AMGO OH-12: a 12,000 lb two-post lift you specify to your ceiling

Most two-post lifts arrive at one height and your building has to cope. The OH-12 is published at three overall heights — 174″, 186″ and 198″, described by AMGO as its low, medium and high settings. That is the single most useful thing about this lift, because ceiling height is the objection that kills more lift purchases than price does, and it is decided before the crate is opened rather than after.

The rest is a serious 12,000 lb service lift: four three-stage arms so one lift covers short and long wheelbases, a single-point safety release that unlocks both columns at once, automatic arm restraints, and a 2.0 HP, 220V single-phase power unit. It is aimed at the professional bay and at the home workshop that has decided to stop compromising.

Getting the height right, and the second height decision people miss

There are two independent height questions on this lift and they get confused constantly.

The first is the overall height of the structure — 174″, 186″ or 198″ — which has to physically fit under your roof, below the lights and clear of the garage-door track. Get that wrong and the lift does not go in at all.

The second is how high the vehicle actually goes. Maximum lifting height is 72 17/32″ on the pads, or 81 17/32″ with the extension adapters fitted, with corresponding lock heights of 70 9/16″ and 79 9/16″. A tall technician working under a tall truck wants the adapters; the same adapters add nine inches of vehicle to your ceiling calculation. Work the two out together, with the tallest vehicle you actually intend to lift, before you choose the column setting.

Four three-stage arms, and why they change what the lift will take

All four arms telescope in three stages rather than two. In practice that widens the range of vehicles a single lift will take without changing hardware: the arms retract far enough to reach the pinch welds on a short-wheelbase car and extend far enough to reach the frame points on a long-wheelbase truck. A shop that runs mixed work feels this every day, because the alternative is a lift that fits most of the fleet and gets awkward on the rest.

Automatic arm restraints lock the arms in position once the vehicle is set, so an arm cannot swing out from under a load while a technician is moving around it. The single-point safety releaser drops both columns' locks from one place, which sounds like a convenience and is really a safety feature — the alternative is walking around a raised vehicle releasing one column at a time.

Maintenance the lift does not ask you for

The carriages ride on self-lubricating UHMW polyethylene sliders and bronze bushings, and synchronisation is handled by aircraft-quality cable. The point of the self-lubricating materials is not the material name — it is that a greasing schedule which depends on someone remembering is a schedule that gets skipped, and worn slider blocks show up as a lift that judders and a carriage that wears its column. A detachable foot guard and tool tray keep the base of the column clear, which is the part of a two-post most likely to collect sockets and get kicked.

Will it fit?

These measurements are yours to check against your building before you order — that responsibility sits with the buyer, and it is where lift purchases go wrong.

• Overall height: 174″, 186″ or 198″ depending on the setting you specify. Measure to the lowest thing over the bay, not to the roof peak.
• Floor width: 150 3/4″ overall, with 123 1/2″ between the columns.
• Drive-through clearance: 109 3/4″ between the carriages. Check it against your widest vehicle.
• Lifted height: 72 17/32″ on the pads, 81 17/32″ with extension adapters.
• Clearance under the arms: 68″ at maximum rise.
• Minimum pad height: 4 1/2″, which is what decides whether a low car can be driven over the arms in the first place.
• Slab: a two-post lift transfers its entire load into two footprints of concrete. The installation manual states the thickness and strength required, and we will not print a figure here that we cannot verify for your building. An old, cracked, post-tensioned or unknown slab should be assessed before the lift ships, not after.
• Power: 2.0 HP, 220V / 60Hz, single phase. Confirm the supply and the connection with us before you order.

Certification, and what it does and does not cover

AMGO certifies the OH-12 to CE and states that it meets or exceeds European Standard EN-1493. Read that precisely. A CE marking is the manufacturer's own declaration of conformity against a set of European directives — the maker's declaration, against a European standard, for a European market. It is not the same document as an independent North American third-party lift safety listing and does not stand in for one. For most private buyers that never comes up; for a few it decides the purchase, because certain commercial insurance policies, fleet and municipal operations and local jurisdictions require a third-party listing by name. If yours does, tell us which before you order and we will get the manufacturer's answer in writing.

Shipping and delivery

The OH-12 ships as freight to the lower 48. The rate is fetched live from the carrier for your address when you check out, which is why no shipping figure appears in this description — a printed number goes stale and becomes an argument.

Plan the unload first. Between 2,317 and 2,346 lbs crated, this is a forklift delivery or a terminal collection, not something you and a friend take off a trailer. The carrier arrives with a standard deck and the receiver is responsible for getting the freight to the ground. Inspect with the driver still present: torn wrap, bent column ends, cut banding or a shifted load all go onto the bill of lading before you sign. Photographs taken at the tailgate are what a freight claim is decided on.

Warranty

AMGO covers this lift with five years on steel components, three years on hydraulic parts and two years on electrical components. One rule protects those terms: do not dismantle a power unit, cylinder, valve, hose or lock assembly before a claim has been opened. A part that has been taken apart is treated as a modified part, and a straightforward replacement becomes a negotiation. Photograph the fault, take the serial number off the column, and call us first.
