Description

Ranger Clip-On Steel Wheel Weights, Coated, 3 Oz

Ranger’s coated clip-on range runs from .25 oz up to 3 oz, and this box is the top of it. That is the entire reason to stock it: when a wheel calls for a large correction, one 3 oz clip does the job that would otherwise take a stack of smaller weights spread along the flange. There are 25 in the box, all of the same value, so a technician reaching for a heavy correction finds it immediately.

They are coated steel, clipped rather than bonded, and intended for wheels with a flange to grip.

Why the largest step earns its shelf space

A big imbalance corrected with small weights becomes a row of clips. That is worse than it sounds for three reasons. It takes longer to fit. It spreads the correcting mass along an arc of the flange rather than concentrating it where the machine actually asked for it, which leaves a residual the balancer then has to be argued with about. And every additional clip is another independent opportunity for one to be poorly seated.

A single heavier weight solves all three at once. The correction goes exactly where it was called for, it goes on in one action, and there is one clip to check rather than four. On heavy steel wheels, light-truck rims and anything that has been repaired or has a heavy tyre, the largest step in a range is the one that comes out of the box most often.

Placement, and why it matters more at this weight

The heavier the correction, the more the accuracy of its position matters. A weight placed a little off the angular position the balancer called for introduces an error proportional to its mass — so a small weight fitted approximately is a small problem, and a large weight fitted approximately is a noticeable one. With a 3 oz correction, take the position seriously: mark it, fit to the mark, and re-spin to confirm rather than assuming.

If the machine is calling for a correction bigger than the range can supply in one piece, that is worth pausing on rather than solving with weights. A very large imbalance can mean a tyre mounted badly relative to the rim, a bent wheel, or debris inside the tyre. Breaking the bead and re-indexing the tyre on the rim will often cut the required correction dramatically. Weights are for the residual, not for a mechanical problem.

Coated, not bare

The coating on these weights is not decoration. Inside a wheel is a wet, salted, brake-dust-filled environment, and bare steel there rusts and then marks the rim around it. The coating also gives the clip a finished surface to bear against, which matters when the weight is pushed onto a painted flange and again when it is levered off during the next balance.

Because they are steel, the clips hold their form through fitting and removal instead of deforming. A weight taken off during a re-balance can usually go back on rather than into the bin.

Clip-on or stick-on?

Clip-ons need a flange worth gripping — a plain steel wheel, or an alloy with an exposed rim lip. They are quick, they need no surface preparation, no solvent and no cure time, and they can be removed and repositioned immediately.

Where the wheel has no usable flange, or where a visible clip is unacceptable on a cosmetic wheel, a segmented adhesive tape weight on the inner barrel is the right choice instead. Most busy shops keep both formats, because the wheel decides which one is appropriate, not the shop’s preference.

Perfect For

  • Tyre bays handling light trucks and heavy steel wheels, where large corrections are routine rather than exceptional.
  • Shops already stocking the smaller steps in the coated clip-on range and needing the top end to complete it.
  • Fleet workshops, where wheels come in heavier and less pristine than a dealership’s.
  • Mobile fitters who cannot go back to the shop for a size they did not bring.

What you receive

A single box of coated steel clip-on wheel weights at 3 oz each, twenty-five to the box, with a package weight of 4.7 lbs. There is no fitting tool, no clip hammer and no mixed selection of other sizes included; this is one value, boxed. Contact us if you want to put together a spread of sizes across the range.

Certification, stated plainly

We hold no independent laboratory listing or third-party approval mark for this product, and we will not imply that one exists. For a wheel-balancing consumable that is entirely normal, and it only matters where a contract or purchasing specification demands documented approval on fitted parts — as some fleet and municipal operations do. If that is your position, ask us before ordering and we will go back to the manufacturer for the paperwork rather than guess.

Shipping and delivery

Delivery is available throughout the contiguous United States. We price it at checkout using live carrier rates instead of quoting a figure here, since carrier pricing changes and printed numbers go stale. Collection is an option too — the pickup points for this brand are listed in the Pick Up and Delivery section of this page.

Where a consignment moves by freight rather than parcel, arrange for someone to receive it and for a way to unload, or take terminal collection. Residential delivery is charged as a separate service and quoted at checkout. Inspect before signing and write any damage onto the delivery receipt while the driver is present; a clean signed receipt is what makes a subsequent claim so difficult.

Warranty

Cover falls under Ranger’s single product-line warranty document rather than a term attached to this box, and we keep the current version. No period is printed here because the fact sheet does not state one, and we are not prepared to invent a warranty length to make the page look complete. Request the document and we will send it before you order.

Should a box arrive damaged or short, keep it and the packaging and get in touch first. Do not re-form or file a clip to make it fit a flange it was not cut for — a modified weight cannot be assessed, and it is not something to have spinning at speed.
