of health, system condition — can be shown together and in colour, so a pass, a marginal result and a failure are distinguishable at arm's length in a badly lit bay rather than needing to be scrolled and interpreted.
Conductivity testing: no load bank, no waiting
The BT600 uses conductivity testing rather than a traditional carbon-pile load test. The practical differences are worth understanding. Conductivity testing does not dump the battery's energy into a resistive load, so nothing gets hot, nothing needs a cool-down between tests, and a partially discharged battery can still be assessed rather than sent away to be charged first. It returns a result in seconds and it can be run back to back all day.
What it measures is the battery's actual cold cranking capability against its rating, plus state of health — not just a voltage, which is the number that misleads more people than any other in this trade. A battery sitting at a healthy voltage with no load on it can still be incapable of turning an engine on a cold morning, and voltage alone will never tell you so.
Three tests, three different questions
The tool runs battery tests, cranking tests and charging tests, and they exist because a no-start has three plausible causes and guessing between them is how the wrong part gets sold.
The battery test establishes whether the battery still meets its rating. The cranking test captures what happens at the instant of load — where a battery that passed a static check can still collapse, and where a starter drawing more than it should reveals itself. The charging test examines what the alternator and regulator put back afterwards, because a battery that keeps going flat is very often a charging fault in disguise. Run all three and the answer is established rather than inferred.
Safety built into the hardware
Reverse polarity protection is fitted. Connecting a tester backwards is a mistake made under a bonnet in poor light by tired people, and without protection it destroys the tool, the battery, or both. This one refuses instead of failing.
The clamps are large, reinforced copper, specified as smoke-free and spark-free. Spark suppression around a battery is not a comfort feature — a charging lead-acid battery vents hydrogen, and the ignition source that matters most is the one you create yourself while connecting to it. The tool is also protected against overheating and electrical shock.
Will it work on your vehicles?
Working voltage is DC 9 V to 30 V. The bottom of that range is the useful end: a tester that will not power up on a battery that is already flat is no use for diagnosing the battery that is already flat, and 9 V is well below where most no-start vehicles sit when they are wheeled in.
The cable is 1.8 m long, which reaches from a battery in a boot, behind a seat or under a floor to somewhere you can stand and read the screen. The tool measures 21.79 x 13.39 x 5.69 cm, so 5.69 cm deep, and weighs 550 g (19.4 oz) — a genuine one-hand tool with the printer inside it.
Published working temperature is -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F) and storage is -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F). Thermal printers and cold do not get along, so a tester that lives overnight in an unheated van in January is being stored below its published range; bringing it indoors is the owner's responsibility and will materially extend its life.

Approvals, stated plainly
Our product data records no independent third-party listing for the BT600, and we are not going to imply one. For a hand-held tester this is seldom a compliance question, but approved-equipment lists do appear in fleet contracts and franchised workshop agreements, and some insurers specify them. If you are working under one of those, check this model against the list before ordering and ask us what documentation ships with the tool.
Shipping
The BT600 travels as a parcel to the lower 48 states. Look the carton over before the driver leaves and record any damage on the delivery paperwork at that point — a clean signature is a poor starting position for a claim. When you unpack it, check the clamp jaws and the lead for damage and run a test print, because a printer problem is far easier to resolve in the first week than in the third month. Delivery to a residential address may carry an additional fee, which is calculated for you at checkout.
Warranty

File the claim before anyone opens the case, tries to clear the printer mechanism with a tool, or re-terminates the clamp leads. Disassembly is the most common reason a genuine claim is refused, and the fault will keep perfectly well until the paperwork is done.
