Triumph NTC-950-2 and NTB-1200: bead blast, two assist arms, one 110 Volt bay

This is not the biggest changer in the Triumph line and it is not trying to be. It is the one built for the tires that fight back. The NTC-950-2 carries bead blast and dual pneumatic assist arms, and that pairing is the whole argument for it: assist arms hold the sidewall down and the bead in the drop centre while the head works, and bead blast fires a burst of air into the sidewall to break a stuck bead or seat one that will not take. Low-profile tires, wide-profile tires and run-flats are the ones that need both, and they are the ones that eat operator time on a machine without them.

Paired with it is the NTB-1200 wheel balancer, which includes a wheel lift — a detail that stops mattering right up until a heavy commercial wheel has to go on the shaft. Both machines run on ordinary 110 Volt power, so the bay does not need a supply upgrade before either one is useful.

Bead blast, and why a shop pays for it

Seating a bead is the part of a tire change that turns a four-minute job into a twenty-minute one. A tubeless tire has to expand out to the rim flange far enough to hold air before it will inflate normally, and a stiff or cold tire refuses. Bead blast delivers a sudden high-volume shot of air into the sidewall gap, pushing the bead outward so the tire takes pressure.

The same system helps at the other end of the job, on a bead that has corroded to the rim over a winter of salted roads. A side-mounted breaker makes the initial break and the blast deals with the ones that will not give. If your work is mostly new tires on clean rims you can live without it; for fleet and seasonal changeover work it is the feature you notice daily.

The assist arms are the second operator

Two pneumatic assist arms mean the machine holds the tire where it needs to be held rather than the technician doing it by hand with a bar. On a low-profile tire the stiff sidewall wants to lift out of the drop centre, and if it does the bead is stretched over the rim flange instead of slipped past it — which is how rims get marked and beads get damaged. Arms that hold the sidewall down through the whole rotation keep that geometry right, at the end of a shift as well as the start.

The turntable is driven by a 1 1/2 HP motor and the bead breaker develops 5,500 lbs of force. That force figure is worth reading properly: it is not a speed rating, it is what is available to move a bead that has bonded itself to the rim, and it is the difference between a machine that persuades a stuck tire and one that stalls against it.

Will It Fit?

Two machines, two crates. Confirming the bay suits them is the buyer's responsibility, and these are the figures to check.

• Assembled footprint and height. The changer stands up at 56″ x 93″ x 80″ (1,422 mm x 2,362 mm x 2,032 mm). The middle figure is a height, so check it against low ceilings, mezzanine edges, door tracks and anything mounted overhead.
• Getting them in. The changer crates at 38″ x 65″ x 51″ (965 mm x 1,651 mm x 1,295 mm) and 900 lbs. The balancer crates at 47″ x 39″ x 50″ (1,194 mm x 990 mm x 1,270 mm) and 720 lbs. Measure the door and the route.
• Power. 110 Volt at both machines.
• Air. The changer is rated to a maximum of 120 PSI (8.3 Bar). Bead blast draws air in bursts, so a compressor with recovery — not just pressure — is what keeps the machine working through a busy morning.
• Layout. Put the balancer within rolling distance of the changer. A wheel that has to be carried across the shop between the two machines is the most common self-inflicted inefficiency in a tire bay.

What each machine will take

The changer clamps from the inside up to 28″ (711 mm) and from the outside up to 26″ (660 mm), takes a wheel up to 15″ (381 mm) wide, and handles a tire up to 43″ (1,092 mm) in overall diameter. That envelope covers passenger, light truck and van work comfortably; it is not sized for oversized agricultural or earthmoving wheels, so measure your largest wheel against those figures before you order.

The balancer takes a rim up to 28″ (711 mm), a rim width up to 20″ (508 mm), a tire up to 51″ (1,295 mm) in diameter and a wheel weighing up to 350 lbs. It spins on a 40 mm shaft and completes a cycle in 8 seconds, reading out in standard or metric units to a quoted accuracy of +/-1 Gram and +/-10 Gram. Data entry is manual rather than automatic, so rim dimensions are keyed in by the operator — which is exactly why the rim caliper supplied with it should stay on the machine.

Certification, stated plainly

We do not list an independent third-party safety listing for either machine here, and we are not going to imply one by writing an acronym the product data never claims. The difference is worth knowing: a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is the builder making a statement about its own product, while an independent listing means an outside body tested it and audits the factory. Neither replaces the other. Shipping and delivery

Both machines move by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout for your address, so the number you see is a current carrier rate rather than a stale estimate. Unloading is the receiver's responsibility and neither crate comes off a trailer by hand, so a forklift, a dock or a machine needs to be available. Where it is not, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually simpler. A residential delivery carries a residential fee, applied at checkout.

Inspect both crates before you sign. Look for crushed corners, punctures, broken banding and any sign a unit has been laid over, note it on the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signed bill of lading is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived undamaged.

One rule applies to any powered shop machine regardless of who built it: if something fails, do not take the motor, the bead breaker cylinder or the balancer drive apart before a claim has been opened. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call first.
