Description

Quincy 4103D12HCB23M QT MAX 10 HP 120-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor, 230V 3-Phase

Storage capacity is easy to shop for. Where the capacity has to physically go is the part that stops installations. This machine answers that: it holds 120 gallons in a horizontal receiver, which puts the whole package at 55" overall height instead of standing seven feet in the air. If your compressor room has a duct run, a mezzanine floor, a mechanical platform or simply a low ceiling, that difference decides whether the machine goes in at all.

What sits on top of the tank is Quincy’s QT MAX package: a splash-lubricated cast-iron pump with aluminium heads, driven by belt from a 1,750 RPM industrial motor, with a finned intercooler between the compression stages and an air-cooled aftercooler built into the unit. The pump is rated beyond 50,000 hours. This part number is wound for 230V, 3-phase supply.

Where a horizontal package goes that a vertical one will not

A vertical 120-gallon receiver is essentially a column. It is efficient with floor area and useless if you do not have the headroom, and it needs clear space above it to pull the pump for service. A horizontal receiver spreads the same volume along the floor instead: 78" of length, 28" of width, and a top surface at 55".

In practice it lives along a wall, behind a bench, under a stair, or on a mezzanine with a low deck-to-deck height. It also puts the pump and the motor at working height rather than overhead, so belt changes and oil checks are a job you can do standing up. Measure the doorway and the route as well as the room — 78" of rigid crate has to turn the corners between the dock and the final position.

The cooling package, and why the tank stays dry

Two-stage compression is done in two steps with cooling in between. The first cylinder raises the air to an intermediate pressure and hands it to the high-efficiency finned intercooler, which strips the heat of compression back out before the second cylinder takes it to working pressure. Rated maximum is 175 PSI.

Downstream of the pump, the built-in air-cooled aftercooler drops the discharge temperature again, this time with a fan whose speed is driven by temperature rather than running flat out all day. Cooling the air before it enters the receiver is what makes the moisture condense in the tank, where a drain can deal with it, instead of in the pipework, where it cannot. The automatic electronic tank drain then clears that condensate on a cycle, which is also the practical defence against a receiver rusting from the inside.

Will It Fit?

  • Length: 78". This is the dimension that governs the installation and the delivery route.
  • Width: 28", plus whatever clearance you want for belt guard access on the pump side.
  • Height: 55", which is the reason this model exists alongside the vertical ones.
  • Weight: 850 lbs dry. Add oil and the working water charge on top of that when you think about the slab.
  • Supply: 230V, 3-phase. Single-phase service will not run it, and the voltage is set by the motor and starter fitted at the factory, not by a link change on site.
  • Protection: the recommended breaker for this model is one for your electrician to size against the run and the local code. We do not publish a figure, because the honest answer depends on your installation.
  • Connection: 1" tank outlet. Run the shop header away from the machine with a fall, and take drops off the top of the header.

The site is yours to prepare. Verifying 230V 3-phase availability at the machine location, the slab condition, the ventilation of the compressor room, and the permitting and inspection of the electrical work are the buyer’s responsibility. Ask us the questions before the freight is booked, not after.

Built to be serviced, not just to run

The pump is splash-lubricated cast iron with aluminium heads — cast iron for the wear surfaces and the mass to absorb heat, aluminium up top where shedding heat matters more than hardness. An oil sight glass makes the level check visual. A low oil cut-off switch shuts the machine down if the level drops far enough to endanger the bearings, and an extra-capacity oil reserve lengthens the interval between checks. The magnetic starter carries thermal overload protection for the motor. None of that is exotic; it is simply the set of features that decides whether a compressor is still running in year eight.

Perfect For

  • Shops with a headroom problem — low ceilings, mezzanine decks, or a compressor room under an office floor.
  • Multi-bay automotive service running impacts, lifts and air tools continuously through a working day.
  • Body and paint operations, where the aftercooler and the automatic drain do real work on air quality.
  • Buildings already on 230V 3-phase, the most common three-phase service in independent commercial premises.

What is in the Box

You receive the assembled compressor: the horizontal 120-gallon receiver, the two-stage cast-iron pump, the 10 HP industrial motor, the magnetic starter, the high-efficiency finned intercooler, the built-in air-cooled aftercooler with its temperature-driven variable-speed fan, the automatic electronic tank drain and the low oil cut-off switch. An air dryer is not part of this package. Neither is the EWK-4 Maintenance Kit, which has to be bought alongside the compressor if you want the extended warranty term.

We have deliberately left the delivered air volume and the running current off this table. Both figures live in our catalogue without a unit attached to them, and a specification we cannot state with its unit is one we will read off the manufacturer’s data sheet for you instead of publishing.

Certification, stated plainly

The receiver is manufactured to the North American pressure-vessel code and the machine carries a CSA mark. Our records also point at a North American third-party electrical listing, but the entry is ambiguous enough that we will not print the mark. That is deliberate: a badge we got wrong is worse than none. If a specific listing is a condition of your insurance or your local electrical code, contact us and we will confirm what is on the data plate before you commit.

One thing to confirm with us

There is a conflict inside our own product data on this model that you should know about. The feature list and the detailed specification block both say an automatic electronic tank drain is fitted; a separate summary field in our catalogue says it is not. We have shown you both rather than quietly picking one. If the electronic drain matters to your installation, ask us to verify it against the as-shipped configuration first.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states. This is a crated industrial machine on a skid, so plan the unload before it arrives: a forklift with the reach to take the crate off a trailer bed, or a dock at trailer height. Carriers deliver to the truck, not into the building. Terminal pickup is offered and many shops prefer it, because you control the equipment and the timing at both ends.

A delivery to a residential address is billed with a residential fee, so tell us up front if the address is a house or an outbuilding rather than a commercial receiving point.

Check the freight while the driver is still there. Look at the skid, the shrink wrap and the sheet metal, take photographs, and write any damage on the bill of lading before you sign it. Once a clean bill of lading is signed the carrier has your agreement that nothing arrived broken.

Warranty

Coverage is a 1-year factory warranty from Quincy, applied equally to consumer and commercial use. Buying the EWK-4 Maintenance Kit at the same time as the compressor extends that to the 3-year "No Bull" warranty, which adds on-site service and labour to the parts cover. Registration of the unit with the manufacturer is required for the extension to stand.

House rule on any warranty event, and it is the one that most often decides a claim: call us before anything is dismantled. Once a pump has been opened, nobody can establish what failed first, and an opened unit is the most common reason a valid claim gets turned down.
