Description

LANAIR XT150 Waste Oil Heater Value Package 4

Please note: this package is configured for a wall-mount vent.

The most common mistake in specifying a waste oil heater is buying the biggest one the building could theoretically use. A waste oil heater does not run on a gas main; it runs on what your shop drains, and a burner you cannot keep fed is an expensive space heater with an empty tank. At 1.07 GPH the XT150 has the lowest fuel input in the XT range, which is precisely what makes it the unit a smaller shop can actually sustain through a season on its own collected oil.

Rated at up to 150,000 BTUH over roughly 3,500 square feet, it is the entry point of the range — but note what it does not give up. The cabinet is the same 24" x 40.25" x 48" body the XT200 uses, with the same axial fan and the same hanging weight of 413 lbs. You are buying a smaller burner in a full-size cabinet, not a scaled-down machine.

Matching the heater to your waste stream

Work it from your own numbers rather than from the square footage of the building. You already know roughly how much used oil, transmission fluid and other drainings your bays produce in a month, because somebody pays to have it removed. Set that against a consumption figure of 1.07 GPH while the burner is firing, and the answer tells you whether a heater will be self-supporting or whether you will end up buying fuel oil to top it up — which is a legitimate choice, but it should be a choice rather than a surprise in February.

The XT150 takes used crankcase oil up to 50 weight, conventional or synthetic, used automatic transmission fluid, and #1 and #2 fuel oil. That is broad enough that a general repair shop does not have to sort its waste stream to feed it.

Aiming the heat: louvers and an internal fan

This cabinet is not a ducted one — the spec sheet lists the ductable option as "call" rather than yes — and it solves the distribution problem differently. Adjustable locking louvers on the discharge let you point the air where the work is and lock the setting, which in a single open bay is both cheaper and more flexible than a duct run somebody has to modify with tin snips when the bay changes use. The fan is mounted inside the cabinet rather than hung off it, which keeps the running noise down in a room where people are already shouting over air tools.

The shell is fine-grained galvanized steel. That is a corrosion decision rather than a cosmetic one: these units hang in the roof space of buildings full of humidity, road salt carried in on vehicles and airborne solvent, and bare steel does not age well up there. Behind it sits a 12 gauge cold-rolled steel combustion chamber with a hinged clean-out door and a side access panel onto the collector box, because a waste oil burner produces ash and carbon and somebody has to get it out on a schedule.

Will It Fit?

  • Cabinet and structure. 24" x 40.25" x 48" (L x W x H) suspended, 413 lbs hanging weight. Get the mounting point assessed by someone qualified to sign it off.
  • Wall penetration. The kit in this package is the wall-mount configuration in 6" Class A pipe, specified for a 16' eave. A materially different eave height needs extra pipe.
  • Discharge geometry. With louvers rather than ducting, where you hang it determines what it heats. Choose the position for coverage, not for convenience of fixing.
  • Services. A dedicated 120V, 20 amp circuit, and compressed air at 2 CFM and 12-15 PSI available continuously whenever the burner runs.

Clearances to combustibles, the wall penetration detail, the structural assessment, fuel storage and any permit or inspection your jurisdiction requires remain the buyer's responsibility. We provide equipment and manufacturer documentation, not installation approval.

The vent kit supplied

Complete, and sized for a 16' eave:

Component Qty
Black pipe, 24" 4
Black tee pipe with cap 1
Elbow, 90° 1
Slip connector, 14" 1
Class A chimney pipe, 24" 1
Class A chimney pipe, 36" 1
Chimney cap 1
Finishing collar 1
Storm collar 1
Roof flashing, 0/12 to 6/12 pitch 1
Roof support bracket 1

Black pipe is single-wall connector for the run inside the heated space; the Class A sections are insulated pipe for passing through building fabric. Using one where the other belongs is a fire risk, not a saving. The capped tee is your cleaning access into the flue.

Perfect For

  • Two- and three-bay independent garages whose oil collection would not keep a larger burner fed.
  • Workshops up to around 3,500 square feet heated as one open space.
  • Leased premises where a wall penetration is permitted and a roof penetration is not.
  • First-time waste oil buyers who want the venting supplied rather than specified from scratch.

What's in the Box

  • Lanair XT150 waste oil heater
  • Wall-mount chimney kit as itemised above, sized for a 16' eave

Oil storage, pump and line runs are site-specific and not part of this listing. If you would like the parts list checked against your building before you commit, talk to us.

Approvals, and what they cover

Lanair states that all of its units are UL listed. That is a genuine credential and worth having. What it does not do is approve your installation: flue routing, clearances to combustible material, combustion air and fuel oil storage all fall under local mechanical and fire codes, and an inspector or an insurer may require things of the install that no product listing addresses. Treat the listing as the first piece of paper you will be asked for rather than the complete answer.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight only, within the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout for the address you enter. The consignment comes as several pieces — heater and vent components — so check the count against the delivery paperwork before the driver pulls away. Unloading is down to the receiver: have a forklift and an operator ready, or select terminal pickup and collect it yourself. Delivery to a residential address is available for an additional fee. Any damage or shortage needs to be written on the bill of lading before you sign, because a clean signature is extremely hard to walk back.

Warranty

The manufacturer's warranty applies; current terms and the claim route are set out on our warranty claims page. If something fails, register the claim before anything is dismantled. Taking a burner apart to look for the fault is the most common reason a perfectly good claim gets bogged down, because the assessor can no longer see the failure. Photograph it as found, note the hour meter, and call us first.
