Description

TOPDON ArtiDiag500 S Diagnostic Scanner

The single most useful number on the ArtiDiag500 S specification sheet is its cable: 1,200 mm, or 47.24". That is close to four feet of lead, which is the difference between crouching in a footwell with a tool balanced on your knee and sitting in the driver's seat with the scanner in your hand while you crank the engine, work the pedals and watch live data at the same time. Plenty of scanners in this price bracket ship with a lead barely long enough to reach the seat.

Beyond that, this is a mid-level scan tool for the four systems that account for most of the work: engine, transmission, airbag and ABS, across more than 90 vehicle brands, with five maintenance resets on top of straight fault-code work.

Five resets, and why these five

The ArtiDiag500 S performs oil service reset, battery management system reset, ABS bleeding, electronic throttle system reset and diesel particulate filter reset. That is not an arbitrary list. Oil reset closes out the most common service job on the board. BMS reset is the one that stops a new battery being charged as though it were the old, tired one it replaced. ABS bleeding cycles the pump so air actually leaves the modulator, which manual bleeding on a modern car cannot do. Throttle reset is what stops the idle hunting after a body clean or a replacement. And DPF reset covers the diesel job that otherwise goes to a specialist.

Together they cover the jobs a general workshop meets weekly. What they do not cover is programming, key coding or module replacement — this is a diagnostic and service tool, not a programming platform, and it is better to know that before you order than after.

Four-system diagnostics and the health report

A full scan reads the four main control systems and returns a health report. From that screen a single tap clears codes across the board, which sounds like a convenience feature and is really a time feature: on a car with a cascade of stored faults, clearing individually and rescanning is where the afternoon goes.

The tool reads and clears fault codes, runs the essential tests and generates diagnostic reports automatically, which can be printed. A printed report attached to the invoice is the thing that turns "we found a fault" into a documented job, and it is worth more at the counter than any feature on the box.

Four live data streams at once

The ArtiDiag500 S records and displays up to four data streams simultaneously. Four is the number that makes a comparison possible rather than a guess: coolant temperature against fuel trim against RPM against a sensor output, on one screen, changing together. One stream at a time tells you what a value is. Four tell you what is causing it.

AutoVIN, and the minute it saves every time

AutoVIN reads the vehicle's identity from the vehicle itself and loads the matching software, instead of asking you to pick a make, then a model, then a year, then an engine from four menus and hope. On a single car that is a minute. Across a working week on a busy ramp it is a real number of hours, and it removes the commonest cause of a confusing scan — the tool being told it is looking at a slightly different car.

Will it work in your bay?

Operating voltage is 9–18 V, taken from the vehicle. The lower end of that window matters more than the upper: system voltage sags hard during cranking, and a tool that drops out at that moment is useless for exactly the fault you are chasing. There is also an internal 1500 mAh, 3.7 V battery, so the unit powers up on the bench for updates and report review without a car attached.

The body measures 221 x 133 x 37 mm — 37 mm (1.46") thick — and weighs 630 g. The shipping carton is 286 x 220 x 80 mm, so 80 mm (3.15") deep, which is worth knowing if you are planning drawer or case storage. Published operating temperature is 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) and storage is -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F): an unheated bay in a hard winter sits below the working range, and a closed truck cab in summer sits above the storage range. Where the tool lives between jobs is the customer's call.

Screen and processor

The display is a 5" LCD at 480 x 854, driven by a four-core 1.3 GHz processor running Android 6.0, with 1/2G of RAM and 16/32G of storage. The processor and memory are what decide whether a full four-system scan feels responsive or leaves you waiting, and they are the parts you cannot upgrade later.

Updates and support

Software upgrades are free for the life of the tool, applied through a one-tap update. A diagnostic scanner that stops receiving vehicle coverage is a scanner with an expiry date, so a lifetime update policy is a genuine part of what you are buying rather than a marketing line. The built-in feedback function sends a question and the relevant capture straight to TOPDON's technical support from the tool, which is a far better way to describe a problem than a phone call from memory.

Perfect for

  • General repair shops that need four-system coverage and the everyday resets without paying for a programming platform.
  • Mobile technicians who benefit from the long lead and a tool that runs on its own battery between calls.
  • Used-car dealers and buyers running a pre-purchase health report in a few minutes on the forecourt.
  • Well-equipped home shops where the alternative is a code reader that returns a number and no context.

What's in the box

Our product information covers the scanner and its 1,200 mm (47.24") diagnostic lead. It does not itemise the rest of the carton, and we are not going to guess at one. If a particular adapter or accessory matters to you, ask us and we will confirm before you order.

Approvals, stated plainly

Our data for the ArtiDiag500 S records no independent third-party listing, and we will not imply one. For a plug-in diagnostic tool that usually matters less than it does for shop electrical equipment, but some fleet contracts and franchise workshop agreements do specify approved equipment lists. If yours does, check the requirement against this tool before ordering and ask us what documentation ships with it.

Shipping

The scanner travels as a parcel to the lower 48 states. Give the carton a look before the driver goes, and if a corner is crushed or the box rattles, write it on the delivery paperwork there and then; signing clean and calling later is a much weaker position. Unbox on arrival and confirm the diagnostic lead and connector are undamaged, since a bent pin is obvious on day one and arguable a month in. A residential delivery may carry an additional fee, calculated at checkout.

Warranty

TOPDON's warranty terms apply, and our warranty claims page explains how to open a claim through us. If the tool develops a fault, file the claim before anyone opens the case or cuts into the lead. Disassembly voids more warranty claims than any actual defect does, and the problem will keep until the paperwork is done.
