Quincy 453DS80HCB46 QT Pro — 80-Gallon Two-Stage, Horizontal Tank, 460 Volt Three-Phase

The 460 Volt version exists for buildings, not for compressors. At the same 5 HP, a higher supply voltage means proportionally lower current, and lower current is what makes a long cable run across a factory floor or out to a back workshop affordable rather than eye-watering. If your building already distributes at 460 Volt three-phase, this is the model that belongs on it — and if it does not, this is emphatically not the one to order.

That is worth stating bluntly because the QT Pro 80-gallon package is sold in several supply voltages that look identical in a photograph. The motor is wound for one of them. It cannot be reconfigured on site.

Two codes, one machine

If you are ordering parts against a code, or matching a machine already installed, ask us to confirm which code your supplier expects before you buy — it is a two-minute question that avoids a wrong box.

The electrical case, honestly

Our specification data does record an amp draw for each voltage in this family, and the 460 Volt build is comfortably the lowest of them. What we are not going to do is print those figures as though they replace a load calculation. Conductor size, breaker size and starter sizing all depend on the length of your run, the ambient conditions in the room and your local code, and none of that is in a product listing.

So give your electrician the load as it is genuinely defined — 5 HP, 460 Volt, 3-Phase — and let them size the circuit for your building. If they want the manufacturer's current figure for a panel schedule, ask us and we will send it in writing.

One thing you do not have to specify: the starter. A magnetic starter with thermal overload is factory-mounted on this machine, so the contactor and the motor protection arrive fitted rather than as a separate item to buy, mount and wire.

A tank that lies down

The horizontal receiver takes the overall height to about 47" and stretches the footprint to roughly 70" long by 23" wide. In a building with height to spare that sounds like a poor trade; in a bay with a mezzanine, low steelwork or a roller-door track it is the only trade available. It also brings the drain, the sight glass and the belt guard down to somewhere you can actually reach without a ladder.

Whichever way round the tank sits, the floor under it has to be flat, solid and level. 660 lbs resting on four feet will find every irregularity in a slab, and a machine that rocks slowly destroys its own mounting and hums through the structure. That preparation is the buyer's responsibility, and it costs nothing but care.

The pump, and why the intercooler earns its place

The QT-5 industrial pump is cast iron with an aluminium head, belt-driven and splash-lubricated, and it compresses in two stages with a high-efficiency finned intercooler between them. Cooling the charge mid-cycle is what makes 175 PSI an ordinary working pressure instead of a strained ceiling, and it is also what keeps carbon from baking into the head — the process that ends valve life early on single-stage machines run hard.

Published output is 17.2 CFM at 175 PSI, and the two halves of that belong together. Quincy also states oil carryover below 5 PPM, which is the specification to look at if the line will ever feed finish work: very little oil mist leaves the machine with the air.

Two more build choices that show up years later rather than on day one. The connecting rods are two-piece, so there are fewer moving parts and a simpler service job. The oil reservoir is oversized, which is a cooling decision — a bigger volume of oil runs cooler and stays in grade under continuous duty. Both go with an ODP slow-speed motor, which buys durability the dull way, by simply turning the pump more slowly.

Automatic where it counts

Condensate draining is automatic on this unit. That sounds minor and is not: water in the receiver is the single most common way a compressor tank is destroyed, and the only thing standing between a manual drain and a rusted vessel is somebody remembering. Low-oil shutdown covers the other end, stopping the pump before a lubrication fault turns into a rebuild.

This product's data claims a coded pressure vessel built to the American standard with relief valves fitted, and UL and CSA recognition on the electrical components. Those are genuine claims and they are the ones we will repeat.

They are not, however, a third-party safety listing of the complete machine as installed. That is a separate document covering the assembled equipment rather than its tank or its parts, and it is the one some insurers, fleet standards and local inspectors ask for on hard-wired plant. We would rather say so than let a tank stamp read as something broader. If your installation or your insurer requires that listing, ask us before you place the order.

Shipping and receiving

Shipped as palletised freight throughout the lower 48 states. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout.

Sort out unloading before the order goes in. The driver's obligation ends at the back of the truck, so you want a dock, a forklift or a pallet jack on firm level ground ready. Where none of that is available, terminal pickup lets you collect from the carrier with equipment of your choosing. Delivery to a home address is treated as residential and carries a residential fee.

Inspect on arrival, before signing. Damage noted on the bill of lading in the driver's presence is claimable; damage found afterwards, on a clean signature, generally is not. Photograph the pallet and the crate and write down anything that looks wrong.

Warranty

The machine carries a 1-Year factory warranty which extends to Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" warranty. The extension carries Quincy's own conditions and is not automatic, so read the warranty handbook linked on this page and confirm what this model asks of you before you rely on the longer term.
