Description

AMGO J6A: the bridge jack that runs on shop air instead of your arm

A rolling bridge jack sits across the runways of a four-post or scissor lift and picks the wheels up off the platform, which is what turns a storage or alignment lift into a bay where you can pull wheels, do brakes and rotate tyres. AMGO already sells that idea as the J6H. The J6A is the same jack with one component changed, and it happens to be the component you put your hands on every single time: the hand pump is gone, replaced by an air-over-hydraulic pump that runs off the shop air line you already have, at 0.8 MPa. The floating rolling design, the low profile and the adjustable arms all carry over unchanged.

It is rated at 6,000 lbs and is intended for four-post and scissor lifts below 12,000 lbs capacity. That pairing matters: this is not the jack for a heavy-duty platform, it is the jack sized for the four-post that most independent shops and serious home garages actually own.

Why a pump swap is worth paying for

A hand-pumped bridge jack is perfectly pleasant once. It is markedly less pleasant on the second axle of the third car before lunch, and that is where the real cost of a hand pump shows up — not in the catalogue, but in how often the jack gets used instead of the floor jack by the wall. Air-over-hydraulic means you position the jack, connect the air line and hold a control: lifting is repeatable, nobody is bent over a handle inside the wheel arch, and a two-minute job stops being one people avoid.

The trade is that the J6A needs compressed air where it is used. If your four-post sits in a corner with no air drop, budget for a line or a hose reel to reach it. That is a real prerequisite, not a footnote, and it is the one thing that would send a buyer back to the hand-pump version.

Will It Fit? Measure your runways first

For a bridge jack, fitment is not about ceiling height or your slab. It is about one measurement: the clear gap between the two runways of the lift it will sit on. Take it inside face to inside face, at the point where the jack will actually work, and check it in two or three places along the runway rather than trusting the brochure for your lift.

  • Width between runways. The extendable lower sliding assembly fits runway gaps from 33 11/16 inches to 52 13/16 inches. Outside that range the jack cannot bridge, and no adapter fixes it.
  • Arm pad reach. 33 3/16 inches to 53 3/8 inches, so the pads reach lift points across a normal spread of passenger cars and light trucks.
  • Clearance to get it under the car. The spec table lists a minimum height of 8 1/2 inches, and the stored minimum-height field for this product says 8.25 inches. Those two do not agree. If you are working to within a quarter of an inch on a low car, ask us to confirm against the current factory sheet before you order.
  • Lift range. 17 3/4 inches of lift on the pads alone, 21 3/4 inches with the supplied extension adapters fitted.
  • Overall width. 20 inches, so it stows between the runways or off to one side without eating the bay.
  • Air. 0.8 MPa at the jack.

Confirming all of the above against your own lift and your own compressor is the buyer's responsibility. We cannot see your equipment, and a jack that will not span your runways is not a warranty matter.

Two lock positions, chosen for where you work

The J6A uses a manual safety lock with two locking positions rather than a single fixed height. A wheel-off brake service and an exhaust or suspension inspection want the car at different heights, and one lock height forces one of those jobs to be done badly. As with any lift, hydraulic pressure raises the vehicle and mechanical steel holds it — seat the jack on a lock before anything goes underneath.

Arms and pads that adjust to the car, not the other way round

The arms are adjustable so the pads can be positioned onto the manufacturer's lift points rather than onto whatever happens to be above the jack. The supplied rubber pad assemblies spread the load on a pinch weld or subframe pad instead of concentrating it, and the 1.5 inch and 2.5 inch extension adapters let you reach a lift point sitting high relative to the sill, which is common on pickups and crossovers with plastic under-trays. A pad that only half meets its lift point is how sills get folded.

The guardrail gives you something to push against when repositioning the jack, and keeps the oil hose from being dragged across the platform edge — the usual way these hoses die.

Perfect For

  • The home garage with a four-post storage lift that wants to be able to do brakes and tyres without buying a second lift.
  • Independent shops running a four-post for alignment or storage that need wheels-free access on demand.
  • Anyone doing seasonal tyre changes in volume, where the difference between a hand pump and an air pump is measured in a whole afternoon.
  • Restoration and detailing work, where the car spends long periods raised and a low-profile jack under a low car is the only way in.

What's in the Box

Supplied as standard with the jack: the pneumatic hydraulic pump, 1.5 inch and 2.5 inch extension adapters, the durable rubber pad assemblies, the extendable lower sliding assembly and the guardrail. This listing is a combo; if you need the exact combination of items in the crate confirmed in writing before ordering, ask us and we will read it off the current packing list rather than guess.

Certification, stated plainly

Our record for this product does not state a third-party safety listing of any kind. That is missing information rather than a statement by the manufacturer either way, and saying so is more useful to you than an implication. In a private garage the question rarely arises. It does arise for some commercial insurance policies, for fleet and municipal operations, and for jurisdictions whose code names a specific listing. If that applies to you, ask us before ordering and we will put the question to the manufacturer in writing rather than answer it from a sales sheet.

Shipping and delivery

This ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, with freight quoted live at checkout against your own address, so the figure you see is a current carrier rate rather than a stale estimate. It arrives crated on a standard trailer and getting it to the ground is the receiver's job — a forklift, a machine, or a plan and some help. Where none of those exist, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually easier, because the terminal already has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select it.

Inspect before you sign: crushed corners, bent steel, shifted banding, any trace of oil. Write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the load arrived undamaged.

Warranty

AMGO publishes a written warranty covering this product and we hold the document rather than a summary — ask us for the current copy before ordering if the terms matter to your decision. One warning applies to every hydraulic lift whoever built it: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or a lock mechanism before a claim is raised. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the quickest way to lose cover that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call us first.
