Nualgi is a highly concentrated liquid selection of micro-nutrients on a nano silica base that feeds diatom algae. Diatom algae are a silica-based, naturally occurring algae that use the nutrients in a pond or lake, preventing cellulose-based green and blue-green algae from thriving. Diatoms are clear and not visible, and they are consumed by zooplankton, which is food for fish. Nualgi works well in combination with beneficial bacteria such as Microbe-Lift PL.

What is Nualgi Ponds?
Nualgi is a liquid additive containing 12 essential nutrients on a nano silica base to restore balance, improve water quality, and control nuisance algae in your pond. Nano silica is both a nutrient and a carrier that prevents the nutrients from reacting with each other.
Unlike traditional additives, Nualgi's nano-scale (measuring 5-100 nm) nutrients remain suspended for longer, disperse easily across the water column, and are therefore "bio-available" to marine organisms.
How Does Nualgi Ponds Work?
Upon application, the nano silica base carries 12 essential nutrients to diatom algae, which start to multiply. They consume nitrogen and phosphorus (from leftover fish food and waste), robbing nuisance algae of these nutrients. Diatoms photosynthesize earlier in the day, releasing O2 and consuming CO2, thus increasing dissolved oxygen levels. Higher oxygen levels help aerobic bacteria break down organic matter. Diatoms are also a preferred food for zooplankton, which grow exponentially, forming a complete food chain when consumed by fish.

When Should I Start Seeing the Effects of Using Nualgi Ponds?
For particularly bad cases of algae, results might be visible within hours. In extreme cases, the pond may seem to get worse before it gets better. Take a deep breath and monitor the pond for at least a week before seeking assistance.
How Do I Dose Nualgi Ponds in the Spring and Fall?
Follow the dosage instructions on the label, adjusting the frequency according to water temperature:
- 5°C - 10°C – Dose once a month
- 10°C - 15°C – Dose once every two weeks
- 15°C+ – Dose once a week as suggested by instructions
Is Nualgi Ponds Safe for Koi and Other Fish?

What is the Dosing Process and How Long Does it Take?

I Am Using Nualgi and Beneficial Bacteria, but My Water Remains Green?
Check nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate levels. If they're high, you may need more bacteria. Contact us through our troubleshooting form for assistance.
My Pond Cleared Up, But the Water Turned Green Again?
Increase the Nualgi dose by half for two weeks. If conditions improve, revert to the recommended dose. Some ponds may require adjustments to the standard dose.
I Added Nualgi and Now I Have Foam on My Pond?
Foam occurs when algae die off. Remove it with a net, and keep the filter clear to prevent debris buildup.
My Water Turned Brown After Using Nualgi?
Brown water can be caused by over-dosing or algae cell die-off. To identify the cause, take a water sample and let it settle. If debris forms at the bottom, it's a filtration issue. Otherwise, reduce the Nualgi dose.
Water Column is Clear, but String Algae Remains?
Address string algae with a combination of Nualgi and beneficial bacteria. It can take up to 16 weeks for string algae to disappear completely.
Can High Chlorine/Chloramine Levels in Source Water Affect Water Clarity?
Yes, chlorine and chloramine can impede the nitrification process, slowing down the effects of Nualgi and beneficial bacteria. If you're experiencing poor water clarity despite treatment, it may be due to high chlorine/chloramine levels in your source water. In this case, treat your pond with an efficient dechlorinator (we recommend Novaqua). Additionally, after heavy rainfall, consider dosing with dechlorinator as a precaution. Always follow the manufacturer's recommended dosage.
