Friction hinges are designed to stay in any open position by means of friction, and these hinges feature a simple friction screw, which allows the friction to be adjusted, to make opening of the window easier, and accidental closing of the window in strong winds less likely.

DID YOU KNOW? Standard friction hinges allow opening to just 60°, which may not provide adequate space for escape in an emergency situation. However, this 12” hinge allows opening to 80° and the 16” hinge up to 90°.
Egress hinges like these are typically required for bedrooms on the first floor of a house. Building regulations approved document B1 requires that the casement should provide a minimum clear opening of 450mm x 734mm at a maximum sill height of 1.1m, with an unobstructed area that is at least 0.33m².
