Description

Atlas WB41 Computerized Wheel Balancer

The WB41 is a motorized, computer-controlled spin balancer built for a bay that balances wheels every working day. What sets it apart from the entry machine in the same Atlas line is not its wheel range, which is the same, but its ergonomics: the readout sits up on a raised column at standing eye level rather than down on the housing, and the weight tray beside it is a deep, open shelf rather than a token recess. Neither is a headline specification. Both are what a technician notices on the fiftieth wheel of the day.

Designed to be repaired by your own people

The electrical side of this balancer is modular. The boards, the sensors and the display are individually replaceable items rather than a sealed assembly, and Atlas stocks the wear parts, so a fault is usually a component swap rather than a service call. The machine also helps you locate the fault: it self-diagnoses and puts an error code on the display, and it self-calibrates, so the slow drift that eventually makes an older balancer disagree with itself is corrected by the operator instead of by a visiting technician who bills travel time. If you have ever had a tire bay stand idle for a week waiting on a service appointment, that is the argument for this machine in one sentence.

The modes you will actually use

Dynamic mode handles ordinary passenger and light-truck assemblies, correcting in both planes. Static mode is there for narrow wheels and for cases where an inner-plane weight is not practical. Rapid optimization, marked OPT, earns its place when an assembly demands an unusually large correction - it works out how the tire should be re-indexed on the rim so that less weight is needed, which is both a better repair and a cheaper one. The spin starts when the hood is lowered and stops when it is raised, and the brake works on both an automatic and a foot-pedal circuit, so holding the wheel still to place a weight is a light touch rather than a wrestle. Atlas rates the machine as exceptionally stable at reading unbalance between the two planes, which in practice is the property you care about: repeat spins on the same wheel should agree with each other.

Will it fit your shop?

The WB41 runs on a standard 110 volt outlet. It needs no compressor, no three-phase supply, and - importantly in a leased building - no anchoring, so it is not bolted into the floor and can be repositioned if the bay layout changes. Leave working room on the wheel side so a heavy assembly can be lifted on and off without swinging it, and set it on flat, solid floor. Confirming the outlet, the clear floor space and the route from the delivery truck through your doorway is the customer's responsibility; measuring the doorway before delivery day is a great deal easier than measuring it after.

What it will and will not take

Rims from 10" to 32" in diameter and from 1 1/2" to 20" in width, mounted on a 40mm shaft, up to a 39" overall tire diameter, and up to a 150 lbs. wheel assembly. That last number is quoted loosely across this whole product category and it is worth being precise about: holding a heavy assembly on the shaft and reading it accurately while it spins are two different engineering problems, and this machine is rated to balance at that ceiling rather than merely to support it. Spin speed is 150 RPM, weight position resolves to 1.4 degrees, readings are accurate to 1 gram, and the display can be switched between grams and ounces and between millimeters and inches to suit the wheel in front of you.

All wheel dimensions are entered manually on this model - there is no automatic measuring arm - so width, diameter and offset are keyed in by the operator. That is a habit rather than an obstacle, but it does mean the result depends on somebody taking an honest measurement, which is worth knowing before a new hire is put on the console.

Perfect For

  • The dedicated tire shop - high wheel count, standing operators, and a real need for a machine that can be fixed in-house.
  • The general repair shop with one tire bay - no anchoring and a single standard outlet means it can go where there is space rather than where there is infrastructure.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops - self-calibration keeps a shared machine honest across shifts.
  • The serious home or club user - restorers and race teams who balance their own wheels and cannot justify a trip to town for every set.

What's in the Box

  • Plastic quick-release nut
  • Four centering cones
  • Wheel weight pliers
  • Measuring calipers

The Light Truck Adapter Kit - a larger cone plus a spacer, for bigger center bores and heavily offset wheels - is a separate purchase and is not included here. If you know you will be running light-truck wheels, ask us about it at the same time rather than after the first one will not mount.

The numbers that decide the purchase

Rim diameter 10" - 32" Covers the great majority of passenger and light-truck wheels now on the road.
Rim width 1 1/2" - 20" Wide enough for modern staggered fitments; check your widest wheel against it.
Max tire diameter 39" The overall assembly limit, not the rim limit - the number that stops a tall light-truck tire.
Max wheel weight 150 lbs. Rated to balance at this weight, not merely to carry it.
Shaft 40mm, power 110 volt Standard cone tooling, standard outlet, no anchoring.

Certification, stated honestly

The product data we hold for this balancer does not carry an independent North American safety listing, and we would rather tell you that than let it be assumed. For the overwhelming majority of shops it is simply not a factor - a balancer is not lifting equipment and is not usually what an inspector asks about. It becomes a factor when an insurer, a franchise agreement or a municipal supply contract specifies equipment carrying a recognised third-party listing. If that applies to you, get the requirement in writing from whoever is imposing it and speak to us before you order, and we will send you exactly what the manufacturer publishes.

Shipping and Delivery

The WB41 travels as freight within the lower 48 states, crated at 400 lbs. That means a forklift or a loading dock at your end, or you can take terminal pickup instead - and warehouse collection is available at the Atlas locations listed further down this page. Residential delivery can be arranged and carries a fee; freight is quoted live at checkout rather than printed here, because carrier pricing changes.

Inspect the crate before you sign for it. Count what arrived against the paperwork, look for crush damage, punctures and banding that has moved, and write whatever you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still standing there. A clean signature is the carrier's proof that nothing was wrong, and reopening that argument later is far harder than spending two minutes with a flashlight.

Warranty

The WB41 is covered by a 1 Year Parts Only Warranty. Parts only means a covered component is supplied to you and the labor to fit it is not included - on a machine whose whole design premise is that your own technician swaps the part, that is less of a limitation than it usually reads.

If something does fail, contact us before you take it apart. A partly stripped machine is very difficult to assess, and disassembly ahead of a claim is one of the most common reasons a good claim turns into an argument. Photograph the fault, note the error code the machine gave you, and leave it as it stands.
