Description
Ranger Truck Adapter Package - Fits RL-8500 and RL-8500XLT
The part that does the work here is the arbor. This package is built around an upgraded 1-7/8" truck arbor, and everything else in the box exists to hang off it. A brake lathe's arbor is the shaft the rotor or drum is mounted and spun on, and its diameter sets the ceiling on how much mass the machine can hold steady while a cutting tool is loaded against it. Fitting the heavier arbor is what takes an RL-8500 from a passenger-car lathe to one that will turn truck rotors and drums through 1-ton trucks.
The cones, spacers and adapters are the other half of the answer. A truck hub is not simply a bigger car hub — hubless rotors, double-taper bearings and unusual pilot diameters all appear once you leave passenger work, and each needs a specific piece of tooling to run true. This package covers that ground in one purchase rather than a series of them.
Why centering matters more on a truck rotor
Everything a brake lathe does depends on the rotor spinning about the same axis it will spin about on the vehicle. If it is centered even slightly off, the lathe cuts a surface that is true to the arbor and false to the hub — and the customer comes back with a pedal pulsation you just machined into the part. That risk scales with the size and weight of the rotor, which is exactly why a truck job needs its own centering hardware rather than the closest passenger cone that will go on.
Thirteen centering cones across the package is not padding. It is what covers the pilot diameters found on light and medium truck hubs without forcing anything. The double taper adapters handle the bearing arrangements a plain cone cannot locate properly, and the hubless adapters cover rotors that have no integral hub to centre on at all.
What's in the Box
- 1 truck arbor
- 1 arbor nut
- 2 spacers
- 3 hubless adapters
- 2 double taper adapters
- 13 centering cones
- 1 spring
That is the complete list from the manufacturer's own contents sheet. We have not added anything to it, and if a piece of tooling you need is not named above, ask us rather than assuming it is included.
Will It Fit?
This package is specified for the Ranger RL-8500 and the RL-8500XLT brake lathes. It is not a universal kit, and it will not adapt a lathe from another manufacturer — an arbor is machine-specific hardware. If you own an RL-8500 or an RL-8500XLT, this is the matching set. If you own something else, or you are not certain which variant you have, send us the serial plate details and we will check before you order rather than after.
The package itself is heavy for a box of tooling: 242 lbs. (109 kg) shipping weight in a crate measuring 30" x 30" x 17". Plan for it to arrive as freight rather than as a parcel on a doorstep.
Perfect For
- Shops already running an RL-8500 or RL-8500XLT that are turning away truck brake work.
- Fleet maintenance operations servicing light and medium trucks in-house instead of sending rotors out.
- General repair shops whose customer mix has drifted toward pickups and vans.
- Tire and brake specialists wanting to quote truck jobs without a second machine on the floor.
A note on ratings
This is an accessory package, not a machine. It extends the range of hardware your lathe can hold; it does not change the lathe's own published capacities, and it should not be treated as raising them. Our record for this package claims no third-party safety listing and we are not going to imply one — for brake lathe tooling that is ordinary and not a purchasing factor, but if a facility policy requires listed equipment across the board, ask us before ordering and we will tell you what the manufacturer supplies.
Shipping and delivery
This package moves as freight within the lower 48 states at 242 lbs. (109 kg) crated. The carrier's driver brings it to the back of the truck and no further, so arrange a forklift, a dock or enough hands — or nominate the carrier's terminal and collect it. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout. Inspect the crate before signing: note any damage on the delivery receipt in writing, photograph it while the driver is there, and tell us the same day.
Warranty
Ranger's warranty terms for this product are set out in the warranty document linked on this page, and that document governs. Tooling claims are usually straightforward, but the same rule applies as with any machine: talk to us before modifying or machining any part of the set, because an altered adapter is no longer the part the manufacturer supplied.
